Wow, Wendell Bryant. IIRC Larry Felser was all crazy for us to take him. Jason Peter was a winner too.

40 time doesn't concern me as much. Boldin ran in the 4.7s with a similar buiild. As did Marcus Colston.

Apparently had round 2 of Lasik surgery in January. Wonder how his depth perception is or if he's getting halos from the bright lights. Arguement #1 against Lasik surgery. just wear the rec specs son, yah can't f yourself up for life with those.

I wouldn't say that they've tried to get a WR in all off-season. They flirted with Moss at the last minute and Fitzgerald wasn't even an option unless AZ put him on the block which they repeated often that he wasn't. They've actually come out and said several times they their problems passing last year were not the WRs. And given how piss poor their pass protection and how hurt LJ Smith was that's probably pretty accurate. it's not like there has been a carousel of UFA WRs coming in the door. Frankly, most of the Fitzgerald talk was fan generated, i.e. not real. Of Andy Reid's 1st rounders 5 of 8 have been lineman (no 1st rounder in 2007), the only others were McNabb, Lito Sheppard and Freddy Mitchell. Of the 20 1st and 2nd rounders he's had he's taken 8 lineman (Bunkley, Patterson, Justice, Andrews, McDougle, Abiramiri, Bobby (Holding #66) Williams, and Corey Simon) 3 WRs (Pinkston, Mitchell and Reggie Brown), 2 QBs (McNabb and Kolb), 1 TE (LJ Smith), 3 LBs (Caver, McCoy, and Barry Gardner) and 3 DBs (Sheppard, Sheldon Brown and Michael Lewis). They've gone with lineman in round one every year since 2002. Two of the 3 WRs they picked in the first 2 rounds came from 2001 or earlier. They just don't use the picks that way. There has been one year where people weren't screaming for a WR (the year with TO) and it didn't matter.

Ellis will be system dependent. If a team wants big huge DTs they won't pick him. I dunno if Cincy will go the small, quick route. Cincy needs a DE pretty bad with Smith gone and Pollack broken. LB is pretty much a mess as well. I wouldn't be surprised to Cincy move out of this spot either to stockpile picks later. For example, if Philly had a hardon for Ellis they could swap ones and package in Lito Sheppard and another lower pick. Cincy's still in the top 20, gets a pro-bowl corner and another player in return.

You don't know the Eagles either. They almost always spend high picks on linemen. They won't take a LB in the first round, they absolutely refuse to spend money at that position and have gotten burned by some #2s recently. They need an Offensive Tackle really really badly (both starters are 34 and Winston Justice was a turnstile) and I'd be shocked if they don't take one in round one. They'd probably look at DT (yes I know they just spent picks on Bunkley and Patterson)before DE though but they do have another hole at DE since they let go Kearse. There is a big call here to be stronger up the middle. They are absolutely not taking a WR in round 1 and I can't see them taking a safety that high.

If We Want to be Competitive Right Now
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From all reports here Philly is looking for a #1 in return for Lito. They won't settlee for less than a 2 given that was the market for DeAngelo Hall. #4 won't happen -
Would you want Joe Horn WR?
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there's already a thread about a paleontology conference on off the wall... -
!@#$ Merl Mullins said

I make it a policy never to listen to people named Merl unless it's about long distance trucking or country music. -
You can pretty much cut to the chase and hunt the live ones up there can't ya?

What's this about Malcolm Kelly's knees?!!
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah they were pretty lax at handing out the adamantium vitamins. Damn those trainers for failing to prevent broken bones... -
Here's a little fun for you. We picked two WRs in the same draft. One guy was 6'4 205 lbs and was pretty fast (I don't remember exactly what time). The other guy was 6'2" 190 lbs and relatively slow. See if you can guess who was who then tell me who was better.

Kalimba Edwards
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Sen. John Blutarsky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
true but they just brought in Will (Peterson) James too who has never been looked at as a high character guy. I'm just sayin'...the consistency isn't there so I smell at least a bit of BS. -
These answers don't jive. Players who rely on athletic ability in college to get open have to be ungodly athletes (Randy Moss) to succeed in the NFL. There are way more successful WRs who have fewer measurables but run good routes and find holes in zones (Jerry Rice). Route running is a VERY underrated part of the WR position. IMO, it''s the biggest point of difference between most WRs. They all run reasonably fast, most of them catch well, they're all about the same size. Precise routes and understanding zone coverage make big differences.

Kalimba Edwards

I'd agree with that except they just had James Hall in who is just as nicked up and equally unproductive save for one year. He's possibly cheaper but the rest of the arguement really doens't work for me. He's the 4th DE, we need what 10-15 good snaps a game? -
Kalimba Edwards
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Sen. John Blutarsky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with that but I'm sure that's the story he'll get from the rest of the league too. he might be a guy you can get cheap on a one year deal or 3 year deal that's laden with performance incentives and roster bonuses that would increase his ability to become a UFA again if he plays well. -
Can I ask what sort of conference would be in Saskatoon in March? Snowmobile salesmen? Ice fishing gear? mosquito nets?
-
We brought in James Hall who had a good year with Jauron. Dickie knows Edwards pretty well too. Anyone else think he's worth a look-see? I was more interested in him than in Kevin Jones frankly.
-
Except he's short with a big...uhmmmm....power pack.
-
He is aware that he went to high school in State College, PA right? Then he went to PSU, then he went to Kansas City? When has he lived ANYWHERE that is appealing to young black men? (what does that mean BTW? There are a lot of "young, black men" in Sub-Saharan Africa but somehow that's not what I think he means)

Bannister is a great gunner on special teams. He won't be expensive and can be a 5th wideout. i'd be happy with that. Scobey is more of a kick return 3rd down back. What he really is is a smoke screen. If you sign Scobey you comitt further to RB by committee as he's a 3rd down type guy to fit with AT who's not. Bannister being in is legit, Scobey's not. We're drafting a RB but we want to throw ppl off the scent.

Vince Young on Madden Cover
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to JimBob2232's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We need to campaign for Brady to be on the cover next year -
I am SOO tired of being right all the time. I'm ready to be horribly horribly wrong for awhile. Here's to 9-10 wins! Actually it's not that I root for them to lose, it's that I feel like if I allow myself to believe they'll win that somehow affects the cosmic balance of the universe so they end up losing. That's not just me either, that's a WNY thing from getting disappointed so many times.

Vince Young on Madden Cover
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to JimBob2232's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marketing. Vince Young is a more fun video game QB anyway, he can run and throw (sort of). Madden has had Vick, Culpepper and McNabb on the cover. Now Young. Why were you surprised it wasn't Manning? I think the last white guy on the cover of Madden was actually Madden.
