  1. This defense has no playmakers. If Satan himself could make some plays for this team, I would sign his hot, red ass.
  2. Trade for a "proven" LT? How many teams have one to spare? I agree that the Bills need one desperately, but they need to draft a stud in the first round and keep him for a long time. The Bills have had that opportunity and have passed on it. Speaking of tackles, our RT could stand an upgrade as well. An old Raider retread who looks to be just like the last Raider retread who played tackle for the Bills.
  3. Jeez, this is getting completely out of control. Is there a fundamental problem with the way the Bils and their preparation? At this rate, we'll be lucky to field any real playmakers for the first part of the season.
  4. I remember my first beer...
  5. Was in the Big Tree a few years ago with my brother. It was a Friday afternoon before the home opener and the place was dead. I heard a Harley pull up outside and he walked in with his full leathers on. I'm 6'4" and 210 pounds and must tell you I've never felt so small as when he bellied up to the bar. Always thought he was overrated as a player, but from all accounts, is one hell of a fine person. Kudos to him for this prestigious award.
  6. Spiiler wine and take that pearl
  7. Gotta' be good news for all interested in Spiller's signing--perhaps we won"t see the lengthy holdout that has been predicted by so many.
  8. Just re-signed for $179 for the year. Told them I have had the Ticket since 1995 (which is true) and that I was sick of the rising prices. I told them I wanted to cancel and the rep offered to take $50 off of price, I stuck to my guns, he offered to lower the total bill to $179, and I folded like a house of cards. As a long time Directv customer, I recommend threats as a way to get what you want...literally. A really good time to to get the good deals is when your current programming contract is about to expire...like Christmas, man.
  9. Funny how absence makes the heart grow fonder. Bills fans couldn"t wait to get rid of Wade ("Son Of Bum") and felt justified and/or vindicated when he was finally gone. I vividly remember all the talk about his refusal to wear headphones and his resemblance to an Alzheimer"s sufferer on the sidelines. Talk about superficial. The problem was that Bills fans were spoiled with success for around 15 years and Wade was seen as the benefactor of savvy management and was basically acting as a caretaker of the team. I always thought he got a bum (no pun intended) deal in Buffalo and the dismal performance of the team since his departure is not wholly coincidental. Exactly... One of the most overlooked stupid moves...Did not need to happen at all...He may not be the Best HC out there but he was more than fine for Buffalo...Give him the horses and he's going to win more then he loses...In 8 Years as a HC he's finished 9-7 or better 6 times...Plus The Bills Defenses under Wade were always formidable, especially at Home... Shoulda kept Ol' Wade...
  10. Anyone else noticed that Marshawn sounds like Doughboy from "Boyz In The Hood" in interviews? Probably end up like him, too.
  11. The number of punks on that list is staggering...even the quiet Marvin Harrison couldn't avoid legal trouble late in his career.
  12. Fellas, please spare me the "it's only preseason" excuse for the embarrassing performance by the Bills last night. Sure, even during the great years of the early '90's, the team lost plenty of exhibition games. The thing is, you always knew that once the real season started, they would play the way they were expected to--with grit and intelligence. What scares me about this current group is that the only reputation they have built is one of consistently poor play. This does not look to me like a team that is out to turn things around and reward its fans for their incredible loyalty for the failures of the past decade. Then again, maybe it's not just apathy that hurts this team. Perhaps it is a problem with talent. Looked at critically, last season's seven wins were, for the most part, unimpressive. Five of their wins came over losing teams-- K.C., Oakland, St. Louis, Seattle, J-Ville. Their two other wins were against .500 teams (Denver & San Diego). So how did the team address it's sub-par record vs. an extremely weak schedule? They brought in one aging star and a couple reserves to the offense and two other reserves on defense. What did the Patriots do? This consistently great team, who went 11-5 with an unknown backup QB, went to work and IMPROVED their squad. This is a team who was going to be an elite team by simply getting their star QB back. Now, I don't see any team being strong enough to beat them. The Bills? They are relying on virtually the same players to bring them back to respectability. I'm happy that the Bills addressed the interior of their OL. This was long overdue. But moving an average-at-best right tackle to the most important spot on the line--left tackle--is at best incredibly questionable, and at worst criminal for the development of a quarterback who has demonstrated little pocket presence. I'm afraid the pasting this team took last night is prelude to yet another disappointing year. Can you imagine this team opening the season on national television against the best team in the NFL? Just compare the talent level on each team and tell me about a run in the playoffs this year.
  13. The reserves did a nice job of getting the ball into the end zone, but the starters are still struggling a bit. Here's some advice which should be intuitively obvious to the most casual observer: When the regular season starts, put Owens, Nelson, and Hardy in at the same time. At 6'3, 6'5, and 6'6, would there be a team in the NFL who could match size with the Bills? Nelson's TD last night should give at least some indication that the Bills could dominate inside the 20.
  14. Not my style. Just happened to be on the site while watching the game and had to blow off some steam. If this team ever plays as good as they look in those sick white unis, they will be in the 'offs.
  15. Been a Bills fan for 40 years and have not missed a Bills game in 15 years. Of course I know its only preseason. That doesn't change the fact that the Bills look small and slow. Schoebel and Kelsay? I'd rather watch Cagney & Lacey. Slow...white...old.
  16. Bills look small and slow. Defense getting mauled. Brutally bad throw by Trent. Levitre abused. Looks like 4-12.
  17. Wood v Peters? Peters has the upper hand so far in that he has actually PLAYED in meaningful games against opposing defenses who were trying to KILL our QB. It's incredible how many people on this board are prepared to knight Mr. Wood based on what a few people have seen for about a week in training camp. Sure, his attitude seems great and he's got a pretty decent pedigree, but until he holds his own against the type of DL's he will see week in, week out in the NFL, don't tell me that he's ANYTHING more than an unproven rookie with exelllent potential. Get excited, got your rocks off, but please don't tell me how good this guy is until he's actually done something besides have a "nasty attitude".
  18. Nice guys don't count for Dick in the NFL. As much as I admire Tony Dungy for the leader, coach, and man that he has been, I'll take a rat bas#%@$ like Belichick, J. Johnson, Parcells, or Coughlin over a "nice guy" any day of the week to be the coach of my team. The fans in New England, Dallas, and New York don't have to apologize to anyone for their multiple Lombardi trophies.
  19. Of course fans are supposed to discuss the draft on a message board. I'm not talking about the rational people here. I'm talking about the extreme ones--the ones who say this is the "worst" or "best" draft the Bills have had or that the choice of a player "sucked" or was "brilliant".
  20. Until these guys get some actual playing time on the field, does it make sense to either trash or praise the Bills for who they picked? It kills me to see some of these posters so bent out of shape because their favorite "mock draft" was ignored by the Bills (or pretty much every other team) and therefore the Bills are finally ruined for good. I remember when Lonnie Johnson was taken and he was going to be that vertical threat that the Bills had been longing to get at the TE position. Is Nelson that guy? Sure looks good on film, but so did Lonnie. How did that turn out? My son was disgusted when the Bills went with Maybin when Orakpo was available. Why? Because he looked at tons of mock drafts (which were mostly blown out) and was convinced that these "experts" knew what was best for the Bills. Mike Williams was a "can't miss" player. Turns out he missed a lot of things--like passion and the ability to protect the quarterback. Let's wait and judge these guys after we've seen them play a few games, ok?
  21. Lazily pasted this from Bills Daily site. Wow, what a rotten draft! Dig the "Draft Grade" at the bottom. 1) Erik Flowers 6-4 1/8, 270, 4.73 - He's a player who was moving up the charts on certain teams but was always high on the Bills chart. He is much bigger than he played at last year but hasn't lost any of his speed. He was considered a pure pass rusher before gaining nearly 30 pounds. He was a hybrid linemen/linbacker but is now just a lineman. He may be a Marcellus Wiley clone. Will help let the Bills keep using their rotation. Was a junior college transfer who is considered a gym rat by scouting director Dwight Adams. 2) Travares Tillman 6-1, 195, 4.55 - Tillman has good size for a safety and is known better for his run stuffing ability and is an above average tackler. His pass defense needs some work and he is not considered a ball hawk. He is supposedly better suited for strong safety than free safety which makes this pick a bit of a surprise. Nevertheless, look for him to be given a chance at the starting free safety position. 3) Corey Moore OLB 5-11, 222, 4.6 - The Bills went for the second pass rusher in the first three rounds by picking Moore. He is an explosive athlete who moves very well. He's downfall is his height, but he projects to be an outside linebacker but has played some strong safety. He will be a bit of a project, so don't expect him to step in and start in Gabe Northern's old spot. He will probably see the field as an extra pass rusher in obvious passing situations. Mel Kiper called him "perhaps the greatest defensive player in College Football this past season." 4) Avion Black WR Tennessee St. 6-0, 180, 4.4 - Fast small player who the Bills got to replace Kevin Williams as a kick, and possibly a punt returner. He is a junior who was slated to return for his senior year before being called ineligible. Mel Kiper seems to like him. He has good speed, a good vertical leap, and scored three touchdowns on returns while catching 47 passes as a receiver. He will have an immediate impact as a returner but may not be polished enough to step in as third receiver. 5) Sammy Morris RB Texas Tech 5-11 3/4, 222 4.6 - Morris is a tweener that can play both tailback and fullback but his best games last year were at the tailback position. He missed two seasons in college because of academic ineligibility. Excellent receiver out of the backfield, may be another Shawn Bryson type of back. Will probably make the team taking Gash's spot. 6) Leif Larsen DT UTEP 6-4 1/4, 305, 5.080 - He's a big and powerful tackle in the mold of Pat Williams possibly. The Norway native is 25 years old and is still a project because he hasn't played much organized football. He has tremendous upside and will have a chance to learn the game behind Ted Washington and Williams. Possibly headed for the practice squad. 7) Drew Haddad WR Buffalo 5-10 1/2, 186, 4.65 - Another small wide receiver from a small, local school. Like Black, chosen earlier, Haddad returns kicks and punts giving the Bills two new options at replacing Kevin Williams. He's not very fast but is sure handed and runs good routes. Considering the lack of receivers the Bills have, he may have a good chance of making the team at least as a punt returner. He will probably get Kamil Loud's roster spot. 7) Deshon Polk LB Arizona 6-1 1/2, 233 - Another example of taking the best available athlete. He projects to playing inside here, probably backing up Sam Cowart. He is better in pass coverage than at run stuffing. He is also a good special teams player. 2000 DRAFT GRADE On paper this seems to be a lot of reaching for certain picks. Keep in mind, the Bills history of drafting is considered one of the best, if not the best in the league. They definitely deserve the benefit of the doubt. Flowers was a player coming up on everybody's board and should be a solid player. They may have reached a bit for Tillman in the second round, he may have been there in the third round. Moore was a steal in the third and so was Morris in the fifth. Black may be the sleeper pick of the draft for the Bills, he will become a solid returner. The late round picks were initially used to fix the many holes in the special teams unit. B
  22. Remember that Peters collected those sacks in 12.5 games last year. I'm neither a Peters hater nor a Peters apologist, but I saw every game last year (as with the past 15 seasons), and the man simply did not merit that kind of money. That said, the Bills got true value from Peters, taking a practice squader to Pro-Bowl player and getting at least a 1st & 4th round pick for him. BTW, thanks to the person who posted the videos...but for crying out loud, sack #20 (game breaker for Jets) was 100% Peters' fault!
  23. As a lifelong Bills fan (47 years), it pains me to see what has become of the franchise. Living in Indianapolis, the pain is somehow amplified by the decade-long success of the Colts and the merriment of the city and their fans. Like many transplanted Bills fans, I make a yearly visit back to a game at The Ralph and have watched the Bills via Sunday Ticket for the past 15 years. My home and classroom are filled with Bills decorations and my closets are full of Bills clothing. Through the good and the bad, I have stuck with the team and consider myself to be as loyal as any fan. This said, I have reached the breaking point with the current organization. Keeping Jauron and the rest of the below average staff is the last straw. I know that teams go through valleys to reach peaks, but this team demonstrates no desire to improve and rewards mediocrity. Surely the people of Buffalo can see the writing on the wall--you are going to lose your team and Ralph is just making it easier for all of you to bid them farewell. I began my own process by cancelling my subscription to the Ticket on Wednesday.
