  1. I had no idea the drop rate had such a drastic affect on his over all completion percentage. That is crazy.
  2. Comparing stats is a losing battle, regardless of which side you are on. At the end of the day, JA has demonstrated the ability to read defenses and make high difficulty throws. That's the difference between him and EJ, Sanchez, or whoever else you want to point to. JA is making throws those guys couldn't dream of even attempting. Is he top 10 right now? No. Is he bottom 10? No.
  3. Credibility and commitment. Fist, you are coming in hot with a spicy take, without any citation or evidence. You haven't really been around long enough for your hot takes to mean anything without citation. Heck, I haven't even been around long enough to do that. Second, you signed up to the board deep into our first 10 win season. How credible is the person that only wants to chat about the team once its winning? Maybe that's not you, but who is to know--you have 94 posts.
  4. You say so Mr. 94 posts on this board.
  5. One-offs are no good? You mean one-offs like him losing contain?
  6. Didn't he force a fumble against the Steelers when they were driving down the field?
  7. Those acts are all accidental. You are calling for an intentional dirty play.
  8. Add through the draft, pay your guys. No need for splashy FAs. Just keep building the right way.
  9. Thats an even better point.
  10. The fact that Spain is leaving is the only reason I can stomach Ford going inside. Ford has not been that bad, and fan expectations are wildly out of whack. But if its to fill a hole, that is a different story.
  11. That would be unconscionably dirty. If a Bill did that, I would want him off the team, and I would hope this organization would feel the same way.
  12. If you have a lead, and if the other teams offense is struggling, and the other teams defense is a dominant unit, you do not put the ball in the air or in a dangerous position for more points. You run the clock and put the onus on the struggling offense to make a play. It is a basic match-up. For example, if you are on offense, and you see Stephon Gilmore on the right side and an UDFA on the left side, and you absolutely need to make a play to win the game, you do not throw the ball to Gilmore, you throw to the UDFA. Same thing on a grander scale here. Trying to "put points on the board" is like throwing to Gilmore when you can just throw to the UDFA.
  13. Not exactly the same thing, but that attitude is based on reputation, not scouting. Brady this year is not the Brady of past. But you are right, he is smarter than Hodges and that is an element to take into consideration. I just think that even with that in mind, you still play conservative. If you get aggressive against that defense, you will have turnovers and you will end up playing from behind.
  14. You play the team across from you. The Steelers lead the league in turnovers, so you shouldn't give them chances to get them. Plus, their QB is an UDFA. If you put the ball in his hands under pressure, you are going to be fine. If they are playing Tom Brady or Mahomes, it is a different story.
  15. This is wrong. Conservatism just means you do not take unnecessary chances. Playing aggressive offense against the best defenses in the league is like playing with fire. Why would you put the ball in jeopardy against the #1 turnover team in the NFL? The only way the Steelers could have won last night is if they got a bunch of turnovers. The Bills were smart not to give them that chance. It is the same thing against the Patriots.
  16. The steelers were favored to win the game....
  17. "I've seen his stats" is usually code for "I didn't watch the games and I don't know what I'm talking about, but I have a way too strong opinion"
  18. It is sort of like refusing to run the ball against a bad rush defense. You do not play to other team's strengths. Pitt has a great defense and a horrible offense. That means you do not take unnecessary chances on offense and play solid defense. That was McDermott's game plan, and it worked. It would be different against Baltimore, KC, or the like. You play the team in front of you; you coach against the team in front of you.
  19. For some reason, a part of DCOrange's post didn't show up when I quoted him. It was the following commentary from the PFF article. I honestly couldn't believe PFF was of this opinion. Counterpoint (EE): This is for all you doubters out there (yeah, I’m talking to you, PFF_Steve). All of you who think that throwing the ball accurately is more important in today’s NFL than having the arm strength to send the ball clear out of bounds in those stiff Buffalo winds. You idiots who don’t appreciate Mose Schrute’s brother frolicking through defenses on long-yardage plays en route to leading the league’s 26th-best offense. Those of you who mock and ridicule the decision to draft an ineffective college passer from the Mountain West more than 20 spots ahead of a Heisman Trophy winner than may soon be the NFL’s MVP. THIS ONE’S FOR YOU.Sure, the Steelers have what may very well be the league’s best defense. Yeah, they may be getting back one of the league’s most dynamic young receivers to join a stable full of emerging talent that also includes Diontae Johnson and James Washington. Yes, we know Heinz Field is one of the league’s premier home-field advantages. None of that is going to matter Sunday night when our boss slides into view, because Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is on a roll. Only 31 starting quarterbacks have a better negatively graded throw rate than Allen. This is the game they drafted him for.
  20. Oh, I read your OP as discussing two issues: long ball and touch on passes. I didn't realize one was in the context of the other.
  21. I don't know about the passer v. thrower thing. In his podcast, Beasley dives into how early on Josh would just fire the ball in. However, as time has gone on, Josh has figured out how to take something off the ball and to throw more catch-able balls. I think that has shown through this year, as he has hit a couple wheel routes and other throws that require some ark or a soft touch.
  22. I do too. I'll take the occasional 40 yard start if it costs us 5 yards here and there, especially since he doesn't fumble the ball.
