Bills vs. Packers 1st Half Game Day Thread
VW82 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen has missed 172 open receivers so far today (all numbers approximate). Also, he has a really bad habit of telegraphing our running plays. He'll immediately extend the ball toward the running back as he's running to meet him for the handoff. This only happens when we run the ball. It's annoying. -
Would Allen go Number 1 in a different draft?
VW82 replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it would be very unlikely he'd go number one overall in any draft. Too many question marks and not enough success coming out of college. Allen profiles as the third round guy who a few teams fall in love with and take in the 10-20 range of the first round. He's Kyle Boller. There's someone like him every few years. To be clear, I'm not suggesting he's going to bust or won't be any good, just that he's another QB in a long line that entered the draft with superior physical attributes but not much success at the college level. Those guys almost never go number one. -
Would you rather have: Mahomes or both Allen & Tre?
VW82 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To BigDing Posted this in the other thread you started (same topic) but it immediately got locked, so I'm copy/pasting my response here: So for starters...Obviously you take Mahomes over Allen though your equation is not quite right. No where are you accounting for the extra 2018 FRP that we got for Mahomes and used to trade up for Edmunds. It should be Allen + Tre + Edmunds vs. Mahomes + 2018 FRP + two 2018 SRPs + 2018 TRP. I think you're missing a lot of important context here. McD got hired in Jan 2017. The NFL and college season were done. All the draft intelligence was collected by Whaley's regime. Knowing what we know now, it seems pretty obvious those two men have drastically different ideas of how to put together a football team (i.e. one guy is a talent collector, the other a team builder). Buffalo trading their 2017 FRP for futures and selecting Tre, a cornerback (McD's area of expertise), makes tons of sense under that lens. Clearly McD would prefer to have more options in a future draft where he had his people in place all year, and a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the roster. So if anything, it's a little unlucky Mahomes entered the draft when he did. The other part we're forgetting is Andy Reid. He has a history of making QBs look fantastic. Maybe Mahomes would have been good anywhere, but he definitely has a much better shot at being great studying under Reid for a year and then starting on one of the best offensive rosters in the league, coached by one of the best offensive minds. McD is a defensive coach. We're going to judge him based on wins and losses but it isn't surprising he came in wanting to fix the defense first, so we could at least be competitive. That ball hawking D also carried us to our first playoff berth in 437 years, so there's that. I can't defend all his moves, and in isolation Allen over Mahomes looks bad, but there was sound reasoning behind what McD did IMO (even if the execution was perhaps a little off). Point is there's reason to trust what he's building. And yes, they are building something with Allen, Tre, and Edmunds. -
My Love/Hate Relationship with the Bills, Fans & Allen - Rant

So for starters...Obviously you take Mahomes and the picks over Allen and Tre. Anyone voting otherwise is a complete homer who's lost all objectivity. McDermott not pleased with WRs in practice
VW82 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good for Sean. I admit to questioning him hard after all the off season decisions, naming Peterman starter and subsequent benching, Leslie Frazier, Vontae Davis, etc. He seems to have righted the ship somewhat. We have arguably the worst QB and WR combo in the NFL. Some of that can be chalked up to youth, but you're not going to get better by dogging it in practice like Allen and Ray Ray did in that clip. -
Why are Packers making Rodgers play on a shredded knee? Looks painful.

Opposing defenses will adjust to Allen going forward
VW82 replied to TigerJ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we already saw one of the adjustments Vikings made in the second half in playing cover two with various five man delayed blitz packages. This is what I'd do against Allen. We don't really have an imposing running game, so no need for defenses to keep an extra safety in the box. Plus, Allen has shown some weakness in diagnosing coverage, extra rushers, and being consistently accurate. You make him beat you by finding receivers in the gaps for 5--7 gains all the way up the field. -
Fumble vs Forward pass/incomplete
VW82 replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well then it's a crappy play design because too much can go wrong trying to float the ball in mid air like that with a receiver running full tilt in between the center and QB as the ball is being snapped. There's just too little room to work with. Catch it and hand it off. Simple. -
Message boards can be tough places for women. I can understand if she just got fed up with it. Too bad she was a terrific poster.

Well congratulations Shaw (and really to all Bills fans) on predicting the emergence of HOF Allen. He looked like white Cam Newton out there in the first half. What a competitor! I stand by my reservations about the accuracy and football IQ stuff, but man is he impressive when he's on. On a somewhat unrelated note, any idea what happened to Wyo from the old BBMB? She used to post a lot back in the early to mid 00s when I was a little more active (under a different username). I'd be curious to get her take on our wonder boy given she probably saw him a bit in college too. Doesn't seem like too many of the "old guard" found their way over here though I haven't been active in years so maybe they're like me and just changed names. Cheers!

Fumble vs Forward pass/incomplete
VW82 replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it should have been ruled a forward pass, but whatever it was Allen needs to stop doing it. He's tried that little volleyball set move a few times now and it looks like it's going to be a problem every time he does it. In a way I'm glad the refs ruled it as a fumble so the coaching staff has more ammo to convince Allen it's the wrong way to execute that play. -
In fairness Minny's run D is pretty solid even with the injuries. That said, we desperately need a new center. The toughness in this group is sorely lacking.
-
The early turnovers and short field position definitely helped the first half scoreboard. That said, Allen was much better than at any point during the preseason or through the first two weeks. He consistently made plays, both with his legs and his arm, some of which were downright spectacular. Our receivers didn't do him any favours with all those drops. Daboll/McD took their foot off the gas in the second half so his numbers weren't as impressive as they could have been. Now for the bad. He had one dropped INT in the first quarter and three fumbles, all of which we were lucky to recover. He's still sloppy with the football trying to do too much. He's still slow going through his progressions. He still has no idea what's coming from the defense pre-snap. Romo called him out for this a couple of times during the game.

[Name Only Title] Jerry Hughes........
VW82 replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Best player on the field today by far. -
Said this in the game thread but he had four turnovers this game that didn't result in actual turnovers due to sheer dumb luck: dropped INT in the 1st Q + three fumbles we recovered. Kid was much better but he still has a long ways to go.

Bills vs. Vikings 2nd Half Game Day Thread
VW82 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen needs to be a little more careful with the football. So far today he has three fumbles and one dropped INT. On another day that could have been four turnovers and a very different scoreboard. -
It's not just the play calling though. It's that this team was a circus the first two weeks with the benchings, and the Davis retirement, and former players taking shots in the media. McD clearly got these guys unified and ready to play. This is a statement against one of the better defenses in the league. Buffalo isn't going to fold, and McD isn't going anywhere.

So umm...Allen is basically white Cam Newton in this game. Unreal. -
It finally hit me who Trent Murphy reminds me of....

Predict Josh Allen's stats v the Vikings
VW82 replied to FeelingOnYouboty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As long as he's better than 15/31 for 169 and 2 picks and doesn't look like Sammy Darnold I'm satisfied. -
TNF: Jets @ Browns (TT vs Darnold)
VW82 replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So we back to saying Jets suck now? I say yes. They just lost to a team that was 1-32-1. Also, if they wind up with first overall pick should they take Bosa or that QB for Oregon? -
Browns are going to the playoffs

Browns are going to the playoffs
VW82 replied to Seanbillsfan2206's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would just like to point out that Browns covered ? This really couldn't have gone any better for them unless Hue Jackson had retired at halftime.
