If this is really the case (which I'm not sure of BTW) why not test out that thesis some week and go against tendency to boot, by just committing to smashmouth football? Or would success with that approach require Gailey to rethink his entire offensive philosophy? And gee, we don't want that. Wondering what evidence you're basing this on. Recent radio interviews indicate that both Polian and his family look back on their time in Buffalo very fondly and highly emotionally. This. I think the idea that Wannstedt has complete autonomy over the D is self evident. I'm sure that when he was elevated, he was told he'd have complete autonomy on the D side - this is why he was given the title "Assistant Head Coach" in addition to the D Cooordinator title.

This is where the NFL isn't Madden. You are dealing with human beings and locker room chemistry, not stats on a TV screen. Freddie's trade value is really irrelevant. It's all about his value to THIS offense and THIS locker room. If the front office trades Freddie, it will lose the locker room.
