It would be nice to see a few less designed QB runs. I like my rookie QB with his head attached thank you very much! Also, here's hoping Tremaine Edmunds spends a little extra time in the film room this week. That Chargers tape will be all over the NFL. Just run a crossing route and TE has no idea what to do.

we got the wrong coach, go get jim harbaugh

Yeah if anything Beane looks worse, but because we hired McD first and he was part of bringing Beane in the buck stops with McD. -

Not sure about Harbaugh, but McD isn't looking so good right now. Lots of big picture problems with the team and a bunch of highly questionable decisions from him that have predictably backfired. Hopefully he can regroup. -
Did Vontae Davis retire at halftime? Yes, yes he did!

This team is on the verge of becoming a circus. Peterman benched game one, Leslie Fraizer getting benched in game two, Davis quitting the team in the middle of a game. At some point you have to look at the man in charge. This is quickly turning into a pivotal moment for McD. -
So...to clarify, you said a few years and bolded the years part. I take that to mean at least three. One is one. Couple is two. Few is three or more. I think Allen will get this season plus the off season plus training camp. If he hasn't shown significant improvement by that point, I could see us going in a different direction. If he's improving and trending in the right direction he'll get some to all of next year too. I agree his leadership and the fact he was able to bounce back after some particularly ugly low points were the highlights of his day. He needs to show more than that though. A lot more. Hope he will. Cheering for this team would be a lot more fun if Allen turns into a franchise guy.

[Edited Title] Patrick Mahomes Looks Great
VW82 replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was immediately suspicious when Reid (who's an excellent judge of QB talent) took Mahomes, and I didn't like the Allen pick. Nothing I've seen so far would suggest those initial reactions were wrong. That said, this thread this way premature. -
Also, people are giving Allen way too much of a pass on the protection issues. His inability to identify where the rush is coming from pre-snap is what leads to all these protection issues in the first place. Did our o line get beat one on one at points throughout the game? Yes. But there were just as many times where we were obviously overloaded to one side and Allen didn't recognize it. He needs to either shift the line or pull the TE or RB to help shore up that side, and when they come with the delayed blitz he needs to see that and go to his hot read. Beuerline was ALL OVER THIS throughout the game. Do people just think he was being biased? Forget the accuracy issues, of which there were plenty. We're dead on half the plays before we even snap the ball.

I'm afraid the days of developing a QB for years before making a determination are over. No one does that anymore which is why it was such a bad decision to throw Josh in there this early. He's going to get this season to show improvement. If he shows enough he'll get next season too, or at least most of it unless he's terrible. The issue is you can't afford to lose the locker room at the expense of developing a QB. They're important, but not THAT important. At some point a young QB needs to show he's worth it, and most guys only get a season or two now to do that.

McD took over defensive play calling in 2nd half
VW82 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So in the first two weeks McD's had to bench his hand picked QB and his DC. Hate to say it but he's looking more and more like a DC as appose to a HC. Can't blame all these bad hirings / decisions on the fact we're rebuilding. -
One thing I already like about Allen is his ability to bounce back. He makes two brutal throws in the first half on that Murphy crossing route and then over throwing Jones I believe over the top. Then we get the unsportsmanlike and he makes a great throw on the corner comeback route to Clay. Then in the second half he throws that back breaking pick to seal the game, but still comes back for a nice garbage time TD drive. Lots of young QBs (*cough* Peterman) would get down and not be able to bounce back quickly from that stuff.

Beuerlein is a really good colour guy. He's all over our protection issues and the reasons why they're happening. Always like the ex QBs who actually give Xs and Os insight. Edit: for those in this thread calling Beuerlein biased against Allen and Bills, he was on record as saying Allen was the top QB prospect coming into the draft. If anything, he has a vested professional interest in defending that take.
