He’s the Carolina guy I think we sign. Gives Ford the chance to start at tackle. If Ford succeeds at Tackle, he can challenge Long at guard. If Ford plays guard, he can challenge Nsekhe at right tackle. Also, he’d probably come cheap. And with his injury history he might look fondly at Buffalo.

Honestly Williams was terrible this year. I get the Carolina connection, but the only position he can play is RT he failed repeatedly elsewhere as riverboat Ron tried to force a round peg into a square hole.

If you want a versatile guy who might be under the radar, how about NO Andrus Peat. Has played 50 games at a mixture of LT, LG, RG, RT. Two pro bowls in 2018 and 2019. Had a down year entering FA. He's a good buy low option.

The Bills went after Darryl Williams last year and he re-signed with Carolina, but wasn't good as he was used basically all over the OL.

Disagree.  He wasn't as good because  he's a different player following injury. He didn't deserve his 2nd team all pro at RT anyway because he had tons of help that year, but he was dire as LT and LG for the Panthers. He would be cheap, but with risk.

  3. The Bills were one of my least favorite teams growing up. As a teenager I followed the teams whose logos i liked which were the Vikings and Seahawks. After I came to America i followed my local team, the Panthers. I still do, though some of the cronyism drives me nuts. I followed McDermott when he left, and learned about the drought and I'm a sucker for an underdog story. When i saw the celebration that New Year it became impossible for me not to want them to do well. Now i follow the goings on in WNY with far more interest than Carolina.

I guess as a non-American, i don't carry guilt for my lack of loyalty to one franchise, but I'm not just a glory hunter.

I thought that was that Javelin kid?

Supposedly he may challenge John Ross' record.

Yeah. That's the insanity of the underpants Olympics. A guy with questionable football ability may challenge the combine 40 time because he's actually a sprinter. It would be funny if he does it and gets drafted.

He is my #2 center. Tyler Biadasz from Wisconsin is my #1. I think Ruiz will be a solid pro not sure I'd see him as the value at #22 but I am struggling at the moment for a pick I really love at that spot.

I'm curious about Biadasz. He's dropped to Round 4 on mocks. Apparently he was sensational his first two years but his tape has been awful this past year, since he had a hip injury. Are you projecting a turnaround for him Gunner?

  6. Round 1? Explain this to me. He was mocked  rd 5-7 in January. He didn't attend the senior bowl. How is he suddenly a first round prospect? What's changed in the two months since the end of the college season for his stock to go up so much? I get that he's been a consistent starter for a solid team but this looks like a 'trendy' pick to me. Bearing in mind that two excellent centers in McCoy and Jenkins went in the back end of the second last year.

    31. 49ers - Austin Jackson - OT - USC

A lot of people are mocking an interior offensive lineman to the 49ers but I am slightly bucking that trend by giving them a tackle. Left tackle Joe Staley is 35 and rumoured to be considering retirement. They could switch third year right tackle Mike McGlinchey over to protect Garoppolo's blindside and plug Jackson straight in on the right. They could also be a major trade down target if a team wants to get up for a Quarterback here (maybe Jacob Eason?) because after this pick the 49ers are not scheduled to pick again until round 5.

There's a lot about this mock that I like. Picks like the 49ers, make a lot of sense if you stop and think about it.

What annoys me with mocks is when people concensus draft and they all look broadly the same. After all these teams have multiple needs and their boards will all look different.

I think I agree that OTs are going to go earlier than people think. Not because they're necessarily that good but because I see several teams ( NYJ, CLE ) in particular who have a dire need at the position and will want one from the top tier which is thought to be OT1-OT4. If one or two teams in the top 6 surprise by going OT those teams in the early tens won't want to miss out.

I think the trade up of Miami with Detroit makes sense for both franchises, as does the trade back for Carolina who need more capital because they are losing so many guys in FA.

I think Dallas won't take a safety that high although it's an obvious need for them.

Fwiw I like the Higgins pick. Shenault's injury history is a red flag, but he's a good story and I wish the lad good fortune after all he's been through.

I don’t know what happens with Murphy, but I would almost rather have Shaq at $10 mil a year than Addison at $14 mil.

Norman would be great for a year. Could mean Bills don’t have to draft a CB till a later round .

It's cool that Shaq is finally getting to a point where he looks like he might have been worth a first round pick. But seriously, this was his best year 7.5 sacks. Addison is consistently on or above double digits sacks. He's a very strong run defender who rarely misses games. His age should ensure that he signs for around 10 mill per. Perhaps less. I think they way overestimated his value in this. He's way better than Shaq.

By the way Barnwell did this last year and correctly predicted Flacco to the Broncos. It's a cool format, and makes for interesting speculation.

Simmons can play ILB, which is a huge need and he is the complete top tier of LB in the draft.  I think he’s a stud and they’d be happy to have him drop.

You could be right. For me it's his versatility that made him special at Clemson and I can't see him being used like that in the NFL.

I can see Cam getting straight up released.  There’s a lot of rumor of that.

Maybe, but he's a (relatively) cheap former league MVP. If you cut him the dead cap is minimal 2M and you save 17M but you are letting a 30 year old walk for zero comp. Fromm would get murdered behind our OL. Allen won in Texas and Tennessee and led a 4th quarter drive to the 1 yard line in a blizzard in Green Bay. In a way it doesn't matter because the Panthers are expected to be bad next year, but I don't know if Fromm would be an improvement.

Can we please leave the Bills pick alone now?   I think all sides have gotten their point across now.

How about some feedback for you @Virgil from a Panthers fan?

Both your picks are commonly made for the Panthers but I think they don't really take on board the Panthers true needs. I'm biased on Simmons who is a great athlete who can play multiple positions on D, but is he really great at any of them? I think his value at college level won't translate to the NFL because he won't be used in the same way. I understand why you did it with Kuechly leaving but the Panthers gave a ridiculously rich contract to the average Shaq Thompson. They can't afford to overcommit to the LBs. I get it but don't like it.

I really hate the second pick of Fromm. Cam won't leave because they won't be able to get a decent return for him. We picked a.third rounder last year the dreadful Grier, and Kyle Allen did remarkably well with what he was given. Despite that you want to move up for another pocket QB to stick behind our.god awful Oline? yuck.

Carolina had historically bad run D this year. McCoy, Butler and Love are FA and the option won't be taken on Poe. They need Derrick Brown.

BTW thanks for the work you put into this!

  11. I'm not sold on Shenault. But missing on a receiver at 22 isn't the same as missing on a receiver in the top 5 after trading up. Especially if they pick 2 to hedge their bets. With Beane as GM there are also reasons to be hopeful that they can hit on later round picks. I have my preference but the Shenault pick would be completely understandable.

Someone asked on Marino's podcast who had the best hands and he came up with 2 guys one of whom- Pitman (USC) is a definite mid round guy.

I'm just telling you I don't see Beane making a trade involving a 1st round pick unless the player in question is regarded as a true game-changer

To be fair, Dallas traded a mid-first for Amari Cooper who was equally unproven at Oakland and you could make a reasonable argument that they were vindicated by his play. Of course now they may not be able to keep him....

He dosent score many Tds because of the presence of McCaffrey and we need a yac guy with size.

I could name multiple NFL teams with more than one blue Chip player where both players are consistent scoring threats. But if you choose to believe that Carolina's sole offensive strategy is CMC I won't try to dissuade you. They were definitely manufacturing touches to get him to the 1000/1000 mark, but it didn't stop DJ from topping 1000 yards receiving  it's a fact that he's not been prolific scoring TDs which is the problem Buffalo are trying to fix. Don't get me wrong DJ is doing fine but he's not without flaws.

  14. 9 minutes ago, Buffalo_Stampede said:

He won't. I'm a little confused why so many fans are against trading for DJ Moore though and would rather draft Tee Higgins.

Right. It would make no sense to trade Moore. However I can give you some reasons why I wouldn't want Buffalo to trade for him. He has had some problems with fumbles which have been extremely costly. In addition, he doesn't score many touchdowns and isn't a red zone threat. His route tree is limited and he's more of a YAC guy who stretches the field. Considering the QB situation at Carolina he did well this year, but I'm not sold on him yet.

  15. I think both sides of the argument for Laviska are pretty well laid out here. Joe Marino of TDN loves LS as the Bills pick and wrote about it today:

    https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/finding-the-right-wr-for-bills-to-target-in-2020-draft

I think I'm wary. I agree that he may take time to develop as a route runner. He reminds me a lot of DJ Moore who struggled with routes as a rookie and fumbled often.  The difference is Moore is an impressive athlete who tested well. On the other hand LS scores TDs and has good hands and YAC. That is what the Bills need.

Seems that if there was ever a year not to gamble on an injured, aging veteran receiver it is this year, with the best WR draft in years just a few months away. Whatever happened to the accepted wisdom of "building through the draft" and "keeping your players"? I'd rather use that money to keep Lawson and/or Phillips. Isn't signing a guy like Green the exact kind of "irresponsible decision making" that McDermott loathes?

The real argument for Green is not how much he costs but what are the facts about his injury? Is he battle ready or is he not? How much mileage is left? Is he the AJ Green of 2 or 3 years ago and does he have 3-4 years left in the tank? Or, is he the broken down vet that missed 29 games over the last 4 years?

Absolutely. AJ Green should come with a caveat.  Any contract should protect the buying team from his injury risk (short term, frontloaded, incentive based). I don't blame him for declaring that he will be upset if the Bengals franchise tag him. Obviously he wants a longer term commitment but he's a huge risk/reward guy in a WR draft. I think he will struggle to get what he wants.

I truly think a player to watch is Zack Baun. They call him Zack Sack, dude is 6’2” 240. I think an NFL club can easily get him closer to 250. Dude is quick off the ball, hard to block and is slippery. Wisconsin played him all over the field. Can drop back and stunt from a stand up edge rusher. 12.5 sacks senior year. Smart dude.

I get it, everyone wants a WR. This FO has made it clear they don’t believe in a true #1 WR is necessary in this league to be successful, they’ve said it. But also this defense is the heart and sole of the organization. Losing Lorax is a big deal. He was a more dynamic player then most give him credit for. The guy would line up over the OG and rush. The right LBs and a heavy DL rotation is what makes this defense work. Vosean Joseph is not Lorax replacement, won’t happen. Unless they just stop running most to all packages Lorax ran. OLB/Edge type players are not deep in this draft, especially ones who are good in pass coverage.
Zack Baun is that guy. He’s gonna run a 4.6 40 yard dash, be one of the quicker edge type guys and he will move up the boards. He’s already being talked about as a 25-32 late round 1 guy.

Baun reminds me of a poor mans Von Miller but better than Miller in the pass game.

Bills grab a legit WR at 54, maybe sneak up a couple spots (Ford) type move. Grab a CB in round 3.

People should really start watching, keeping their eye on Zack Baun.

Im all in on Baun.  Edmunds, Milano and Baun as our LB Corp would be amazing. Grab a guy like Yannick Ngakoue. Scary.

Id watch his highlights before replying. Dude flies around and makes plays. Of this style play, he’s by far the best in this draft.

Same school as TJ Watt. The guys at TDN love him but like him as OLB in 3-4. I read a few reports about him struggling with strength and leverage rushing the passer at the senior bowl. I would love him in the third but I think he might be a bit of a reach in the first 2 rounds.

For those saying we either dont want to or wont be able to sign big name talent. Do you think this roster as constructed is already good enough? Just need the guys we have to get better? Is that the approach. Allen gets better and only needs Knox/Kroft, Brown, Beasley and whatever other WR we keep. The OL as constructed is good enough? On Defense, we can lose Phillips, Shaq, Lorax and just plug in some cheap names and maintain the level of play. Oliver gets better and healthy H Phil help the DL.

For me its hard to see that team ever being more than a occasional playoff team. 7-9 one year and 10-6 another. Then Allen gets his new contract and we start have to cut back the talent level even more. Sounds like a losing proposition.

I prefer you have your centerpieces and bring in big level talent as needed. Rotate out some of the peripheral pieces as needed to make it work. You dont need a roster distribution that has very few at the top a ton in the middle and some at the bottom. Cut out out the middle and pad the top and bottom. Bottom either rises to top and is gone. They dont graduate to the middle.

     Splash signings are exciting for fans but they frequently don't work. Look at the 3 big receiver moves last year- Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, Odell Beckham. It's interesting to pull up a top free agents list from the past year and consider how many of them really had impactful years;

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001018706/article/2019-nfl-free-agency-updated-top-101-nfl-free-agents

From this list dated March the top 10; Leveon Bell, Earl Thomas, Trey Flowers, Nick Foles,  Landon Collins, Anthony Barr, CJ Mosley, Justin Houston, KJ Wright, Sheldon Richardson.

My point is that just trotting out the names of the highest priced and most sought after free agents isn't some kind of masterful plan that nobody else has thought of. This same conversations are being had on every fan forum. They should absolutely enquire- that's fine but most of these guys carry albatross contracts. Fans rarely consider the knock on effects of these guys getting injured or being bad scheme fits.

So sure, try to sign Ngakoue, but don't get into a bidding war with a blank check mentality. Don't be down on guys because they're second tier. Shaquil Barrett was the best FA signing from the past year.
