  1. I have no doubt that many coaches' wives bring up the weather issue when they are first told that Buffalo has come calling. Honestly, when I tell people where I'm from, the weather is usually the first thing they talk about. Having said this however, I put NO credence in Shanahan's explanation of weather as the key factor in his decision. What clinched it in my mind was when he complimented the Bills as being a very well run organization.
  2. The list has to include Tommy McDonald, WR for the Eagles in the 50's and 60's. He's a six-time Pro Bowler and HOF inductee (class of 1998). McDonald was also the last non-kicker to play in the NFL without a facemask.
  3. This is pretty straightforward really. Schobel knows he's due the roster bonus, so he makes it known that he's thinking about retiring to get the Bills' attention. Once he creates doubt in the Bills' mind about whether he wants to be here, he's in a position to force a trade. Schobel's as good as gone, the question is what do we get for him.
  4. I'd thank God.
  5. At Gailey's recent press event he indicated he was not done evaluating the QB's currently on the roster. Yet we have reports from Sal Palantonio and others (if we can believe them) indicating that the Bills have contacted the Eagles expressing interest in their QB's. Obviously if the Bills are working on a trade or other form of QB acquisition they will not acknowledge it publicly - not only would this be a bit disrespectful to the QB's on their roster, but it would also signal to potential trading partners how desperate they are to make a trade (thereby reducing their negotiating position in trade talks). The Bills will only acknowledge these discussions after something is consummated. I just think that the Bills would not even have made the call to the Eagles, had they not had a clear idea of where they are headed. Thoughts?
  6. Funny - Bill Conaty is Ethan Albright's agent.
  7. 1) Bills 2) S&P 500 3) Republican candidates everywhere
  8. Yea I know !!!!!!! My question is, who is he and how does he know John Guy bullied Jauron into playing Langston Walker at LT?
  9. Back to the original article - how do we know that Guy strongarmed Jauron into playing guys he got? How do we know this is credible? Who is the author of this article?
  10. That article spouts some stuff that, if true, would require a very well placed source. So before even discussing the substance of the article I have to ask, what are the credentials of the author?
  11. In a strange turn of events, I actually agree with you on this point. ST's are overrated and (in my opinion) - quality ST's are not highly correlated to wins in the NFL. If anyone doubts this, the Bills are "exhibit A" in my argument - consistently good ST's, and the W-L record, not so much.
  12. OK, I give up. What is "fran kaliber"?
  13. Still no reply to this. I am also curious why people call it a POS.
  14. Am I the only one who thinks BillsPhan (the OP) has ties to the Bills? His posts always seem to be poorly veiled apologies for the team.
  15. That's funny. Is the money coming out of your account?
  16. 1 - When were the Bills spewing about hiring a $10 million coach? Show me one link that ties a Bills official to that statement. 2 - Show me one link that ties a Bills official to a possible trade for McNabb. 3 - The Bills hardly "opted out" of hiring Cowher. From all reports they were persistent in pushing hard for him. You can lead a horse to water but... There is a lot of stuff swirling in the media and you can't get caught up in the roller coaster because you don't really know what the Bills are thinking. What media reports had the Bills hiring Gailey before it happened? Or Doug Whaley? Or Bruce DeHaven? Or the two strength & conditioning coaches? I understand your angst but the fact is we just have to wait and see.
  17. Well stated sir.
  18. Ralph agreed to the Toronto venture as a result of the realization that he has tapped out a dying market and needed other sources of revenue APART from WNY. Do you think he WANTS to give away home field advantage? Of course not. He has determined he must in order to survive. Answer me this please. If Ralph is such a blood sucker, why has he NEVER demanded a new stadium from NYS? Why did he also not do so back 10 years ago when HE requested renovations as opposed to a new stadium?
  19. I believe that Ralph IS inept at football decisions. But his ineptitude goes back many years, so that criticism (at least as it pertains to me) has nothing to do with his age.
  20. Ralph owes us? Really? NEWS FLASH - the Bills franchise is a commodity that is PRIVATELY OWNED. Ralph owes us NOTHING.
  21. Translation: Mr. Nix, Please disregard that gaping hole in the side of the Titanic, and get to work on those broken deckchairs. Thank you, One misguided Bills fan
  22. There is very little factual information in the article - it's all sentiment. Mr. Root is a guy who has made up his mind about Ralph and has molded reality to fit his view. For example, he postulates (but offers no proof) that Ralph never took offers to move because those offers weren't substantial enough. So I guess his thinking is, Ralph got the upper hand on those making weak offers by staying in Buffalo and selling his product at rock-bottom prices (by NFL standards) for decades after. Yea, Ralph really showed them, didn't he Mr. Root? And to compare the Sabres to the Bills as business ventures is just silly - the difference in order of magnitude is significant. You almost need to take an NHL franchise's balance sheet and put one or two 0's on the end of every number, to compare it to an NFL franchise. And while Mr. Root admits that even the Sabres may have to adjust their operating practices due to a lack of sufficient revenues (foregoing key free agents), he begrudges Ralph the opportunity to expand his market into Canada. Unfortunately, Mr. Root's perspective is that Ralph is "the man" squeezing the little guy at every opportunity. I guess he does not realize that the other owners are squeezing "bigger guys" in their cities at a much higher rate. Here's some info from his Foundation's website on how he's squeezing WNY: "He has long been recognized for his diverse and generous charitable endeavors that include such beneficiaries as the food banks of Buffalo and Rochester, the Ronald McDonald House, the United Way, S.P.C.A., the Buffalo Philharmonic, Shea's Performing Arts Center, and the Hospice Center of WNY, which recently named a new building wing the "Mary and Ralph Wilson, Jr. Hospice Inpatient Unit". For his tremendous charitable efforts in the Buffalo area over the years, Mr. Wilson was named the Seymour Knox III Humanitarian Award winner in the spring of 2003."
  23. Interesting that they lured Gamble away from sunny South Florida after 16 years with the Fins. I wonder what that took.
  24. It would take a lot more than that to boost the moral of the Bills fan base. Now, the MORALE might be improved...
