10/20/24 Game 7 GAMEDAY Bills vs Titans 2nd half thread
VW82 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can anyone explain why we always look so bad in the first half but then so much better in the second half? Is it entirely coaching? Like, we're terrible anticipators but very good adjustors?? -

219 to 90 yards gained from scrimmage. Unreal. We're just flat out bad on both sides of the ball right now. -

Announcers are acting like it's going to be a problem if Pollard can't come back. Titans could run on us with guys off the street rn. -

D is in tough vs this vaunted Titans offense. -
I wonder how many snaps he's going to get on the boundary (i.e. where Keon has been lining up), and also if we start to spread Keon around a little more. I'd imagine that's where this goes eventually even if not as much this game. You don't get Cooper if you don't intend to use him out there.
-
Keon has a bright future but I do wonder if some around these parts aren’t setting themselves up for disappointment in the short-term. Prevailing sentiment seems to be Keon will continue as the x and Amari will be the z with Hollins going to the bench. I’m not so sure. McD favours veterans. I’d imagine Keon will see his snap count reduced somewhat before he eventually earns them all back (maybe as soon as later this season). He’ll probably continue to start as the x, just with perhaps fewer opportunities in the short-term. That’s my expectation anyways. Edit: I know that’s not really addressing the point of the thread, but I think it’s relevant and something few are discussing.

The difference between the Bills and Chiefs is Chris Jones.

I'd like to see us with all our pass rushers healthy and playing well late in the season. Our pass rush is underrated imo. The bigger issue is our size and scheme defending bigger teams. -
This kid is going to make some pro bowls and some people itt are going to eat some internet words. It's crazy that we still have doubters in this regime's ability to select and develop DBs.

See my reply to big turk a couple pages ago but re-signing Cooper to a market value contract (e.g. 18-20M AAV) will likely mean having to shed even more salary than we're already slated to or not giving out extensions, etc. Like it or not, we're still on a cap cutting trend for one more year. Edit: and in truth, my 18-20M projection is probably low if Cooper is who we hope he'll be on this team.
-
I kinda hope we don't do that. I might be in the minority here, but it felt like injuries and some really bad coaching exacerbated the WR issues these last three games. With Kincaid, Cook, and Shakir healthy, the offense wasn't that bad, and it remains to be seen what Samuel might give us if/when he finally recovers from the turf toe. We might be one more good WR draft pick away from a balanced offense even without Cooper. I like the trade because we're arguably close with Cooper now but we still have one more year of shedding salary to complete the cap rebuild, so even if we're close now we probably won't be as close next year. We'd have to win the SB this year with Cooper being the main offensive weapon that unlocked the offense to justify materially weakening other areas of the roster. Just my 2c.
-
Because realistically he's going to get 18-20M AAV if he's even remotely close to what he's been the last two years. Mike Evans just got 2/41 as an example. Yes, Diggs is coming off the books but Josh is about to go from a 30M cap hit to 45M and then 60M in 26, and we can't just keep kicking that can down the road forever. At some point, Josh needs to start getting paid market rates. He's earned that. We also have guys like Knox, Dion, McGovern, Oliver, Rousseau, Jones, and Milano slated for big cap increases. We can look to restructure contracts again, and so maybe we can afford another 10M WR, but 18-20M is really pushing it given our cap issues.
-
Agreed. Most likely this is just a rental, and through that lens it's a steep price. OTOH, if we didn't trade for someone of quality then we'd likely have been going through the motions until our eventual first or second round exit. At least this gives us a chance. Also, we still have that Vikings pick (i.e. three top 60) to shore up the WR room if/when Amari walks for a Mike Evans-esk deal.
-
Steep price for a 30 year old rental having a down year but we needed this. Good job, Beane! I'm going to assume Amari's drop issues this year (17% according to PFR!) are a fluke given he's been pretty good on high volume over his career. Josh throws bullets so no more pretend pass catchers, please.

I legit thought the game was rigged until the 4th quarter when it became clear the officiating was just out of control in every direction. Hard to play a game like that.

Some of this is Josh is only 21st in passing attempts, and yes, he’s had some dropped INTs. He’s also leading the league in QBR…again. Stud.
