Bengals release Preston Brown

He made one pro bowl while on the Bills. You really think that creates Revis level value? -

Those aren't comparable. I am pretty sure those players all had time left on their deals, except for maybe Revis. Like, Davis still had two years on his rookie deal. Besides that, Gilmore wasn't universally considered the best CB in the league when he was here. He was, at best, above average. He would have been worth something, but there is no basis to believe it would have been a 1st. -

Yeah, that's wrong too. But, we could have probably gotten something for him, so its not as crazy as what I thought you were saying. -

Ohhhhhhh. You were saying Darby is the lesser player. I got you. Wait, are you suggesting we would have gotten a 1st for Gilmore on just the tag? -

You mean Darby? Nice. Prove you are right. Prove the bills could have gotten a 1st for Darby. If you can, you will have every right to call them short sighted. Until then, you are just talking out of your ass. -

I love when fans just assume the value of a player like they have any idea what they are talking about. -

This is said every year about someone, and it is never true. -

Edmunds is the lynchpin of the pass defense and far from the problem in the rush defense. Edmunds is never going to move; you guys need to let it go. -

Rational Thoughts after the Browns
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is where I'm at. Guys are open all over the field. Execution is just way off. I expect JA to miss the occasional throw, but the number of drops is astonishing to me. Those are absolute drive killers. I think he meant targets. -
Good Teams Start with Competent Coaching

It wasn’t a go. It was an option route. JA threw the option (Back shoulder), brown stuck with the go, but brown said after the game he should have taken the option because he didn’t beat his man. -

100% problem with the Deep Ball this year.
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to Allen2Moulds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean, we don't really need to be throwing it deep on 3rd and 3 -
I have no idea what that means... I'm sort of on team we need to execute. We have dropped may too many balls this year, and they are absolute drive killers. I honestly think that if we just catch the easy ones, this team is fine. I think the deep ball is way over rated, especially since he hits 20 yard passes like they are three yard outs.

This is super dramatic. Deep balls are fun, but the don't make or break an offense. I am way more upset about the execution errors; specifically, dropped balls. If we didn't have so many, most of our offensive troubles go away. -

As long as he continues to hit the 10 to 20 yards pass as well as he does, he stays in. Barkley can't hit those throws like JA does, and its not even close. Those throws are also way more important than the occasional deep shot. -
To be honest, I never complained about the approach. But after years of seeing the run-first bills teams fail, I have given up on it. I am happy we are throwing a ton. I don't care if it hurts us in the short term. I want to know if JA can be a franchise QB; and, the only way we will know for sure is if he throws it all over the field. That doesn't really have anything to do with the match ups we are discussing above, but that is where I am coming from.

Maybe. Thing is that when people say this they aren't thinking at all about the defensive alignment, the progression of the game, the plays we way we have set up play action, certain route and run concepts, etc. Maybe Singletary got 5.4 per because he ran the ball against specific alignments, opening up massive holes? And maybe we only got those alignments a few times. I don't really know the answer, but I know people calling for more runs don't either. Point is that this team is trying to play match ups. I don't think it is acceptable they haven't started to get better at it, but its what they are doing. For years I listened to this board complain about having a run first identity; how we were getting left behind the times; etc. Now we pass a ton and play match ups, all the things fans called for for years, and we want to go back to this run-first identity? Its wild to me.

The Browns compensated by putting extra guys in the box, so the play was to pass. Also, and not for nothing, Coaches game plan based on film, not on league rankings. But think about the eagles game. People couldn't understand why we didn't run. It was the same thing, Eagles put extra men in the box and were excelling at stopping the run. We answered by throwing it through the air. It just didn't work.

Rational Thoughts after the Browns

I don't know how one titles a thread "Rational Thoughts" and then starts the OP with "Yesterday was a foundation shaking moment." Seriously, hyperbole is the opposite of rational.
