I'm still somewhat miffed about the reaction to this pick. Who specifically did we not pick who was going to immediately solve our problem at MLB? Maybe I'm missing someone.
We took a very productive player who was the best player on a good defense and who has a tantalizing athletic profile. Sometimes small school guys have untapped upside. We have a pretty good coaching staff when it comes to teaching coverage skills. And so much of picking prospects is about the quality of the individual and how much they want it. None of you guys were in the meetings or know this kid personally, I presume. You don't know that he won't be a super productive player for us in a year's time.

Exactly.
Otherwise ...
Our LBers could have sucked if we hadn't elected to bolster our depth so maybe we should put a little trust in McD who has demonstrated a history of knowing what he's doing on that side of the ball.

Another small front 7 player... Why is that Beane's obsession?
Because it's really McD's obsession.

Klein will start but I agree with the thinking that it could be Milano with Williams outside by mid season. If these guys can actually make it a battle of a lifetime maybe we won't be as screwed as everyone thinks.

But it makes no sense. He basically just said we drafted a back up linebacker who can play teams.
Would be good for the 5th round value, but not 3rd
I'm not sold on Bernard. If Williams beats him out at WLB then this is good value. We need more youth on our defense and linebackers who can cover is something McD really values. Teams is the bonus not the main purpose imo.

Automatic F minus for this pick JFC never let this bozo draft another LB
C'mon. We needed OLB who can cover too. Matt gets hurt sometimes and it isn't clear that Bernard is all that good. It's better than reaching.

We needed a MLB but we also needed guys who can cover. This kid looks like he might be able to not get smoked by TEs. Check.
We're still depending way too much on AJ which is scary. Maybe Willaims will be an every down guy by mid season.

This is what winning on draft day feels like.

Thank God. A very large human who can move people. About time.

Beane seems to see him as Big Beasley. If they use him as a WR/TE hybrid then this pick will work great.
If they try playing classical 2 TE style though they’ll look dumb.
They won't keep him on the line but why wouldn't we mix in the odd 2 TE set with these guys? That's a look we haven't had.

Because Josh likes throwing to WRs and we don’t even use our 14 million dollar tight end enough
Kinkaid basically is a WR. Part of the reason we don't "use" Knox is because he isn't exactly our best option when split off the line. Also, we might find the offense gets tweeked to run more double TE sets which would help solve some of our OL protection issues just by virtue of more bodies being in there.
Either way, having more big guys who get open and catch everything isn't usually a bad thing.

One other thing I love about this pick is Josh needs receivers who can really catch, and that sounds rather obvious but our stud QB can make things difficult sometimes for his pass catchers. This kid is going to take that issue off the table. It makes Josh even better.

How can you not be pumped about the prospect of Allen and Kincaid lighting up the AFC for the next decade.
My impression is he's more WR than TE. We need to address OL. Hopefully, we can get someone good one day 2 because we need Josh to be upright to complete passes.

Most Bills fans would be happy to see Josh make a few more business decisions out there. Having said that, it'll be interesting to see what that looks like when the chips are down or things aren't going well. Josh's ability to run is what makes him special. He's going to need to make another leap as a pocket passer to get away from that run/pass threat without taking a big step down in overall effectiveness.
-
I can't be that mad. This team has been fraudulent most of the season, and especially since Josh hurt his elbow. We're too careless with the football. We still don't get a rush despite all those draft picks. Still can't run the ball or stop the run when it counts. Our Oline which is designed to pass block can't pass block...
And yet, we're not that far away despite how this one turned out.

Josh leading the league in turnovers really hurts his case. That and the fact that he's been legitimately average to subpar since the 4th quarter of the Packers game.

That's the only reason I can think of, especially if he is still getting numbing injections in his elbow before games. He has had poor control on passes within 10 yards today, the closer to the LOS the worse it looks. Those are the passes where the elbow is utilized more so it's certainly possible. Oh well. Shake it off, escape with a win, and hope for above freezing temperatures in Cincinnati.
He's bounced a couple of long ones too. Dead arm. Exactly like Carson Palmer was describing.
Are we almost at the point where we're better off on the road in the playoffs? Tell me the weather report and I'll answer.
-
Josh isn't there mentally today but he's been all over the place with his throws. I really think the cold weather is affecting his arm.

It's possible some of the Bills just have big bets on the Bears +9. We've had a lot of close wins where we don't cover lately. Just ask the Jets coach.
-
Quite the turn of events. Pre ACL Tre never would've let that happen. In double coverage no less.

Yeah, he was awful to start the year. You disagree?
He was a rookie who everyone piled on. It was dumb.

Why is it that every time Morse doesn't play we have a crazy good running game? Hmm....

RD 3, Pick 91: LB Dorian Williams, Tulane
in The Stadium Wall

Totally reasonable take. My argument wasn't that no one was better, just that I didn't see a starting MLB.
Not saying this is what happened but I have no issue with a FO admitting defeat on a guy and drafting his replacement/competition right away. Williams is raw so I don't expect he'll be playing much initally. Either way, we needed more talent at LB with the loss of Edmonds. This solves that even if the fit isn't perfect and we might have to wait a bit for the payoff.
