I agree that Spain will not cost $10M, if the price gets that high they let him go. There are only 10 guards in NFL making $10M. With the final landing spot for Ford in question, I think they keep Spain on short (1-2 year) deal at modest money ($5-6M) which put him in range of comparable players in the league. He made $1.9 million in his last year with Tenn. and $2 million with Bills and he's 29 years old.

I don’t think Spain signs another 1 year deal ... he has already done that..

He needs to make some bank with his next contract because he isn’t getting any younger..

  2. Thanks for this...

I think Spain gets Re-signed but not for as much as you are saying.. I would say $7M per year for 3 years.. I’m a big fan of him this year but I don’t think they can pay him what you are suggesting... If that’s his value then I think he is getting it from someone else..

I agree that if Spain comes back this probably means the end of Long....He will probably end up traded for a 6th..

I think the RT spot continues another year with Ford supported by Nsekhe..

They will draft another Tackle early Day 3...

They could extend Dawkins this offseason if they are convinced he is the LT in the medium term..I keep changing my mind on whether he is good enough but given other holes they have to worry about they probably extend him..

If the above all happens then I don’t see a big name FA signing .. They might bring in a couple of depth guys to compete for a spot and/or possibly bring Waddle back..

  3. I don’t know why exactly, but I want the Bills to win one before the Vikings too..Misery loves  company I guess..

I don’t really care who wins , but I find myself gradually leaning towards the Chiefs...

We can have a bit more Mahomes remorse here afterwards to help pass the offseason, because as we all know we can’t go more than a week without revisiting that..

Quinton Spain is going to ask for much more money than he’s worth.  Probably upwards of 3 years at $8+ per year, and I think Beane proved his ability to find offensive lineman at value this past off-season.

Firstly.. thanks for the effort in the first post... always enjoy reading peoples thoughts in this area, particularly when they are as well throught and as detailed as yours...

I want to question you on Spain though...

He has already come out and said he wants to stay in Buffalo and is  prepared to get a deal done prior to FA starting... So I think your figures of what his expecations may be are on the high side...

Also,.. not sure if you have seen this, but a couple of his influential team mates love him... Now I know that they are not going to come out and say anything negative about him, but the comments seem more positive than you usually see...

We’d love to have him back. He deserves to get paid this offseason. The guy started every game, I don’t know if he missed a snap. A great person to be around, smart as hell, he made this offensive line so much better, helped me out a lot. I owe a lot to Quinton Spain,” center Mitch Morse

Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen echoed Morse, calling Spain someone he could depend upon.

“He’s been awesome for us. Just his mindset, his attitude, the way he plays, he brings a fire. He’s a really good dude, too,” Allen said. “I love him and I wish we’d get him back too. I know it’s the nature of the business. If I had a say, we’d have in back.”

Look.. he is not going to play for nothing ,so I think if they really want him they would need to make an offer that is fair... I would put this at 3 years $20Mil...$10 MIl guaranteed.... Ive got that from John Miller getting paid 3 years $16.5Mil in FA last year  who I would rate as a much lesser player..

It seems to me that most people dont want to pay him even half that as he is just an "average" player at the position.. .

The issue is though that he was brought in on a "prove it ' deal on chump change, and he has proven it in my eyes.,.

It looks at odds to the message that they want to send of guys getting a chance and proving themselves...  It may set a bad example if they dont make a genuine attempt to keep him and just let him walk out the door into Free Agency...

The Chiefs and Ravens, seem built to be part of the championship mix for a long time.

I am not sure if the Bills have the coaching/QBing to become the consistent third team in the mix.   If Tomlin and Belichick cannot create past magic, I think the Bills are positioned to be the next best consistently after the chiefs and ravens.   Unfortunately, I don't see any obvious moves that will allow the Bills to propel past these two teams on a consistent basis.

This is the question isnt it?  I'll even go further to say that probably its going to be on Josh to take them to this level because ultimately the games are won on the field...  He has got to win 12 games and a playoff game to get them into the Championship game, and many are not going to believe he can do it until he actually does it...

Ravens and Chiefs havent won anything yet.. whilst its likely one of them goes through to the SB, I wouldnt quite proclaim it as a given looking at the Titans play last week... Both QB's are young so will be interesting to see how they handle the pressure of the games this weekend that they are expected to win..

But the 2020 Bills won't be competing against the 2019 Bills, they will be competing against the other AFC teams.

There may not be any "obvious moves" that propel the Bllls to the top next season, but Ive got  lot of confidence that the Bills will be a better team in 2020 with the younger guys including the QB having another year of experience under their belt.. plus the expectations that the Bills spend some money and acquire another couple of pieces in FA and the Draft... Whilst they are competing against other teams as you said, they can only control what they do themselves...

When Neal had that sack, he stood over Watson for a moment, and I thought they might flag him. Just walk away, son, no gloating please.

He has had some great ST plays this season, too.

Yes.. good point...didn’t like that at all and

I remember saying the same thing about it to my friend that I was watching the game with at that particular time...

But I think Neal has come a long way this season from a quiet 2018 and perhaps a guy that was on the fringe to make the team 6 months ago, to someone who I think has had a lot of impact the last few weeks..

McD seems to know his way around these back 7 defensive draft picks...

Let’s see what Vosean Joseph and Jaquan Johnson deliver next year...

It's a risk for sure but regardless, we're going to need some things to break our way in order to win a Superbowl- he's the kind of guy I'm open to betting on.

We all know his capabilities when fit, so a lot of teams will be interested...

Being a realist, don’t think he is the type of risk that Beane will be outbidding the market for...

I could get behind it though...

If process trumps production, then how is this "process" making this team any better? The second part of your logic is basically implying DE will become a need when DE will also become an even bigger need since more than likely, this will be Hughes' last year. Lawson was far more productive than Murphy in both run support and sacks, but because Murphy is "processy", we just throw away the better DE?

You missed the part of how they gave up their control for what Lawson does next year..

Lawson can go on the market and where he chooses...

Murphy is stil contracted next year..
