Anyone else here going through "The Calmness?"
VW82 replied to We'reWalking's topic in The Stadium Wall
Otherwise known as the "we have Josh"ness. Whatever happens, it's going to be ok. -
That is such a bad comparison. Their route running abilities are nothing alike. They don't even play the same position. Yes, Kincaid has been downfield more and him and Josh have missed more. A lot of that is Josh throwing hopes and prayers to him on failed plays. It's too sss. Edit: you want to criticize his run blocking? Be my guest. Kincaid still looks the part of a quality receiver and the fact we haven't been more successful with him in that role is a blame pie not an indictment of Kincaid specifically.

I'd love to see this followed up on by someone if they have them handy. Also, HappyDays is just flat wrong about the variance comment. In-season numbers can carry a tremendous amount of variance. Even just looking at last year vs. this year we see Dalton's catch% going from 80% to 58% despite having an entire extra off season to work out any issues re "not being where Allen expects him to be be." NBA players demonstrate tremendous variance in 3FG% as an example over small samples < 100 attempts, and they do not have to worry, usually, about being tackled. Yet, we think we shouldn't see such variance despite additional variables over relatively small sample sizes in NFL receptions. Doesn't make a lot of intuitive sense. And just to add to previous points, Knox went from Y/R of 8.5 last year to 14.1 this year (66% increase). Is that because their "chemistry" dramatically improved downfield finally in year 6? Knox is now finally exactly "where Allen expects him to be be." No - there are surely other things going on here. Some of the inconsistency is clearly on Kincaid, but he's been way above average in the passing game this season. His issue is that he's not so great in the running game - our bread and butter - and so he's ineffective on a greater percentage of plays than he would've been in Dorsey/Daboll's system, and there have unfortunately been some misses (some on him, some on Josh) which have skewed the numbers and would likely correct pretty dramatically over larger samples. /rant

Once we switched to Brady’s run heavy scheme, Kincaid’s fate was somewhat sealed imo. Knox is a better fit. Have to wonder if we wind up looking to trade Kincaid in the off season.

Michael Jordan and Josh Allen Share Similar Path?
VW82 replied to Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Love this comparison. Their trajectory toward best player in the league - getting to #1 well before public acknowledged it, losing to the same team in the playoffs - is eerily similar! MJ was a much better player at an earlier stage than Josh though. -
How much time have you spent thinking about this game.
VW82 replied to Stroke 17's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not much, honestly. Like, we can't lose 4x in a row (playoffs) to these guys. Won't happen. We did lose four SBs in a row though...but we also didn't have Josh Allen. Josh > Jimbo at this point..but we did have Josh in the previous three so I guess that nuffilies it...but our Oline is definitely much better than it was the previous three games...We'll be able to run the ball this time around...way more balanced attack...And we don't have AJ Freaking Klein covering middle of the field lol...But we didn't have AJ back there in 2021 either and still lost....But they also no longer have Tyreke and Kelce is getting older...Bernard should be able to do the job....Need our banged up secondary to hold...Milano is a good blitzer so he'll help there...but is his hammy ok?...hope so...Dorian is a good change of pace if he isn't...need to watch for Worthy on those bubble screens...bet Keon outplays Worthy though...we picked the right WR this time...need another good one in the draft...that won't help us this game though...but that's ok because Josh got this and Josh > Mahomes at this point... Anyone have a Xanax? -
McDermott respects Reid, but I’m not sure the feeling is mutual.
VW82 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall
Pretty sus as the kids would say. McD was part of Reid’s staff and he’s gone on to have lots of success. More likely Reid feels some pride about that. Lots of mutual respect in all likelihood. -

Fair enough about Pacheco. He hasn't exactly lit it up since returning, and losing Rice was obviously the biggest issue which was never resolved. But I look at their receiver group a little like ours. Trading for Hopkins and getting Brown back moved guys closer to their natural spots much like trading for Cooper and getting Shakir/Kincaid/Coleman healthy helped get our guys back to roles more suited to talents (see Mack Hollins). It's less about one guy than a functioning offense. I look at someone like Worthy. He's not much more than a (dangerous) gadget guy at this stage. He had to be a bigger part of their season due to injuries and wasn't good but now he's back in a role where he can hurt us. I still like our chances but some posters seemed a little overly confident about the likelihood of us holding down their O despite the history and all our injuries on D, hence my post. -

KC has been injured on offense all year and now they're healthy. Pacheco only played in 8 games including playoffs. Brown only played in 3. Hopkins 11. Kelce is a different animal in the playoffs. This QB/coach deserves some benefit of the doubt given what they've achieved to this point even if their offense has only been good enough this year. Discounting the Chiefs after everything they've done to our defense over the years seems way overly confident. -

Part of the issue with these injuries is our secondary was already arguably underperforming. Here were Joe B's grades from the Ravens game. FWIW Cole Bishop graded out as a B but his inexperience adds some questions as well. Somehow we need to get home on some blitzes. -

I think this game will come down to our injuries on D and our in/ability to cover for them. Josh will figure out how to score points even if we can't run it. But if Benford can't go or isn't 100% and Milano is a step slow with the hammy, we're in trouble. People thinking Mahomes won't shred our back ups because he hasn't done that as much this year are fooling themselves. Chiefs are dangerous on O. We can win another Rams or Lions game but our best bet is with a healthyish D finally standing up to these guys in the playoffs. Fingers crossed for Benford, Milano, Bishop, and Taron. That's a lot of question marks. -
Not going to lie, these are scary af injuries. Rest up, boys.

All this talk about lack of separation in passing game
VW82 replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm fine with looking to solve some of this in the draft with one of our top 3 picks, but DL has to be our focus. Also, it's probably time for the "Josh doesn't have enough weapons" "need to spread the field" group to take the L. Brady is our OC and it's working. We're a balanced offense now with the run game. WRs need to be dual threats blocking as well as receiving. Sometimes you sacrifice with separation for that. Any new higher value draft capital used toward WR needs to done with that in mind, so it could just be another Coleman (which is ok btw). -
He's still useful as a mismatch receiving TE but as others have said he isn't the best fit as an every down player in our run packages that we love so much. It'll be interesting to see what we do as far as extension when the time comes. In the meantime, I doubt we cut Knox, cap savings or not.
-
Have we discussed whether this current stretch by Brown is the best by a Bills RT in franchise history? I think it needs to be considered. Other candidates: Ballard (pick your year) Peters (that first year before he moved to LT) Big Mike (lol) Anyone I'm forgetting?
-
Or maybe he watched tape of Hamlin not being able to cover all year and knew he had a better than average chance and made a great throw...who can say?...but according to some you'd be the only one on the internet making that kind of argument. Bad Lamar. Bad.
-
I don't know about unanimous MVP but Josh probably should've been MVP. Of course the turnovers are part of it. But to the same point that Bills didn't win games in 2023 despite Josh's turnovers, the Ravens didn't lose or wouldn't have won or whatever despite Lamar's turnovers. At some point, a guy makes enough briliant plays over the course of a game that he renders said turnovers to be a minor point in consideration of his overall brilliance. No one should understand that better than Bills fans!
-
Ok well I disagree. I'm quite certain posters are trashing Lamar to prop up Allen. Having Henry definitely helped the Ravens. I'd argue Lamar improved as a passer for some of the same reasons Josh improved as a passer; mainly, he's a little older, a little more experienced, and is in the prime of his career. Once again, we're taking credit away from a great player. Why is that? See first point.
-
I still have issue with the framing here. If it had been all Henry or great catches on poorly placed balls or trick plays or, or...that helped Ravens get back in it and won then sure. But it was Lamar's brilliance before and after those turnovers that kept them in it. He was EASILY the best player in the game outside of his two turnovers .
