JP should play one quarter....
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Lv-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If JP comes out and ligths it up in Q1 I'd take him out in Q2 and see what's up with Nall. It'd be good to get him out on a high note and not give him, or the o-line a chance to mess up any confidence he has or that others have in him. If he comes out hot he's also in no danger of being surpassed as "front-runner" At that point we'd need to see if Nall or Holcomb will be #2 (which is still an important question because I think if KH comes out as #3 he'll be gone and either Kingsbury or another #3 from somewhere around the league (Rattay, Koy Detmer)will come aboard. Then JP comes out in game #3 as the starter, gets a half to 3 quarters of work with the O and whomever stinks worse in game #2 mops up as a last shot type deal. Game #4 is started by JP who plays 2 series and finished by the winner of Nall/Holcomb. QB #3 only sees the field if it's someone other than CN or KH. -
Yeah that looked like it hurt too, his knee just fell apart when he was making a cut. Knees shouldn't bend 90 degrees sideways right?

Bengals Lewis Contacts Maurice Claretts' Agent

You're right. Stabbing is more prison than thug, but whatever. -
Nick Saban making a horrible decision
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to LevysEraII's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, how big is that Pokeball? -
Not from me. I'm actually glad he said it because now he has something to prove to people again. He had something to prove after he was hurt, he came back and played well, now he can put that chip back on his shoulder and come out and prove those who have ridiculed him for that statement wrong. Some people need that kind of motivation. Thurman always said being drafted in round 2 was always a big motivating factor for him because he wanted to show everyone that they had made a mistake.

No no see, if I were referring to a family named Benjamin I would have used an apostrophe as in "Benjamin's" to refer to a baby belonging to said family. But, in this particular case, I was making a pop culture reference; the origins of which I suspect you are also aware.

That's your word today isn't it. I've seen it in two different posts. Nothing like a little malfeasance to cast asunder the efforts of the righteous.

#1. Sam Adams. He started to go that way in '04 until Mularkey benched him. last year he went for the Full Monty. He malingered all year rather than be a positive veteran leader he was the opposite. #2. Mike Williams. Same deal, his attitude was crap, he was one of the supposed leaders of the offense and his lackadaisical attitude rubbed off on others. People who don't care are just as bad, or worse, than those who mouth off. I wouldn't ever say Moulds because he played his ass off at the end of the year when it meant nothing.
-
OK, but have you ever heard him identify a weakness in his own game either? That was the question Bush was asked. It's not like he grabbed the mic and screamed I HAVE NO WEAKNESSES! I AM INFALLIBLE! Somebody asked him a question and he answered it.

or Constantin Ritzmann, or Grant Irons...etc.

I have a hard time with PLANNING on switching QB's during the season. If it happens it happens but to have it built in as part of a master scheme is kinda foolish. JP needs to start, if we get beat we get beat, he needs to take his lumps and grow with the rest of the offense, whether we as fans like it or not. I hope that DJ won't be so easily swayed by public (OUR) opinion that he changes QB's because we're grumbling...because frankly we ALWAYS grumble. We need to find out if our QB of the future is on the roster or not, starting Holcomb for any reason but injury damages that process. In your scenario I'd rather them start NALL sight unseen for weeks 1 and 2, he's an unknown quantity as is JP, Holcomb is what he is and that's it. And I'm quite sure that I'll piss off half the board when I say this (because for some reason we always have to have 2 QB camps) but if we start Holcomb we MIGHT win more games this season, but we'll delay our emergence as a quality contender by 1 season because if we somehow go 9-7 or something and make the playoffs what do we do In February? If there's any result but a Super Bowl victory does Holcomb stay? We're right back into the Bledsoe/Losman thing again. Losman and/or Nall have to play this year. have to. If we stink we stink and we go get someone else whether it's Brady Quinn or a vet from another team.

Why do NFL people draft these guys?
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Sen. John Blutarsky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To address #1, I guess what I'm saying is there isn't a lot of room in the NFL to make decisions like that, you only have 53 spots and each player has to be productive. If as the article says he's "been depressed for awhile" he needs to be seeking treatment and if he is doing that and the Dolphins are helping him that's great. Here's the but. This isn't new behavior for this guy, he was a massive underachiever in college, he stunk last season (4 tackles, 1 sack), and is having issues again already this season. #2. It's not that kind of situation, I understand your comparison to corporate America, but it is vastly different. NFL players act and are treated much differently than normal "corporate assets". But to go along with the analogy think of it this way, you have an employee who submits a resignation letter and you reject the resignation forcing the employee either to remain or quit, and thus screw up their reference base (particularly if they've been with the company for awhile) It's bad either way, you either have a person who underperforms because they have expressed a desire to leave, or they have to screw themselves and walk away, both options would be noticted by the other employees as well and, depending on how well liked the employee was create some animosity toward the supervisor and company. Which leads me into #3. #3. Manny Wright really doesn't have any value to another franchise at this point. Noone is going to give up a draft pick to take him off your hands based on his TC situations 2 years running, screw-ups in college and his 4 tackle season last year. They only way to be rid of him is to release him. Which, if you are evaluating his performance to date, in the NFL and college, is sub-standard and unacceptable. When you add the ongoing headache of his behavior to that it begs the question why does he remain there? Saban has total control down there. It was his call to bring Wright in in the first place, when he and all the other GMs knew about his issues. It will be his call as to when his is released. My point over-all, is that Saban seems to be hanging on too long with players who have given no indication that they a. have changed, b. will ever change, or c. have any desire TO change. You can get away with that moreso in college because you have 80- scholarships to give out, you can have 4 or 5 guys that aren't working out but you keep them on scholarship because they might be good kids and you don't want to take their education away and MAYBE by the time they're seniors they'll put it all together and be special. You can't do that in the NFL, if you don't produce you are gone and you need to be gone, whatever the reasons for it. There aren't enough roster spots or cap space to be charitable. -
Hey, Joe Cribbs Is Coming To Town!
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to true_blue_bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dunno I can't give Cribbs slack even if the Bills were cheap, it's like getting dumped by your girlfriend for a guy who is much more attractive and wealthy. You can't blame her, but it doesn't mean you'll ever forgive her. Especially that '85 year when the hot new rich guy turned out to be a charlatan that left her high and dry and she came staggering back because she didn't have a place to crash? Speaking of Harmon, doesn't anyone wish you could go back to the '85 supplemental draft and select Reggie White rather than trade the pick to Cleveland? (I know we picked Harmon in '86, it was with the first of those 2 picks, Wolford & Harmon) Imagine White at LDE and Bruce at RDE? God, it'd be sick... I have to get that time machine I bought on E-Bay working, have to remember to put the crystals in this time... -
Scotty Bowman was at the Bills practice
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not so much a dig at Marv as a shot at Scotty. It's ridiculous the number of cups he won to have that big blank spot in the middle of his resume where he DID have the most control of anywhere he'd been. -
Bengals Lewis Contacts Maurice Claretts' Agent
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice...he only needs 10% to get out of lockup though. Seriously, what the hell happened to the Bengals? They went and got all thug on us. Maybe it's the name... Ray Lewis: probably shot somebody after a Super Bowl party Jamal Lewis: Federal drug charges, spent an offseason in jail Marvin Lewis: trying to give every brotha' on the block a break, or attempting to re-create the "Mean Machine"...where's Burt Reynolds? Anybody on this board from the Cincy area? How are the fans handling this? I know we'd be pissed if we were on the blotter that much. -
Linky He wants to be released, Saban says no...as though A. He's ever going to play well B. He has ANY value to another team at this point. This is why Saban's eventually going to flame-out in Miami. He doesn't have 80 scholarships to mask a guy like this. He wasted a 5th rounder, money, a roster spot, and countless time on this guy when most other teams wouldn't touch him and now says he won't cut him? Nick, it's time to walk away from this train wreck. He didn't see it 2 years ago and apparently doesn't see it now. Same deal with Wicky, rather than cut bait he's hanging on, as though he can red-shirt somebody and hope he pulls it together. Really though, feel free to keep as many of these guys as you want on the squad. Oh, and sign Bennie to a LONG LONG deal for BIG BIG money, he's got big upside...or is that backside?

Scotty Bowman was at the Bills practice
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What do Scotty and Marv have in common? They never won a title in Buffalo. Bowman chaps my ass, he won literally everywhere else he went. Good move forcing him out for Rick Dudley... -
It's semantics but there's a difference between having room to improve and having a weakness. A weakness is something you can't do, you can improve something that's already great and still be able to do it today. I'd need to ask Reggie a follow up question or two to get his true feelings re: his ability.
-
the poll is flawed, we only got to choose from reads and evasiveness, how about ability to deliver a 20 yard out, or ability to hit the broad side of a barn. Peyton Manning isn't terribly evasive but he makes good reads, but he can also deliver a decently long pass. Brett Favre is pretty evasive but makes OK reads. If I were choosing between 2 QBs whose attributes were otherwise equal I would choose reads but in the Bills situation (and in MOST situations) that isn't the case. This is a pretty loaded question that the Holcomb sycophants will point to as evidence that Holcomb should start based upon his supposedly superior ability to make the proper read (though I question how a 2 yard throw on 4th and 10 can EVER be the proper read)
-
Do you want a humble running back? I kind of WANT my RB to think he's great. If you ask ANY starting Rb what his weaknesses are I'll bet that all of them say the same thing and if any of them answer differently they'll say blocking because they don't block ever.

Official Madden 07 player ratings out
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They're marketing this year incorporates "Maddenoliday" which is becoming a "real" phenomenon. Attendance at our program last year was awful that day, and 4 staff called out to play the game. I know quite a few people who PLAN to take that day off so they can get the game at midnight and play all night. It's a bit out of hnad. I haven't played like that since college, of course I can toast anyone on this board in Madden 2001 and 2002 :-) -
Fox Sports Bills Preview
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to MichFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's kind of like gambling in that it makes you more interested in the outcomes of games involving teams other than your own. Example, I play Roto-baseball as well and right now I tune into games that I normally wouldn't care about to see how Victor Martinez hits or if Johan Santana is throwing well, or if Dave Roberts has gotten on base and stolen a base. During football season it gives me a vested interest in 4pm games and night games when the Bills aren't playing and the outcome doesn't affect them at all. I can now care about a Saints/Cardinals game in December because I'll have Larry Fitgerald or something. My personal mantra is to avoid Bills and to some extent Phillies at all costs. Personal views of those teams can skew your opinion. I would be likely to overvalue a Bill or Phillie and/or be twice as pissed off if they stink it up, so I just don't draft them at all. My exception this year was Ryan Howard, but I got him in round 7 and he's an animal. Good fantasy players would be good gamblers as well, they are able to be objective about players and matchups and evaluate what a favorable matchup would be.
