When I first started the prediction thread? About 50%.

Those odds haven't changed much even now.

    Now they're maybe 40%.

I'd rather not see Allen starting if our OL is really as atrocious as this, though.

    Sorry im confused...

Did you say 50 percent when you started the thread or 5%?

    I just bumped the thread...

    You said “5% if that”...

    I think it's Josh Allen.

I'll be fine if McCarron wins it.

I'll be absolutely floored if Peterman wins it... I think he's more likely on the practice squad than under center week 1.

I think Allen has like a 57% chance.

McCarron has maybe a 38% chance.

Peterman has a 5% chance, if that.

Allen is obviously the choice of this regime long term. Beane has questioned publicly the media perception of Allen as "raw." Dabol said he has a plan for him and was said to be on him like white on rice all rookie minicamp.

It just feels inevitable that the most talented QB who's already the Apple of McBeane's Eyes will win the starting job against one scrub with a noodle arm and one QB with some potential, 4 years on the bench and a handful of quality NFL starts, but also a guy who made it through the 1st wave of Free Agency before Beane finally settling on him.

The physical ability is there. The smarts are there. The experience under center is there. The work ethic is there.

#17 under center on Sunday, September 9th in Baltimore...

    what say you?

    So Peterman 5% chance?

It's hard to imagine that OP isn't sniffing glue, but can't imagine that all teams are going to run rough-shod over this team.

Some good coaches have preached "Don't get too high on great games, but don't eat cyanide when things look hopeless" (paraphrasing).

I'll meet all-ya-all somewhere in the midlands

    Go BILLS!

    So 8-8 then?

    Sounds good..

Look who comes out of the woodwork at the moment Allen had a bad game.

    What a joke.

This from the guy who said Allen had a 5% chance of being the starter week 1 and then went into hiding when the chances increased

What chance did you give Peterman starting week 1 a few months back?

This is what a lot of posters here don't seem to understand.

If we are discussing who played better in the preseason games, that was Nate.

Regardless, Allen should start Game 1 in Baltimore.

McDermott said that this preseason was a QB competition so if NP has "won" that contest than he deserves to start and probably MCD will think the same...

Allen will be starting before too long so don't worry though... either through poor old Nate getting knocked out or not being able to cut it... He will be on a very short leash...

Against a much more modest pass rush last season, Peterman tossed 5 ints in half a game.  How is it he would have beaten that rush in the first half yesterday?  That Cincy front 4 was Tee-ing off because Daboll decided to invite that by not running the ball.

I think Peterman and McDermott have moved on from the 5 INT game...

I'll join them based on what I have seen so far this preseason...

This is true, but it keeps getting repeated that he played well against other team's starters in multiple games.  This is obviously not true.

He didn't have to face the Cincy pass rush behind this starting O-line.  That's significant enough to render the majority of his preseason work (which was almost all against backups) of questionable value in assessing his superiority over Allen.  They are being judged on different criteria--especially (or, really, completely) after yesterday's game

Im not sure I would say he played "well" against the other teams starters Week 1 but he might have played the best of the three against the 1's... Its probably pretty meaningless anyway as they are 3 different teams in any case ...

For the record, I haven't got a dog in this fight and in the long run for the betterment of the team the sooner Allen is the starter the better...

My gut feeling is that Allen is not the Week 1 starter though.... Just my opinion

You (and others) are making this up.  He started for 2 series in game one.  First drive, a TD.  Second drive, a pick.

Game 2 he was the #3 QB.  Came in halfway through the 3rd Q.

Game 3, he came in the second half to mop up against the scrubs.

He can only play in the situations that Beane puts him in on...

Not sure what else he could have done this preseason to further his case?

The team gave up on a guy with a legitimate disease and major medical operation.

Once again - how do we know this?

Houston paid him $4Mil for a one year deal... This is significantly more than any other OL on the team for a guy who was a back up last year...

Maybe Beane was interested in keeping him but got outbid...

  11. Do we know that they didn't try to keep Henderson?

Henderson got paid $4Mil.. this is what they paid Newhouse and Bodine combined and that figure would have made him the highest paid player on the OL by some margin..

Im not saying that he is not worth the money mind you.. just that they may have got outbid and decided to go in a different direction...

The offensive line is a concern but I have never witnessed so much hysteria, especially over a pre-season game, as I have in the last 24 hours or so.

The last day just seems like your typical sky is falling stuff to me we see here all the time..

Real hysteria was the day they traded Sammy and Darby...

Sure. Seems like while they both mismanaged the cap at times Whaley had the eye. His problem as a GM was that he was more of a scout. I envision his job as the HC saying I need a guy who can do this thing. And Whaley instantly knowing Corey Graham, Zach Brown, Nikel Robeys. He just had a knack for the unheard of people who just worked. I could be argued down but faith and all these corny mantras didn't exist. For those people who really liked Jim Schwartz, he was pushing for Hue Jackson who would have tried to keep Schwartz on. OK Hue has been pretty bad, but where is Rex? I just feel like he wanted better FB players and was prepped to sacrifice the content of team character.

Beane and McD seem to want to win. But the right way. And so far 2 offseasons this has been pretty bad. The mismanagement of draft picks, no attempt to fortify a line where are the wrs? I am just having a tough time trusting this process.

Appreciate that Whaley was not all bad, but a few years later his mistakes seem to be all I can remember..

For Example A - the Clay Contract... this has turned out to be a terrible deal that even 4 years later the team still cant move on from...( $9Mil in Wasted Cap this year)

He made some terrible  draft decisions even apart from Watkins...Wasn't a fan of the Ragland trade up amongst others...

Not sure how much his fingerprints were on the EJ pick.. surely he must have at least given his blessing..

But agree  Beane has got a long way to go as well before we see whether he is on the right track...

Although, I will say that I thought he played the Tyrod trade to perfection...

So who would we have starting at MLB?

Some free agent scrub like Bowman?

    Maybe re-signed Preston another year?

Neither one is a great option either mind you but the OL is looking ominous...

To be honest though, - I loved the pick of Edmunds at the time so not really trying now to backtrack from that .

Just wondering aloud if perhaps they could have gone in another direction....
