Bills hire Doug Marrone to be Head Coach

Good name for Jeremy White. I never hear him start a sentence by saying "I think..." or "In my opinion...". He just KNOWS EVERYTHING. Very annoying. -

It appears that that's Brandon's intent. How many times in his remarks did he talk about "empowering people"? To me, that is code for "no more meddling from above". -

Need to know the coordinators before I can form a reaction. If it's a college staff, I'll be very disappointed. It will have a minor league feel. -

Doug Marrone will interview w/Bills
BillnutinHouston replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree completely. A signed 5-year contract with the Bills is as guaranteed as a signed 5-year contract with anyone else. If you have doubts, ask Chan Gailey, who will continue collecting Ralph's checks for quite some time (UNTIL HIS CONTRACT EXPIRES). -
Agreed. I find Reid's continuing his career uninterrupted a bit disturbing at this point.

Agreed - the 2 most painful to listen to are the one with the annoying young parents talking about strollers, and the two siblings fighting over one copying the other's every word - "Stop copying me"! "Stop copying me"! Also, anyone else thrilled that the Transsiberian Orchestra's "The Lost Christmas Eve" concert is over? -

Not sure if there's any deeper meaning here or any strategic considerations related to the Bills, but I do know that Mr. Pegula is one heck of a sportsman! -

Apparently I was not clear because you completely misunderstood what I was saying. I said THAT marketing strategy (referring to your theory of going for Marrone to garner the massive and untapped Syracuse market) pales (in other words, is far subordinate to) trying to win. Brandon has been successful at making chicken salad out of chicken sh** in the past, but he also knows that with his ascendency he's now responsible for winning, and ultimately he knows that winning is the best possible marketing strategy. Bottom line, there is no part of your theory I agree with. -

Crazy theory. How will the Syracuse market react if Marrone crashes and burns? That "marketing strategy" pales in comparison to winning. I believe they're trying to make the right decision in order to win, whether that happens to be Marrone or not. -

New Stadium on the Horizon?
BillnutinHouston replied to Tim Anderson's Lunch Pail's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What is known is that Ralph has consistently been against a new stadium, for fairly obvious and extremely practical reasons related to the economics of debt servicing and ticket prices in the Buffalo market. Why build an expensive crown jewel that few locals can afford admission to, and whose debt servicing drags down the year-by-year profitability of the franchise? So when the lease deal was announced with statements about how a new stadium would be looked at down the road, it was clear to me that the new stadium talk was all about having a talking point to dangle to the public while Ralph is still owner, basically stalling things (by agreeing to study the issue) until a new owner is in place. The Ralph regime would never seriously consider a new stadium, but a new ownership group might demand one (foolishly, in my opinion) as a condition of staying in WNY. In this way, the concept of creating a working group to study the issue was a work of genius - a way to straddle the interests of the old and new ownership. Clearly Russ went a step further during his presser yesterday, at first failing to use the word "potential" to describe the stadium plan - probably getting caught up in the moment. Notably, he backtracked later on by adding the word "potential". I think Russ knows full well that the numbers do not support or justify a new stadium.
