  1. Defensive units have a pretty clear cut goal - prevent the other team from scoring and try to make them punt, get a turnover when you can. On offense it should be try to score every time you have the ball. In certain situations such as the end of a half or end of game then worry about managing the clock. Bills coaches seem perfectly content to just try to get a first down and then punt and play field position. Successful teams: Whats are plan on offense? To score a touchdown! How we going to do that? Get first downs! Bills - Whats are plan on offense? Run some plays and see if they work, run some time off the clock, then punt and play field position, let the defense win it.
  2. Allen didn't play well at all in 4th qtr but the best he could have done was make the game closer. But I agree Allen does show a good grasp of the offense and on many plays he doesn't panic and can make a nice touch pass. The problem is in games like this one, that offensive gameplan doesn't lend much to actually winning the game. Bills really need to develop more of a vertical field gameplan for games like this, although I will note the weather probably did limit some of the playcalling. But you can't expect to win every game 16-10.
  3. It seems like the Bills would like to say they're a run oriented offense with play action passing but in reality their a hack rushing offense and end up putting JA in position to have to play perfect football in order to proceed. In this game Singletary made a nice run after the catch to score 1 TD, but did anyone else on offense make any great plays? Bills want Allen to run the ball on 3rd and 4th and 2's but don't want him to play "reckless". I think Allen is learning to play exactly how the Bills coaching staff wants him to and that is a big part of the problem!
  4. Allen didn't look good in the 2nd half but this game was hardly about Allen . Bills were trying to make JA the feature running back in this game and throw to a bunch of receivers that can't get more than a 1 foot separation. When you give up 31 points its usually not the QB's fault you lost. Allen made one glaring mistake on that fumble but otherwise pretty much played withing the offensive scheme of the gameplan.
  5. Bills defense gave up way to many rushing yards and allowed several 3rd down and long conversions. Philly played a good game, which I expected. Bills offense managed only 53 rushing yards for Gore and Singletary combined (Philly 218 rushing). A couple diff drives the first play was a dropped pass. Allen played poorly in the 2nd half but by then the Eagles were containing him pretty well and they didn't have to worry much about the run. Bills should have been much more aggressive after halftime. I did not see that many open receivers. They just don't get a lot of separation. There were also several plays that seemed to go awry and Allen ended up throwing the ball away. Not sure whats up with those. Even when the Bills were down 31-13 their still running 5 yard pass plays and seemed content to punt. Bills didn't have any urgency in this game. Eagles got pasted last week by Dallas and played good this week. Thats sort of the nature in the NFL. Can't be to worried about who you beat or lost to, but how you played.
  6. other thing I meant to add, Bills need to limit Ertz!
  7. Certainly the Bills have an easier schedule this year. But in the NFL there are rarely any easy games, even against poor opponents. I'm not to worried about the Bills defense, they play well most weeks, they kind of looked better against the Patriots than they did the Dolphins. The good thing with the offense is they've faced some adversity and were able to overcome it. That should pay off I think. You get down and then you lose, it becomes oh no, here we go again vs lets get it together and win!
  8. Eagles have some weapons. I think this will be a very tough game and the Eagles aren't ready to throw in the towel yet. Also, don't forget Josh Allen and Carson Wentz both played for the same college coach - Craig Bohl.
  9. I'd say B-. Bills offense is very average at least half a game. They don't seem to be consistent in attacking other teams weaknesses. Bills seem more content to follow their basic game plan philosophy.
  10. I think one could say if Allen had 1-2 ints the Dolphins could have very well won this game. Allen played the type of game he needed to win.
  11. Schedule does have a lot to do with it. Look at Detroit, they have a decent team this year and 3 close losses, but they have a tough schedule for the most part. In AFC, Jets, Cleveland, Pittsburg, Denver and Chargers were all projected to be better than they have been and Cinci shouldn't be as bad as they are.
  12. Allen does need to improve on some of those downfield throws, such as hitting his guy in stride running down the sideline, but he his real strength is the 20-30 yard strikes. He can throw a 30 yard rope. Thats what the Bills need to add more to their offense. Its a big field out there and they should be able to get some guys open in that range more often. And inside the redzone, remember last year he hit some nice passes on the quick receiver stop routes. It seems there's a lot of playbook their just not calling right now.
  13. Bills haven't been in any offensive shootouts nor been down big early that has required the offense to try and score a lot of points quickly. A lot of QB's pile up yards in losses. Bills defense keeps them in most games so the offense is deliberately prodding and time consuming.
  14. This was EXACTLY the type of QB many (more like most) on here have been harping for Allen to be. Increase the %, use the short passing game, get TD passes, no ints. And not take any sacks to take them out of field goal position. Almost to a T what so many on here were crying about that Allen couldn't do.
  15. Now the Bills, especially on offense need to go for the kill!
  16. but but but Mariota only has 2 interceptions... I thought that was the important thing?
  17. I wonder how many old Baltimore Colts fans still lament the trading away Elway.... ?
  18. the biggest difference with baby boomer generation from the ones after is they (myself included) didn't grow up with wealth or materialism and technology. Most didn't even have cable TV. I would say what most call "materialism" mostly started in the 1980's and has increased hand in hand with technology. Also, I'm sure Allen didn't have much opportunity to go to things like a NHL game before coming to Buffalo.
  19. Until Allen has a 450 yards and 4 TD's in a losing game, he will never be considered a good quarterback!
  20. He had Knox open for a moment but then he had to avoid the rush. I think its pretty apparent he was throwing to Yeldon who was running when he began the throw, he might not have been able to catch it but he probably would have got a hand on it at least. He had a guy right in his face as well and didn't get off a great pass either. Allen can't predict exactly where his guy will go on a play like that. I think in fairness the pass wasn't as bad as it looked initially but still a QB int. But on a play like that you would think someone would get more open too.
  21. yeah but he had a good stat line - 22/39 321 yards and 1 TD. Compare that to the lowly Colts QB stats -J. Brissett 18/29 151 yards, No TD's and 1 int! Some would rather lose looking good than win looking ugly.
  22. For those who didn't think Allen did good enough, I don't think there was a lot more Allen could have done in this game. Even if the int had not happened the game might not have been much different. Bills played this one very conservatively and primarily relied on the defense. Bills run game didn't produce much until that last drive and there were some penalties that inhibited the offense. Wasn't a dynamic performance but the thing that is important is just winning the game by whatever means necessary. It was a good game game plan considering how last week went and hopefully the BIlls open up the offense a little more after the break.
  23. Darnold was lucky he was sick, so he won't take any of the blame for the awful Jets play.
  24. still to many QB runs, especially the 4th and 2. Overall I would give Allen a B-. For the most of the game he played within himself and didn't try to force much. I don't really understand not attempting to throw the ball over 20 yards.
  25. Josh hasn't had a great game yet this year. He's had some great 4th quarters but not a great full game. He's played 1 full season now, so I would expect more consistency and working towards a full game. He's still going to throw a bad interception in games but like today, Bills had a first down play and then a penalty and its 3rd and 5 and Josh tries to force the ball. He will probably do that in games. Still not happy with the Bills receivers. Every week I see great receiver play in the NFL but not many on the Bills.
