  1. Bills Offense hasn't played a 4 quarter game this year, that includes the play calling. Bills D plays 4 quarters every game.
  2. I would say there's a few fans here who have completely unrealistic expectations, which is really strange considering Bills QB situation in last several years. If Allen doesn't throw over 3-4 TD's and over 300 yards then they just can't see much success. I would still say Bills receiver corp is one of poorer in the league. Several plays where no receiver gets open, every game. But the Bills are a defensive team that relies on their run game and just a QB isn't going to change that.
  3. QB "taking sacks". Did you happen to see Dalton take 8 sacks last night? Its easier to not take sacks and just throw the ball away, especially when they don't call grounding aka. Tom Brady.
  4. Brady's completion % in the game ended up same as Allen's. And it was Brady who threw the endzone int. Also Brady was not sacked at all and got lucky on 2 throws that should have been called grounding. Biggest difference is Brady threw some passes away whereas Josh tried to force them in. Allen did have a bad game, and if he had a great game Bills likely would have won. I think though it would have still taken more than if Allen had just shown up and made a few passes and handed the ball off. I think the last QB to have a great game against the Patriots was the middle of last year. Whats really amazing is how so many Bills fans seem to think Allen should come out every game and play great every quarter he's on the field. Which seems odd considering they haven't really had many if any good QB's in last 20 years or so and Bills receiving corp is still considered to be in the lower 1/3 of the NFL.
  5. Allen was at times trying to do to much and he also made some plain bad decisions. And I don't blame him for most the sacks that occurred either. THere was 1 sack was his fault because he simply held the ball to long and he just has to make the best play available even if its throwing the ball away. Some of those sacks he had no chance at all. Up the middle its hard to get away from. Still I think the Bills might have won had he not got hurt. He just has to play more consistent and not come out in 1st qtr like he's shell shocked. He did start out 2nd half well. Its too bad a personal foul like that in the NFL is barely even penalized.
  6. Barkley made 1 big play in this game and otherwise didn't do squat. He's a good backup but Bills will quickly see their limitations with him running offense.
  7. Clearly Barkley at this point. Rosen still has a chance to be a decent QB but he has been in the worst situations. I never had a doubt Allen could be a good QB in the NFL myself. But I also know that no matter how good a player may be in college, he may be the best player in every game he plays but in the NFL, your going against 11 other top pro players every week so your skills advantage is much less. And that is what Josh has had to learn - to play within himself and he not try to do it all. I think he's learning to rely on his teammates like they rely on him.
  8. It seems possible that if the Bills had taken Rosen and the Cards had taken Allen, he could have still ended up being traded away and Allen could be in the bad situation in Miami. Bills fans would be talking more about their O-line and weapons for Rosen.
  9. 3 keys to the game imo - 1. Bills have to be able to run the ball , cannot have a bunch of 3rd and longs. 2. Have to give Allen adequate protection. And Allen can't try to do too much, ie. don't run backwards 20 yards and don't throw blind passes. 3. Bills, including Allen etc. can't make the mistakes and turnovers they've done in prev. 3 games. Pats would score 28 points if given 4 turnovers in a half.
  10. that interception was bad, but really need to look at what led to the interception. Allen should not run backwards like that to get away from the rush. Similar to the grounding call, if you run backwards like that you put yourself in a terrible position to do anything. Might run back to get around one guy but don't try to outrun the rush going backwards.
  11. Good teams beat poor teams and the Bills are a good team. May not be a great team yet but in upper 3rd of the league. Josh had a good game overall. Did have a couple big mistakes but some big plays too, thats probably how he's going to play this year. Also 2-3 drops that were good throws. Just needs to keep getting better each week. The 2nd half play calling got to conservative at times and then the O line seemed to have more breakdowns too.
  12. I think there were 3 different drives maybe that started with a false start penalty? Bills get the ball back, 1st and 10 and before any drive begins it 1st and 15.
  13. Played a good game, managed Bills offense well, NO TURNOVERS! A- heck KC scored 28 points in 2nd qtr against Raiders and that was it for them. You don't score multiple TD's every qtr in the NFL, (unless your playing the Dolphins ?
  14. He has better receivers than last year, and is throwing higher percentage passes like most NFL QB's throw. And he's not forcing as much as last year either, such as ignoring the short pass and looking for the big play each down. All that together and Bills now have a good offense that can move the ball and score. Just converting on 3rd down is a major factor in the NFL.
  15. I watched game late on dvr and cheated and checked the halftime score/stats (not final score though). So yeah watching the game it wasn't near as bad as the stats made it out to be. Josh did have a hand in the turnovers, no doubt but as the article points out was not result of poor decisions. The 2 almost ints were worse than the actual turnovers. One thing too, which I doubt anyone argues, is last year's Allen / Bills team would not have won this game.
  16. you just don't expect a ball to bounce up in that manner, its not at all like a high pass that is tipped to a defender. That int was just a fluke pure and simple. What was worse imo was the 2 bad passes that could have been interceptions - the one was dropped and one called back on penalty.
  17. No, I don't think Darnold was better at all. Thats what I was saying - he really didn't do much, he had 1 big TD drive and that was about it. But statwise he didn't have a bad game, but thats not what matters.
  18. TD, no ints, no fumbles. Stats
  19. For those who want to give JA a C or worse, then by definition Darnold should get a better grade. 175 yards and 1 TD, no ints. Except not sure how anyone watching the game could say Darnold outperformed Allen.
  20. Defense really won the game for Bills. Jets only got 6 points on 4 turnovers? Offense was Jekyll and Hyde. They made some good plays but defense picked up the slack. Good thing was Bills won, bad thing was it was only the Jets and a good team would likely have put the Bills away in this one.
  21. I have to go with a solid B. The one interception was a poor pass/decision. The fumble on the sack - can't do those. The fumble on the snap was partly his fault. So I got to watch the game on delay and I saw the first half score and stats before watching. I did not check the 2nd half/final score and just watched it. I was actually much more disappointed before I watched the first half than the actual game. . After seeing that and then the 3rd qtr. I thought the Bills still had a chance but I knew it may also just be wishful thinking. But overall I was impressed with most of his passes and decisions. And more importantly, very impressed with the fact that he came back on the road from 4 huge turnovers! Jets fans have to be disappointed with Darnold in this one too, very pedestrian game for him.
  22. I disagree. I think this is a critical game for Bills. I expect the Jets to get better as the season goes on, especially on offense. Of course I think the Bills will do that too. However the Bills Defense should be head and shoulders above the Jets D in Game 1 here and Bills have to take advantage of that and win this game. If Bills can't beat what was a lousy Jets team last year in Game 1, then Bills fans have no business talking about playoffs imo.
  23. Heck, I'm happy Allen threw that int. Its good negative reinforcement in a preseason game. As far as the rest of the game, Allen did not look that good but the entire game plan was blah. Not many QB's are going to have a great night when they only throw 6-7 passes. Barkley gets to throw 14 passes. Bills didn't get off to a good start, had a few bad penalties, the Beasley fumble stopped a drive and the offense couldn't get any rhythm going. That was how this team looked at the beg. of last year. The last drive of half Bills had some good plays but were also significantly helped by some penalties but they came out much more determined. So really a poor first half offensively all the way around and gives them all something to work on the next 2 weeks.
  24. I think 10-6 is very realistic. CBSSports put Bills as 31'st easiest schedule (Pats at 32). Key is #1 Bills have to have a decent running game. Last years running game won't do. If they have to try and rely on JA to much then the offense is going to break down. Can't have continuous 3rd and longs etc. 2nd key is Bills have to get off to a very good start. They can't be just 6-5 coming into that 4 game stretch of games 12-15. And of course key players staying healthy. The other thing too is the Bills don't need JA to do it all. They can win with great defense and an effective running game and let Allen play within himself, which should be very effective. JA doesn't need to throw for 4000 yards and 40 TD's for Bills to have a great season.
  25. If I remember correctly one of the knocks on Allen last year was holding the ball to long, so getting rid of the ball quickly is a major plus. Getting into the rhythm or habit of making the quick pass is significant.
