I think that is demonstrably untrue--even a casual watch of any Bills' game reveals guy running open all over the field. The answers are universally there, and Josh just can't hit them. That is ok, he is young and is getting better, but if you think Daboll doesn't make good calls or "adjust," you just flat out do not know what you are looking at. It is true the Bills are 8th in turnovers, but Josh Allen, according to PFF, throws the highest percentage of intercept-able balls. Think what you want about PFF's grades, but that particular stat rings true. That means he makes bad throws, many of which are unforced. If you press throws to stay aggressive in that context, you are inviting trouble. A perfect example is the Steelers game, which was in essence a race to see who would have the fewest turnovers.

Maybe put it this way: it is easier to sustain an offense that can carry the team than it is to sustain a defense that can carry a team. So you don't want to the staff to coach to THIS team's strengths? You want them to pretend they are coaching a different team, with different strengths? Generic analytic presumptions do not apply universally to every team in the league. Pretending they do puts teams in unnecessarily difficult positions.

He is right--a good offense is more sustainable than a good defense. That said, if the situation was reversed this year, I think the team would have the same record, if not worse. As far as long term outlook, if the goal is to rely on defense year in and year out, we would be in trouble. But we aren't. JA has made leaps forward, Dabol has schemed a system that covers most of the teams flaws, and the offense on a whole is on the way up. I think this whole foundation is wildly sustainable.

I think over the top fandom is stupid

Yeah. That is what I was driving at. -

That may all be true. My comment is more a response to the places you think we need upgrades. I realllllly appreciate what you are saying here. But when you say things like we need an upgrade at punter, all I can think is that you don't really know what the punter market looks like and are more wrapped up in how a miffed punt made you feel. Or when you say we need a RT, I think its safe to say you are getting really carried away (Ford is a rookie...). -

Meanwhile, I am 100% confident that your overzealous fandom (not that I am judging) is precisely why you can't evaluate the team correctly. You get so wrapped up in narratives and how plays/players make you feel in their moments of failure that you end up thinking they need to be replaced/below NFL caliber. All the while you don't take the time or energy to look around the league to see what the standard/average even is. -
Those are good points. The problem is that when the cap goes up, so too do player contract demands. It evens out. But thats neither he nor there. As a matter of fact, I am in favor of re-signing Phillips and Shaw. For me, when you have guys that buy in, work the process, and then succeed, you just have to reward them. What is the point of all this process stuff if you don't reward your guys? That might be a bit hoakie, but it all rings a bit hollow if you don't.

No worries. Its so hard to figure out. But its a thing I am going to say over and over until the off-season. I think we need to be ready to not resign alot of fan favorites/not be aggressive in free agency because Beane is saving money for the future. Think about it, they will need to extend Poyer, Milano, Dawkins, and Tre, and then after that Allen, Edmunds, and Hyde. Conversely, if the Bills DO sign Phillips, Shaq, or a FA, what is really happening is Beane is saying they can do without one of those guys I just listed.

Allen slammed on ESPN

I'm pretty sure the coaches care more about wining and making a push into the playoffs. But yeah, as every knows, coaches love gambling and setting up gameplans that increase their chances of losing. -
Improving the O right now.

Josh plays better. Receivers stop dropping balls. Problem solved. I don't care who you put in there, if Josh doesn't pull it all together, the offense isn't going to improve. Josh can't pull it together if the receivers don't catch passes. Duke is not going to make a difference. It is silly to think he will. -
How bad is Levi Wallace making tackles?
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to Stallions's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has good games and bad games. Even his bad games are never really that bad. He isn't a play maker or a game changer, but he is solid. That is a bit of recurring theme on this defense. -

Where'd you find that stat? I'm not saying you are wrong, I am just curious. I know he has not been a great pass rusher, but I don't really care that much--I'd rather have a good all around defender than a guy that is terrible in all other aspects but tallies 10 sacks a year. Murphy is long and can really extend the line of scrimmage. He has forced two fumbles this year, which I am really happy about, and as a rotational guy has been reliable setting the line of scrimmage.
