  1. If I'm Beane, I'm NOT picking us that option. He has simply not demonstrated the ability to get to the QB consistently despite pretty extensive playing time. He's solid, but DE's who don't produce sacks are not coveted on the open market. If he maintains his current level or even jumps to SIX sacks, we're talking about a player that can easily be retained at a team friendly rate. If he busts out and puts up double digit sacks, good for him and the 2019 Bills. Does ANYONE expect that? Roll the dice and make him earn it.
  2. That's why I distinguish Singletary from Knox. Phillip Lindsey was a UDFA! Guys that weren't even drafted seem to come around often enough that expending a 3rd on a RB means you think he's "special." As far as Knox, you must consider that we spent a 3rd AND a 4th to acquire his services. He should also come with big expectations. I don't love the picks, but they will have every opportunity to prove the skeptics wrong. If Oliver and Ford are both perennial all pro's, it'll be somewhat overlooked. Still, I think the success of the 2019 draft will largely hinge on these players. We NEED playmakers.
  3. That's what I find kind of odd about our third round picks. They seem to be viewed here as "fliers." They're not. When you draft a running back in the third round and he's not a big contributor, it's BAD. When you draft a TE in the third round and he's not a contributor, it's pretty bad. When you draft a TE or a RB in the 6th and they do nothing, meh. No biggie. Singletary and Knox should be EXPECTED to produce. The third round is no time for fliers.
  4. Not as bad as weird, unnecessary s's thrown onto random words. "I planned on going to Tops's to bring some spinach dip to the tailgates's for the Jets's game, but I got about 8 textes warning me that there were reports of spinach based foods poisoning."
  5. No. He doesn't have the strength or the pass rush skills to fill the position Zo plays for the Bills. He had 4 sacks in 3 years at Florida. He's strictly a WLB who's best in space. Darryl Johnson has a much better chance of playing LB on the strong side in a Zo role.
  6. With our defense and lack of elite offensive personnel, I'm taking Tyrod every day of the week. Heck, he lead them to 9 wins with that gutted 2017 roster. Both Fitz and Barkley would put up better numbers(with a lot more turnovers), but Tyrod would lead them to the most wins.
  7. Star was graded as the 100th rated defensive lineman by PFF. That's pretty bad. They do a "decent" job of breaking down film and attempting to decipher assignment. I know PFF is for losers, but I put some stock in that type of indictment. For comparison, Poe was rated as the 69th rated DL without putting up numbers. Maybe it's a biased judgment considering he was the least "productive" defensive lineman in the ENTIRE league based on snap count. Either way, he's going to be playing a lot this year and I don't think he's a liability as much as he's just not an asset. The contract is irrelevant as he'll be cut by the time the cap becomes an issue.
  8. Not sure why you'd feel the need to include rushing TD's there Senator. Pretty sure they didn't use DK much out of the backfield or on reverses. Not his niche. I wanted Metcalf, but I'll get over it.
  9. Not a huge fan of the pick, but love that aspect. NONE of our RB's are very good in the RZ. Shady for obvious reasons and Gore/Yeldon for reasons unbeknownst to me. Kind of like Marshawn being a relatively poor goal to go touchdown producer. This kid definitely seems to have a nose for the plane. I'll give him that much. I did.
  10. That's a possibility and would certainly change things. They could decide on a game by game basis if they wanted to activate Kroft/Knox/Croom or Kroft/Knox/Sweeney. Also opens up the possibility that they keep Fisher and still PS Sweeney. My HUNCH is that with all the improvements they made at OL and the receiving core still somewhat lacking, they will be more inclined to go with "receivers." We shall see!
  11. I guess I could see it going that way. TBH, I'm not a big fan of the Knox pick and I'm not even sure he'll be better than Croom. Then you've got the Croom personal situation. Also, isn't Kroft a very solid inline blocker? If I had to guess, I would stick with Kroft, Knox and Croom being the top 3 with Sweeney on the practice squad because of practicality. But you raise a good point about the similarities between Croom and Knox.
  12. The reason I disagree with this is because we have a chance to really put something together for the next two seasons and this is the no QB contract window. Why not go into this season with a DOMINANT defensive line? Let's say the offense doesn't improve as much as we'd like; if you've got a dominant front four, that can mask offensive deficiencies. We had a good to very good defense last season. Imagine one able to impose their will. You eliminate blowouts like at the Ravens and at the Colts. The Bears game was odd in that they didn't rack up a ton of yards, but we STILL couldn't get stops in the red zone. A dominant front four is not going to rank near the bottom of the league in RZ defense and turnovers. It's gonna shoot to the top. I can see the rationale in putting it off for a season, but I'd like to think we're in win now mode. Agree that Murphy won't be part of the plan, but I also have no faith in Lawson. He's an edge setter and a 3-4 DE. We've already got Star "taking up space." You upgrade that end position opposite Hughes and it's potentially lights out for opposing QB's.
  13. 7-9 with a home playoff win. The 2010 Seahawks are the benchmark.
  14. I have no idea whether you're saying you don't like the pick or that you believe it would be normal for a 3rd round RB to not see pretty extensive PT. I think we'll see quite a bit of Singletary, but if we don't, something went wrong.
  15. He's on the wrong side of 30, which is why I'd love to trade for Clowney. That would give us the flexibility to pass on Hughes if the price tag is too high. As far as I'm concerned, even Hughes is not enough. I think they need to sign Ansah or make a move. This indeed remains an area of concern going into next season. Oliver was a great pick and I believe he will bring heat from the interior. I'm not convinced there will be enough pressure coming from the edge. A stout defense is nice, but a defense wreaking havoc on the QB is the best way to create turnovers and turn 2nd and 6 into 3rd and 16.
  16. I understand that Zay is not a speed receiver, but did you ever focus on his go routes? He looked like an all pro corner! It was painful to watch. This was early in the season before Foster emerged and late in the season after Foster emerged. I just don't believe he does anything well enough to make up for that lack of separation. There's poor separation and there's Zay running a 9. At any rate, Daboll should definitely ditch that. He's never going to draw a safety and he's never going to beat a corner. With the addition of Brown, I hope I never have to see that again if he is indeed part of their future plans.
  17. Yeah. What's being suggested is a 3rd and a 5th for Clowney. The Texans may not even take Murphy or Shaq as part of any deal. Gonna take AT LEAST a second and more likely a first. I wouldn't be opposed to giving up a first NEXT YEAR for a premier young player at a position of need. Imagine a front four with Clowney, Hughes, and Oliver? Many an uncomfortable day for opposing QB's. If things go according to plan, we're talking about a pick in the 20's.
  18. What about trying McKenzie out in a Kamara type role? We've already seen his effectiveness on jet sweeps. He's got the initial burst you like to see out of the backfield. Sort of a long term idea considering Singletary's primary deficiency appears to be as a receiver.
  19. How could we forget when it's brought up every time a receiver has a ho-hum first two seasons? Also, that was a LONG time ago. It was commonplace for receivers to struggle getting off the line and earning playing time. In Moulds case, he curiously found himself in Levy's doghouse so he rarely saw the field. As college and pro offenses have merged, the learning curve for receivers has dropped precipitously.
  20. Jackson scored a 25. It's not great, but it's far from disqualifying. Had to be much more to it than that.
  21. Interesting read. He didn't put up great numbers as a receiver in 2016/2017, but he did catch 19 and 26 passes respectively with a modest YPC. The 6 receptions is an eye opener, but this is a reasonable explanation.
  22. This was a really solid pick. We have a stable of backup linebackers who all generally play near the L.O.S.; old school types. They needed a developmental guy with the athleticism to drop into coverage. Depth was not good at LB.
  23. I like that comp. They have a very similar running style. What I'd like to see is DS develop the type of receiving skills as a Westbrook. It's just really odd how infrequently Devin was used as an outlet out of the backfield. Let's just hope is was either by design or something that can be improved with experience.
  24. I'll continue the trend and say that YOU are a quality poster; however, it's entirely possible that Arizona would have done the same thing with Allen. Kingsbury was in love with Murray and believes he's a perfect fit for his offense. He may very well have felt Allen wasn't a great fit. There's no way to know so it's all speculation at this point. The Bills have organizational stability and fully believe Allen is their guy. That's the most important thing.
