At least Hardy could cover people but supposedly we have too many of those players -

OMG Keon -
We're very weak interior Dline minus Carter. So important we get out to early leads next few weeks. Hopefully, Daquan and Ed are up for playing lots and lots.

This goes back to my complaint over the summer that we really only had four NFL-quality DT on the roster for camp. No one wanted to hear about that because receiver, receiver, receiver,...but here we are with only three left for the toughest part of our schedule. I guess the idea is Smoot or Rousseau will be playing inside on 3rd downs??

So why was Amari Cooper traded twice in his prime?
VW82 replied to PoundingDog's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not "lend(ing) credence" to the idea that "teams couldn't wait to get rid of him." I never said anything close to that. I said Amari wasn't a star player which made him easier to trade away, or put another way, the fact that he was traded twice in his prime is evidence that he wasn't a true star. And yeah, Lofton wasn't a star anymore when he was traded to the Bills. He was coming off two very pedestrian seasons with the Raiders, and IIRC his first year here wasn't anything to write home about either. So three non-star/prime seasons in a row before he found his place in the k-gun in his mid-30s. Packers Lofton was a star. Comparing Amari with Randy Moss seems like a stretch in any sense, but it's especially dubious given Moss got traded for being a malcontent whereas Cooper has always been a good solider despite having occasional performance issues (e.g. production/drop issues at the end of both Raiders and Browns tenures). We do agree about Cooper's presence helping everyone else in the offense though per your last paragraph. -

Yes, Lofton and Moss were superstars, but Lofton wasn't traded in his prime and Moss was a malcontent. Not the same situations. I'd say your expectations are a little high. If Amari can make another pro bowl here as Lofton did, that would be amazing. I'm not expecting that. Kincaid is the "star" of this receiving group, but we lacked balance with Keon's inexperience and whatever we were getting from Mack/MVS/Samuel. Amari provides balance. I think what we're going to see is exactly what was advertized in camp: everyone eats. Kincaid, Shakir, Cook, and Keon's receiving production will improve as a result because the defense now has to guard all areas of the field. -

I agree that normally five pro bowls would indicate that a player is a star. His draft position is also evidence of that. But I never felt like he was top 5 at his position, maybe in terms of production but not impact. You might accuse me of splitting hairs here, but I always felt like he topped out at really good instead of great, and again - to OP's point - he got traded twice in his prime. Given Amari hasn't had any major injuries and is the furthest thing from a malcontent, this is an inconvenient fact for the "Amari was GREAT" camp. In any event, he's not as good as he was anymore, and we don't need him to be that. We just need a professional that's competent who can beat one on one coverage on the outside and knows how to create space for teammates. He can still do those things and so he's still valuable to us. -

Oakland traded him because his production fell off a cliff and he was struggling with drops. Dallas traded him because he was expensive and they needed cap relief. Amari is a good but not great receiver. He isn't a star, which means he's the kind of player that teams want and teams are willing to get rid of. -
Rousseau might be the best player on the team so far this year. Josh is easiy the MVP because of the position he plays, but Greg is having a career year. Re-sign this guy. He's a stud rushing from the left side.
-
Lamar has been the best player so far. Playoffs will probably be a different story but that's not what the MVP is. Long ways to go and Josh is still +650 on Fanduel for anyone interested. That's easily the best value on the board. Edit: CJ Stroud +2000 is a nice flyer too.

Why is Nobody Talking About Mahomes' Interceptions this Season?
VW82 replied to ROCBillsBeliever's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not what I meant and you know that. The coaching advantage is obviously massive but only might be massive enough to make up for the pretty clear and obvious talent advantage we've had over the last couple years and even this season. Should I assume because you replied in this way that you think we haven't had better skill position players last year and this year? I don't think you'd get much support for that outside of this forum. -

I don't think one can make that argument in good faith unless we're giving Mahomes some massive coaching advantage (which might be true). -

I really dislike these kinds of arguments. They're never made in good faith. Not only is Mahomes the best player in the league, and has been for half a decade, but he's still playing well this year given circumstances. Chiefs lost Brown, Rice, Pacheco, and Kelce has obviously lost a step. They're winning because of defense, and because every week Mahomes manufactures just enough on offense without a lot of help. This doesn't take anything away from Josh who has been the second best player in the league for nearly half a decade and who has also been great this year without much help. Aikman doesn't like Josh because he fundamentally sees the game differently. Pretty much everyone else appreciates Josh's greatness. There is no widespread media narrative with these two that's way off the mark. -
Even Hardy looked like he could play in camp. I wouldn't be shocked if he made the roster at some point. Epic draft class in terms of depth.

The contrast is really crazy. We seem to need not only to be punched in the mouth but knocked down a few times before we start fighting. Some of it is obviously play calling. Our initial game plans suck every week, and then we make good adjustments...usually. I also think, at least defensively, we're built to play with a lead. Biggest problem to start games is stopping the run. We've been better in second half of games where we've taken the lead and then pressured opposing QBs.

Can anyone explain why we always look so bad in the first half but then so much better in the second half? Is it entirely coaching? Like, we're terrible anticipators but very good adjustors?? -
