  1. Sack numbers are stupid. Let’s say a guy gets 16 sacks in a year. Guaranteed pro bowl, right? But really that’s one sack a game. Does that really change the course of game? Probably not. What matters, what really makes a difference through the whole game, is qb pressures. Hughes is too 5 in that regard. He is easily a top 10 DE in the league, and it’s not rationally debatable.
  2. 1. It is the offensive line, a group not as amenable to statistical analysis as others. But this seems like a non-issue. Are you actually contending that the offensive line last year was even close to 2017? I didn't think anyone actually thought this... 2. Cordy Glenn was out after the fifth game. With Cordy Glenn in the offense averaged 271 yards/game. With Cordy Glenn out, the offense averaged 316 yards/game. So no, the offense moved the ball better without Glenn. Your Incognito point is absolutely non-sensical. I don't know how anyone argues he wasn't on the way to being a basket case. I honestly had assumed everyone understood it was a large part of why they asked for his contract to be cut. 3. You act like the team was expecting Wood to retire. Had he not retired, we would have been all set. No one saw it coming. The fact that you glaze over this piece is every reason your history is so revisionist. 4. There were problems with other parts of the line, but its the Center that leads the group and calls protections. It starts with him. The fact that the line not only played poorly, but suffered from constant miscommunications is an illustration that the problem started a the Center position.
  3. This is a really good example of revising the history to fit your argument. 1. Yes, 2017 was not as good as previous years, but it was miles better than last year. 2. Glenn was already a non-factor by 2017 (this is a really telling example of the revisionism). The only real loss, aside from Wood, was Incognito. But even he was obviously on the verge of a mental breakdown and really getting up there in age. The much bigger loss was clearly Wood. Not to mention the fact that aside from LT, Center is the most important position on the line. 3. I'm not sure what the Wawrow comment has to do with anything. 4. PFF has no idea how to judge the offensive line. I thought that was pretty well established after E. Wood and @AngryNFLScout vet called them out this year.
  4. I don't know, but neither does her. He injured the same foot, but that doesn't mean he injured the same broken bone. And even if he did, we have no idea if its an expected re-break or some freak accident. We just don't know. But to start throwing stones like that is just ignorant.
  5. Do you know if the break is in the same place? Are the breaks related? Did private staff examine him? Or did an outside orthopedic specialist? And if so, do you know how many?
  6. Meanwhile the Bills were not able to fill the Center position and the line fell apart without Wood.
  7. This comment is breathtaking. We literally know nothing about what happened, and you are jumping to some WILD conclusions.
  8. This is the first time I plan on listening to the radio broadcast while I watch. Does anyone know if there is a delay if you do it this way?
  9. I see your point about the offer sheet, but based on the Woods extension it is clear they did not want Groy to be the starter. Don't get me wrong, it does mean Woods was more expendable than Jerry, but not by much. As far as the injury, that type of fracture is not a recurring injury. Like, unfortunately, Krofts' injury. Wood didn't deserve an injury label. Lastly, lineman can get older than any other position on the field (aside QB). The one year difference doesn't mean much. Also, I don't understand the bolded part. They both had one year left on their deals.
  10. @BADOLBILZ What are your thoughts, did Beane e-wood himself again? That's it, right? You don't believe in extensions.
  11. Free agency is such a pain. Half those guys will get retained, a quarter of those that don't will get tagged, and the rest aren't worth the free agent contracts they will get.
  12. I used to be really in to PFF, but after E.Wood and @AngryNFLScoutVet came out on twitter and said it was impossible to grade these guys without knowing the play, and that you can't just guess the play, I am just completely out on them.
  13. On twitter, Mike Tannenbaum described Hughes as the first guy his teams prepared for when planning for the Bills. He gets really good production. I also believe sacks are overrated, except to the extent they indicate whether a player is consistently getting pressure on the QB (I can expand on this if you want). The fact that Hughes gets that kind of consistent pressure (regardless of sacks) makes him wildly productive in my eyes. Penalties suck, but I think you are overvaluing them. They are important, but their is not as much of a correlation between penalties and wins as people think.
  14. You ever see those videos on Youtube of soldiers surprising their kids by coming home early from deployment, and the video has 300,000 likes but 5 dislikes, and you wonder to yourself who in the world is disliking this video? That is you. You are that guy.
  15. Far and away a top 5 take on this board. I remember the first time I read that, and I couldn't tell if I was reading irony or not (it was with regard to E.Wood). That's when you know you are at Stephen A. level takes.
  16. Fire extension. Where is that hat poster that doesn’t understand the concepts of extensions—he said the woods contract was stupid because he still had a year left on his deal.
  17. Singeltary has looked like a real bust through OTAs so far. I wonder if he has any trade value?
  18. Like, even that isn't really responsive to what I just said. My point was I don't think this team is going to be good because of the rookies or free agents. If we are good, it will be because Josh Allen took a step forward and not a step back. However, it is equally likely he could go either way. For some reason you got super hung up on my saying I don't think they will be the third worst team in the league. To be honest, I threw it in as an aside. It really wasn't relevant to the point I was making.
  19. I feel you like you are getting super distracted about a very minor portion of the point I was trying to make...
  20. Jets had 4 wins this year, so its in the ballpark.
  21. I mean, anything could happen. What I am saying is it not as obvious we will be that much better this year, as is implied by these responses. Do I think we will be the third worst team in the league this year? Thats a bit dramatic. But I do think we could be a 5-6 win team year. That is where my money is.
  22. I think people are wayyyyy too optimistic about this year. Thinking that brand new rookie and free agent starters are the key to success is usually a fool's errand. That, in addition to the fact that Josh Allen could just as easily take a step back as he could forward, creates a real possibility this season could go very poorly. After all, its not unusual that 2nd year quarterbacks regress. I am glad we have upgrades all over the line, but those guys have never played in Daboll's system and have never played together. The OL group, more than most, rely heavily on communication and chemistry, something they don't have. I think they will pull it together, but I fully expect it to take a while, like half the season a while. The defense should be good again, even though we still do not have much of a pass rush aside from Jerry who is aging. Don't get me wrong, it could go really well. But its not out of the question this is a tough year for them.
  23. I didn't realize I spelled it wrong until you quoted it. That is gonna bug me for the rest of the day.
