From a policy perspective, abandoning some degree of GOP policies for the Dem ticket of probably the most left that our country has seen, seems odd for any republican to do. To me anyways. A GOP member can not support/endorse Trump, I can understand that. But abandoning your GOP principles and endorsing a far left ticket speaks more about him than it does Trump. Poor decision on his part.

The point you're missing is the sale of your home could generate capital gains. Before selling, those gains are unrealized capital gains, and therefore could be subject to this tax on unrealized capital gains.

This is a stupid idea and extremely problematic to manage. First, let me say I'm not against taxes. In fact, in order to get our country's debt under control I think we need to cut expenditures AND raise taxes. Can't solve our debt problem otherwise. But taxing unrealized gains is stupid for numerous reasons, mostly measuring the unrealized gain. If we want to raise tax revenues, there are so many better ways to do it. explain
