Trent Murphy - What Am I Missing?
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to GG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lol. Murphy has been our best pass rusher against first team OLs this preseason. I'll trade his frequent pressure for losing the occasional contain. This is just more narrative bias. -
If you’re really hardcore, check out cover1.

There is so much good content out there. There is legit no reason to listen to that guy.

I think the official number is 6. I didn't see anyone say 2, but I take your word for it. As far as the video, I have watched it, and some of those "drops" should not be drops. Like the play where he tried to catch the ball on his back. It is sort of reminiscent of the of the Clay Miami "drop." Threads upon threads dedicated to whether it was a bad throw or a drop. Its subjective. I like relying on the stat keepers here. Maybe the stat keepers have a different vision of what a drop is than the fans. However, its the same standard applied to every player in the league. It provides a reliable metric to see where Zay stacks up against the other WRs in the league.

We need to get this over the Bills' bulletin board. STAT.
-
This is it. Zay has to deliver. His level of play thus far does not warrant a second contract. He is fine for a second year player, but he needs to start to elevate his game. He has started by cleaning up many of the drops, but he needs to do more. Zay had one more drop than Woods last year. Granted, Woods had more targets, but their drop percentage is only 2% difference. Again, to my point, perception v. reality.
-
See, this is a basic perception problem. He had drops, you are right. Point is everyone has drops; he did not have an above average number of drops. And that video you posted, while it certainly shows some drops (but others that are on the verge of completely u catchable) does nothing to prove he had more drops than any other receiver.
-
The official number is 5. It’s the same standard as every other nfl WR in the league. Like they say, facts don’t care about your feelings. You may feel it’s a drop, but by the standard applied to every player in the league, it is not. Im dying over the fact that you thought this video proves your point. This is fantastic.

Naturally there was the exact amount of context missing from that Burkett story as I thought there would be. The fact that you were that misleading with your blind stat challenge tells me everything I need to know about you. Because, apparently, you have this magical eye that allows you to see drops not seen my any other statistician or pro sports analyst.
-
Ohhhhh i see your point. That’s fair. I honestly do not know the trajectory of their careers. I’m sure there is some glaring context you are leaving out, but I’ll give it to you. All I’m saying is that if you think zay can’t play because of the drops, which was your original point, you are objectively and demonstrably wrong.
-
He is a # 2 WR, ranked as an average #2 WR (in yards) and an above average #2 WR (in touchdowns). Sure, an upgrade would be awesome, but lets not pretend he is a garbage WR. That fact that your "eyes" can't pick up evidence borne out in statistics is why you should probably be a little more skeptical of your own opinions.

That makes alot of sense. And, McD knows how to coach defense, who am I to argue with that philosophy. Is he really missing assignments? Can you describe that a bit? I'm very interested.
-
Shaq is disciplined, but he doesn't get sacks. I haven't watched close enough to see Murphy missing assignments, but I will take your work for it. I just notice him constantly jumping off the screen at me. I'll take sacks over the occasional missed assignment.
-
Also, and I am a little late with this, Murphy has looked like our strongest pass rusher through camp and in the preseason. He looks fasssst.

We are also second in DVOA.
