  1. I still can't figure out why people think Harrison Phillips is some kind of Kyle clone. Because they have the same shaped head? I've seen very little from H. Phillips to make me think he's anything more than a rotational DT. He could be Tim Anderson for all I know. Next year will be critical in his evaluation process. DT's don't take years to develop. We needed a difference maker before Kyle's decision and that need is even greater now. I will say the need at DT is greatly diminshed if we're able to add a high caliber edge player. Need playmaking defensive lineman one way or another.
  2. This is what I've been saying all along. Josh's problem is not accuracy as much as it is finding the correct target. The hope is that better recognition will come with experience.
  3. It was fine. Bills fans would be celebrating had we signed this player to this deal. It is what it is.
  4. We've generally done well against the game manager types like Fiedler, but it's gonna hurt not having Milano to bottle up the short stuff to McDuffie and Gadsden. Just hoping Hughes can generate some pressure against Richmond Webb because Fiedler will fold if we can hit him early.
  5. This is a silly question. The answer is yes. The problem is PAYING a QB big money doesn't guarantee great play.
  6. Cook would be a great addition. Are you sure it's not Boy Wonder? I guess it works either way.
  7. We need a rep point for too poetic/romantic of a thread title, especially when we're talking about a defensive tackle.
  8. They're gonna have to come up with a home run pick at WR this year to make up for the Zay Jones debacle.(Yes, yes, I know. Beane wasn't here!!!!!! Beane is great, etc. etc.) That pick really looks like a killer considering the other available WR's. When your plan is to gut the roster and build through the draft, you damn well better draft well. That's kind of the deal. Of course the team that does it best got JuJu and we got Zay.
  9. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Ray Ray won't be good. I have no idea if St. Brown will become a legit WR, but he's got a much better chance than Austin McCloud. Beane has to have a better offensive draft in 2019 than he did in 2018 or he may not be making selections in 2020.
  10. Milano occasionally gets eaten up against the run once engaged with a blocker, but he's also one of the few guys capable of making TFL's and creating big plays. I'm not as concerned with our LB play as I am with the front four. If it were up to me, we'd move Edmunds outside(as you said) and bring in a run stuffing MLB. I'd also make one heavy investment in an impact defensive lineman. The RZ defense isn't quite as simple as teams running the ball down our throats IMO. We just don't have enough guys that come up with that TFL or sack to put the offense in negative down and distance. Edmunds could be that guy on the outside, but I'd also like to see them add one true stud. I'm not of the belief that the defense is "fine."
  11. Nah. I retired after High School. When you've reached the apex of your career, there's nowhere to go but down. It's been said I had the greatest breaking ball of all time. Kind of like the Mariano Rivera cutter but sustained through an entire game. Other team knew it was coming and still couldn't do anything with it. Ball wouldn't hit the surface until the last second rendering the opposing kicker useless.
  12. I can't find a list anywhere, but he seems to be in the 15-20 range as far as all time DT sack leaders. John Randle had 140! I know he was primarily a pass rushing DT, but that's crazy. I don't think Kyle is HOF worthy, but he certainly deserves to be honored by the team in every conceivable way.
  13. Remember when we woo'd impending FA Takeo Spikes to come to Buffalo in the season finale? We need to do the same here. I ? Brian Daboll signs better be peppered all over New Era Field or he's a goner.
  14. I don't know man. I like your optimism, but these guys so far have been better at imploding buildings than constructing new ones.
  15. Nah. Haven't actually heard Castillo's name mentioned for any job. That would indeed be something else.
  16. Line on the game should go up at least a point as the defense will be going all out. Man gets to make his own decision. Would have liked to see him back, but his quality of life is more important than football.
  17. Castillo's name has also been bandied about for the impending opening in Denver.
  18. The problem with that rationale is that we don't have an elite defense. We have a good defense. In order to become a Bears like defense, we need more playmakers in the front 7.
  19. I don't know if he's good or not because he's never had much to work with. I do know that he's never gotten results as an offensive coordinator. I'd be willing to bet 5k that he doesn't even get an interview for a HC vacancy unless Brett Favre gets a GM gig.
  20. I just can't get down with that line of thinking. You're not gonna blame Beane if Edmunds doesn't pan out because the linebacker class was "considered" a strength? He gets paid to make proper decisions and doesn't get mulligans because draftniks thought it was a great LB class. It's also prudent to draft premium positions if they grade out similarly to non premium positions. QB's, LT's, WR's, DE's and CB's should always take precedent. That doesn't mean you don't draft a guard or a safety if they happen to be superior 95% prospects. I'm sure the Colts are happy with their selection of Nelson. Nevertheless, it makes fiscal sense to get players at premium positions on rookie contracts.
  21. If you want to evaluate QB's irrespective of OL protection, it's cool to ignore the ball and watch the receivers. You'll notice that the top QB's almost always end up getting it to the best possible option.
  22. Dude, we're scoring 15 points a game with defenses specifically trying to prevent us from scoring points. Daboll has HC written all over him. I think we should consider making him an offer he can't refuse to stay on as OC. He's gonna get more offers than Gregg Williams.
  23. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. If Tre White is our best defensive player, Matt Milano is number 2. I would argue he's number 1, but I'll leave that alone.
