Great Fitzpatrick article in The Athletic
BubbaT replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That WAS an excellent article with lots of insight on the "Jets years" for Fitz and the family dynamics he goes through. After he retires, I'd love to see him re-sign with Bills for 1 day so he could retire a Bill. There are so many people here that appreciated him. -
Training Camp media and practice 8/11

I concur. Athletic DT's really seem to give them a tough time. They don't seem flexible. They like mauler types but, really, the game is evolving to the point where the athletic DT's and those that substitute for the more run stuffing DT's on passing downs are going to necessitate a look for more athletic OG's. The Bills went 15-4 with them last year but I hope going forward they upgrade. -
Time for some end of training camp trades for future picks. I would not be at all surprised if the Bills fielded calls as cut down day approached.

Yes. They're playing 17 games instead of 16. Even with diminished production I think they get there. Barring injuries to key players of course

Louis Riddick on NFL Live said the AFC was top heavy

They should have stuck Indy in there somewhere too. I like their team and expect Wentz to enjoy Frank Reich's coaching and the Indy weapons and O line a LOT more than he did Philly's . -
Josh Allen OTAs press conference 5/25

Listening to Josh is like listening to McDermott. You certainly know what the talking points have been pre news conference -
New Episode of Bills Embedded 5/20
BubbaT replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really enjoyed that! Rousseau and Brown are ginormous human beings. It's great to see how happy the coaching and GM staff is and the thrill the players feel when the moment happens. The Bills video staff does an awesome job with these. Especially liked the Eric Washington/Rousseau interview -
Indy. A sneaky very hard game. Interested to see what Wentz does after reuniting with Reich. A very solid legit playoff team that the Bills play at home. It's also the start of a very difficult portion of the season. A win at home before hitting the Saints (on a very short week), Patriots and Bucs is likely to be needed.

Improve the interior of the offensive line so the running backs don't meet the D tackles 1 yard from where they get the ball and the run game might look a lot better

Best 5 Offensive Lineman Could Be Interesting
BubbaT replied to All I Need is Hope's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Feliciano is an average guard and center (and is paid like one). Since they couldn't run between the tackles with Morse, Feliciano and Boettger pretty much at all and since they got their lunch eaten by good D tackles all season (Are Chris Jones and Frank Clark done chasing Josh yet) upgrades with better athletes (ie higher draft picks...look at the new OT's this year) seemed logical. It is doubtful drafted interior O linemen would start in 2021 but if you get them in and on the roster, 2022 is possible. Morse and Feliciano might be feisty and experienced but both are both candidates to be released after this season. Frankly they are just ok players. Bates has taken exactly 1 series at center in a regular game (and they replaced him with Feliciano). He's been their backup tackle mostly. If he is their heir apparent at center, fine but I'll wait to see him play there a little before I coronate him. He seems like a useful backup player and i think Feliciano would be too. Morse's concussions and salary make him expendable. If you want to continue with meh guys in the middle of your offensive line, that's ok by me but I'd prefer cheaper and more athletic upgrades. With the contracts they are paying to Allen and Edmunds and perhaps Oliver after next year, average mid level free agent types like they've signed aren't feasible and will keep them from getting to where they want to go. -

OK. I'll hold you to it. Morse won't be on the roster (cap casualty) and they have no developmental one on the roster that I can see nor the resources after the Allen/Edmunds contracts to sign a good one in FA -

Ok, it's 2022. Who is our center? Thought they might draft a developmental one. -
Diggs played with torn oblique in playoffs?
BubbaT replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With 17 regular season games this year, injuries are not likely to diminish any. Depth all over will be critical. I suspect that is what this draft is mainly about for the Bills -
Who are you going to replace Morse, Star, Hughes and Feliciano with next year? Raw rookies or this year's draft choices that have been coached for a year? They are going to pay Allen and Edmunds. They'll need cheaper labor for cap purposes. The Bills linemen on both sides of the ball just were not good enough to get them to the top of the mountain. I think giving up draft capital would be a huge mistake long term and 1 rookie player is not likely to make much of a difference this year. Hard no for me on giving up much of anything to move up.

Josh Allen.

The Bob McGinn series of draft articles have been must read the past few years on The Athletic. It's always interesting to me to see the wide range of comments and opinions on each player. Other than Pitts, where there was unanimous praise, they are all over the place on almost everyone else. Some are nitpickier than others but it is still an interesting read. It's sometimes hard to believe scouts and league personnel people can watch the same guy and have such disparate views on what they've seen

Who are the 49er's going to take at 3
BubbaT replied to wagne591's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cooley's comments come from: a) playing in a Shanahan system; B) analyzing Jones's tape and considering him the best fit for the system Shanahan runs. If you want to go by every mock draft in terms of what constitutes "consensus" go for it and good luck to ya. Mock drafts do not reflect the diversity of opinions individual teams exhibit in how they rank players. Take mocks with a grain of salt. By draft night Mayfield was a clear #1, the Jets traded up early for Darnold because they were quite sure Mayfield was 1 and they were ok with Darnold. If not #1, the Jets clearly saw him as an ok #2. Even as the #3 QB, the Bills traded a LOT of draft capital to get Allen. As did the 49ers to get the #3 QB as they determine it. -

Chris Cooley, ex WFT tight end is a friend of Kyle Shanahan and he thinks they are taking Mac Jones as well. The Bills did. -
The one thing I hope we come out of the draft with is...
BubbaT replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
5 things: 1) a replacement 1 tech DT for Star in 2022 used as a rotational player in 2021 as he learns: 2) a replacement for Mitch Morse in 2022 used as a backup in 2021 at both G and C 3) a backup for Milano with the same skill set. Last year was tough when Milano was out; 4) CB2 high in the draft; 5) a developmental speed option WR or RB -
Don't know about round 1 but I'm still guessing they get their ultimate replacements for Star, Morse, Feliciano and Hughes in this draft. Not immediate replacements since the Bills are fighting for a Super bowl but guys to develop and have ready to replace them if they show enough in 2022. Quality upper end depth rather than mid level free agents. Cheap labor too.

The Athletic NFL offseason summary - high praise for Bills FO
BubbaT replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The best thing that could happen this year is if their high picks, Edwards and Oliver, become stars rather than just good players and Knox and Ford become good players rather than question marks. Development of their young players and adding to the base of "their drafted guys" will allow the rookies they add to grow and develop and do away with the need to hit the mid level free agency market every year. If that happens, we'll have sustained success and this front office will be transcendent.
