  1. We disagree. Like I said, it's entirely possible that Parrish just hasn't gotten open. I also haven't seen any sort of concerted effort to get him the ball. Reed has bounced back well from the dropsies that he suffered through earlier in his career. Also, Reed started 13 games last year so he was (at least nominally) the #2 WR last year, not the slot. If I have to pick between the two guys for one roster spot I have to look at what each guy can do that I can't replace. TO should take more than 50 balls himself so Reed catching 50 balls is already replaced. He's not tall, he's not fast, he's not a game breaker on ST, he's not a gunner. He's 5'10" tall. He's 28 years old. His blocking is definetly good and not something that can be replaced by TO or Parrish. The question with that skill now is how often will we run out of 3WR sets? he is not exciting to any marketing department anywhere Parrish caught half as many passes last year and scored just as many TDs (1 - YAY!) and was usually the 3rd or 4th WR though he spit wide on occasion. He's also never had more than 35 in a year. He's 5'9" tall and is much slighter than Reed (by about 40 lbs). He's 26 years old. His blocking is not comparable to Reed. He is quicker than he is fast but is both quicker and faster than Reed. He is not a gunner. He is the best PR in the NFL though that skill could possibly be replaced by McKelvin, though McKelvin is slated to start at CB this year and players usually come off full-time returns at that point, see also Nate Clements. He is highly marketable and is good for at least one buzz making play a season, if not more. I'm not saying that Reed isn't a good football player. If we keep the other WRs we have to pick one. Even if Parrish is only ever a great PR he's still the best in the league at that right now. Hardy Evans and Owens ar elocks. I think we all want Steve Johnson to stay and Jenkins is the incumbent gunner. The only other person who could cobceivably go would be Jenkins but I'd need to see the plan for kick coverage if that happens. Neither Parrish nor Reed is the perfect player but given what each can do and the small number of times each is likely to see the ball this season I'd rather have Parrish for his gamebreaking ability and special teams play. You'd rather have Reed and that's cool. Reed just doesn't do enough for to me to make him unreplaceable. Also, even if we assume that Parrish flops at the #3 WR it makes more room for Johnson to get on the field which most of us want anyway. If Reed's there Jauron has the "proven veteran" card to cling to. If you were to keep Reed the question would then be Parrish or Jenkins and I think Parrish still wins since it's harder to find a PR than a gunner.
  2. If Philly does that deal we should call re: Brent Celek immediately.
  3. I agree that Josh Reed is the guy that the Bills have USED as that guy but I still would rather see Parrish get those touches. When the best thing you can say about a WR is that he's a solid blocker that's usually not good. For whatever reason, Parrish hasn't gotten the ball nearly enough in his tenure here. If that's on him for not being open so be it. Given our recent braintrust I tend to think it's more a lack of creativity on our part. For example, why Parrish ever splits out wide is beyond me. He's the definition of a slot receiver. He should be getting at least a couple touches a game on bubble screens (given how much we throw on 3rd and short, etc.) and other plays that get him in space with the ball. Those plays haven't been called. Part of it may be how Parrish has been defensed. When he was on the field in pre-2008 he was no worse than the 3rd scariest player on the field for a defense behind Evans and maybe Lynch. Nobody gameplans to stop Josh Reed. They'll let him catch balls all day because it's better to take away the home run hitters like Evans and Parrish. Realistically our passing options last year were not great and the lack of a real TE or legit #2 WR hurt us. it was very easy to take players away from us. Now we have a real #2. Even if we don't get a TE defenses will plan for TO ahead of Parrish now so that might make some space underneath for him. If we had a real TE to put on the other side of the field we'd be pretty scary as there'd be 5 real/scary passing options on every play instead of the previous 3 (Evans, Lynch and Parrish - noone cares about Reed or any TE we have) The bottom line is at least one of the WRs from last year is leaving. Evans - staying Stevie Johnson - better be staying Hardy - staying Jenkins - probably staying since the replacement on the roster is TO and he plays no ST That leaves room for Reed or Parrish but not both (assuming we carry 6 WRs and don't draft any of note). Parrish is the best PR in football and has potential to be dynamic on every snap he's on the field as the 3rd or 4th WR. Reed is a reasonably dependable posession receiver who can block and catch punts but isn't a game breaker in any phase. He's also older and less marketable. I think Parrish ends up staying and Reed either gets cut or dealt.
  4. Philly doesn't pay anybody and it's more than ironic that they acquired a player who wanted a new deal with 3 years left. Philly has at least one of those guys every year. Last year it was Lito Sheppard and Brian Westbrook. This year it's Sheldon Brown and maybe Shawn Andrews and they already let Brian Dawkins (who is nearly akin to God in Philly) walk away over a relatively small amount of money. They had TO, they had Ricky Watters. they had Duce Staley. The list of players who have been unhappy and wanted new deals with multiple years left is huge. Philly will be 20 - 30 million under the cap. They ALWAYS are and they get killed for it around here.
  5. Good point. I saw every game Maybin played. He's quick as hell. The problem is once the OT gets his hands on him he's done. He needs an inside counter move that works for him and I'm really worried about him vs. the run as a DE. If this were the good old days of the 3-4 I would absouletly LOVE Maybin as a blitzing OLB a la Bryce Paup or Kevin Greene. He'd be deadly in that role. But these ain't the old days and I just don't see him working out as a 3 down DE.
  6. Maybe they should have an official BS meter on the bottom of the screen while they are talking to GMs, agents, and talking heads a la Kiper and Mort. Well, not Mort, officially measuring that level of BS might tear the fabric of time and space and cause the end of the universe.
  7. Maybe Ralph also thinks she's a C---?
  8. Then you root for the right team, Sir. Congratulations to you!
  9. Well given our relentless pass rush last year it only made sense for the Bills to keep their shiny new toy under wraps. Why waste a year of Deacon Jones and Michael Strahan combined when we were already abusing every QB in the league? Honestly, it's a move of sheer genius. Look for the Bills to sit Chris Ellis for every game as a way to limit his bargaining power on his next contract. They'll still overpay to keep him of course, they just won't HAVE to overpay him. [\sarcasm]
  10. How about when Lou Saban quit...the first time...
  11. You get one complimentary year of masochism, courtesy of the Buffalo Bills! And, if you act now, they'll upgrade your gift to self injurious behavior and include sides of despair and suicidal ideation for no additional charge!
  12. Can we all just agree now that they both suck? Being the best QB on the 2008 Bills is like being the least dead guy at the morgue, the smartest kid on the short bus, and the skinniest kid at fat camp all at once...
  13. Physically maybe, mentally not so much. FWIW I also hear that JP, likes Ligers, is pretty good with a bo staff, can do sweet jumps with his BMX bike, can throw a ball clear over a mountain, and woulda won state if coach woulda just put him in the game. He also drew a picture of Brett Favre in small red shorts and spent 3 hours shading his upper lip...
  14. I'd rather do it for a #1 next year on the premise that it's always good to go into any draft with two #1 spots. Then next yea rfind a way to do it again. 2 #1s every year from now on. It's the New England way...
  15. Of course this is also the team that started Jerry Crafts at LT the year after playing in the Super Bowl
  16. I'm sure that he hasn't lifted a weight all year.
  17. Given the number of balls Edwards dropped last year it seems to me that those three gentlemen already ARE the Browns top three pass catchers. I'd still take him in a hot second...
  18. I would love to see Ray Lewis. In addition to his play and leadership he'd be a big help with dissecting the Jets twice a year. Unfortunately I don't think Ray Ray wants to play Cover 2 and there are too many "gentlemen" on the team whose feelings would be hurt by Ray Ray's yelling.
  19. Sent a PM to SDS asking to delete my profile.
  20. Don't bother. I'm banning myself.
  21. 3 years, money unstated. My head exploded. I cannot believe that they would release that information today. Here's the e-mail I wrote to the ticket office. Some of you won't like it. I don't care. No one important will read it. I don't care. I just read on ESPN that Dick Jauron signed a 3 year extension to remain on with the team. After today's (and the past several week's) performances I am shocked, and irate with that decision. First of all, following the debacle that has become this season I do not understand how Mr. Jauron is keeping his job at all let along being extended. Secondly, I don't know who in the Public Relations office thought it was a good idea to release that information today given the way the Bills absolutely bumbled away that game but they deserve to be fired (if not publicly flogged). My family held season's tickets from 1965 to 1995 when we moved out of the area. Since then we have made at least one trip every year back to Buffalo to watch a game. During that time we have all stomached more than our share of poor football. Right now I have half a mind to re-order the season's tickets just so I can call back and tell you all to stick them up your collective asses. To give extensions to the coaching staff of this pathetic excuse for a football team is a slap in the face to every person who cares about Bills football and I assure you this year will be the last year we travel up there. The common thread for this team since 1960 has been Ralph Wilson. The only hope for this team to succeed is to find new ownership. Unfortunately that will not happen until Mr Wilson sells and he has made it abundantly clear that he will not sell the team until after he dies. Unfortunately, we all know that when that happens the Bills will be bought and moved to Toronto, or LA or somewhere else. Since nothing will change or improve until Mr Wilson dies maybe he should get on with it and put us all out of our collective miseries rather than continue to fleece us out of our money (and love) year after year with false hopes of glory. Sincerely, Falstaff_in_Philly"
  22. Here's an answer with no qualifiers. This defense sucks. It sucks bad. They get no pressure on the quarterback even when they blitz, they make no big plays, they are HORRIBLE on 3rd down, they play so soft in coverage that they are never in position to make a play even on a tipped or badly thrown ball. Do they even have a DE on the team? and when push comes to shove they can't stop the opposition when it matters. Not that our offesne helps them at all but how many times all season has the defense gievn our offense good field position? Any field position we get is from the ST unit. We can't play field positon because we can't keep the opposition backed up. We inevitably give up at least 2 first downs which allows a flip of field position. How many times have we started from inside our own 10 this year? Have we forced our opponenets to punt from their own end zone all year?
  23. Try this out as an exercise and maybe reconsider your opinion. If the Bills are under center and a WR comes in motion but does NOT go all the through (It's usually Reed) and sort of hangs around by the TE the play will be a run 100% of the time. 100%, I'm not kidding or exaggerating. It has been that way for the last 3 years. If I can see that sitting at home watching on TV do you think maybe people who have staffs of people whose entire job it is to watch film have maybe noticed that too? Ya think it might be a touch easier to defend the run when you know it's coming? Do the Bills need more talent? Yeah they do, especially at center and TE. But when the gameplan and playcalling are so elementary in nature that they can be deciphered by casual observers it's a major problem.
  24. I got a #55 Bennett, a #97 Bennett, a #54 Spielman, and a #51 Spikes (I likes me the linebackers). I haven't upgraded from TKO yet I'm eyeing up Poz but noone on the current team really excites me.
