Its just, why would someone come to a message board just to complain. Don't people want to learn? I have learned soooo much about football from my time on message boards, but its because occasionally I have to acknowledge that I am wrong, and then learn why. If that is not what you are doing here, why even post? It seems like such a massive waste of time. Like, the other day someone told me Star was bad because he lined up at an angle as the 1-tech. Or a guy that doesn't understand the concept of gap assignments. That is like @SoTier levels of not understanding the game.

You said: the Bills' run game is "lousy against serious defenses." Those numbers indicate he ran for over 5 yards per carry. And, since we are on the topic, against the second best defense the bills played, the Titans, they ran for 4.0 yards per carry. You can't possibly think any of what you are claiming makes any sense.

WGR-550 Dust-up Today: Schopp vs. Capaccio!
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was saying that because of the varying schedules, you have to look past just wins and losses. Some years you have an easy schedule, some years you have a hard schedule. That is why you look to point differential. That part was okay, but what annoyed me is he didn't appreciate the phase of development. The team he was comparing us to was the year we had Orton and that really good defense. That was THE finished product, their was no where else to go. This years team has a second year developmental quarterback, who is continually improving, mind you. It is much earlier in the process than the Orton team. -

Holy cow, what a take. -
I mean, you don’t understand gap responsibility. I’m not sure how you can ever be reasoned with. Like, if you don’t understand why passing yards is a good thing, you’ll never understand why tom Brady is good. So if you don’t understand why Gap responsibility is good, you’ll never understand DT play.

Run Defense - Interesting Stats/Observations

Yes, I have been punished for half the day with frequent notifications because I used poor wording. Thank you. The point remains. The problem is not a crisis. The Eagles sprung a big run on a blown assignment. Aside from that, they could not effectively run the ball. What that means is that at a fundamental level, the run defense is OK. But it also means that care needs to be given to ensure consistency on EVERY play. -

If the Eagles run for five yards on every carry, that means two things. First, it means that the offense never gets to third down because they get the tenth yard on the second run. It also means that they are scoring at will. It hurts you on every drive. If the Eagles run for 2.0 ypc, it means they have to deal with multiple 3rd and longs. Even if the Eagles convert at a high clip, it still means the defense is getting off the field on some occasions. That 65 yard run hurts for one drive, and that's it. One is worse than the other. -

My original point was that literally giving up 5 yards on every rush play (not just on average) is worse than giving up a 60 yard rush play and 2.0 ypc on the remaining rushes. I acknowledge that both are bad. I am only saying one is worse than the other. -

I know its a problem, my point was a little more nuanced than that. In any event, your second point is the real problem. the margin for error is razor thin, and that needs to get fixed. In a hurry. -
I think its more about leverage. Contrary to popular opinion, this defense is about gap responsibility. The gap the RB runs to is not always Edmunds or Milano's responsibility. Here, Milano did not cut off the gap. Thats why Hyde's over pursuit looked so ugly and useless. I Milano was supposed to get leverage on the other side of the blocker, pushing the RB to cut back towards Hyde. I think.

You are right. Both CAN lead to losses. What you are missing is that 5 yards on every run WILL lead to losses. That means every drive has no third downs and ends in touchdowns. One big play with a 2.0 y/c average equals one LIKELY touchdown, but the remaining drives are stalling out. Its super bad. It can result in a loss. But it is not nearly as bad as every drive ending in a touchdown, as I outline above. -

I think its fair to acknowledge that giving up 5 yards every time the ball is handed off is legitimately a much bigger problem than giving up two big runs and some QB scrambles a game.
