Notable cuts around the league
Seoulofstone replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not slow 4.48 at the combine Limited route tree and said to be a sloppy catcher is fair. But he hasn't played yet in the NFL. Why the cards selected him with Fitz, Kirk and Isabella I don't know. Once they took Hopkins Butler didn't have a chance. -
Many of the teams I saw him linked to were AFC Including the Jets. I bet they took a bit less to get him out of conference.
-
It's good for the Bills that he's gone to an NFC team. Always unlikely that he would come to the Bills with the cap freeze. It's unlikely that the vikes are better with Ngakoue if they lost Griffen, Diggs and their NT. New CBs too.

CBS power rankings..Cowboys 4th, Bills 26th?
Seoulofstone replied to mjd1001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's funny that his number 1 ranked training camp (Baltimore) acclaims a team who lost an all pro safety after a fight with a team mate. Yeah shouts out #1 to me. Several of the excerpts are downright lazy. Tennesee- can't be higher because they haven't signed Clowney. Huh? Don't click on this article it's absolute trash. I wish I hadn't wasted my time. -
Ah yes that is certainly true. He does tend to be unwavering once he takes a stance on a player. Oddly the exception to that rule maybe Josh Allen.

Joe Marino's podcast on ST said the opposite. I can't remember where he sourced his stats but he said that Bojo was statistically a liability on pinning opponents inside the 20, which is how I remembered it. In addition his hangtime was bad so that when he boomed one it would outkick the coverage.

Jets offense vs backups in their scrimmage today

Bell can't be any happier after they added Ballage. I doubt he will last much longer. -
Youse ready for part deuce?

This thread is gold. -
Great post. The same thing happened 2 years ago with the Panthers. Drafted Butker. They put him on the practice squad where he was immediately poached by Kansas who had wanted to draft him. Now Butker who was considered to have lost the camp battle with Gano, is the highest points scorer in the league in 2019. Gano was cut this off-season having struggled to stay fit since they reupped him . At the time fans spoke with great wisdom about how Gano looked better, how he was a known quantity. Fans don't know squat. Panthers couldn't bring themselves to let him go even though the cap saving made more sense. It's looking a bad decision now. Bass will likely miss kicks this year. But if he can be the future for 10-15 years it will be worth it.

Earl Thomas On His Way Out Of Baltimore (Edit: now cut)

Are you expecting Vernon Butler to be a problem then? He flipped off Panthers fans for getting on his back. -
Bills have Ziggy Ansah on their radar
Seoulofstone replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. My point is let's not act surprised that Beane hasn't picked up a young DE this summer. The Bills have upcoming homegrown contracts, reduced cap next year due to covid which plays into what they can do now. We would all love a good and young DE, but those two (Clowney and Ngakoue) have worse sack numbers than Addison and cost (or at least are asking) twice as much. Saying Beane just doesn't like young players (and I realise this was said somewhat jokingly) is simplyfying. -

Weird that productive DEs under the age of 30 aren't readily available. Go figure -
Not trying to knock Di Marco at all, but would you say he is so good that he's irreplaceable? It seems to me that he might be the safe option for now but he is older, more expensive and average. Farewell recruited, Matakevich, Klein and Taiwan Jones who all have made noticeable ST contributions over the years. In a numbers game would you choose Di Marco over these guys?

I thought the ST podcast was one of Marino's best recently. He had some very interesting comments on personnel turnover (it's high in ST) and how it affects bubble players when the roster is set. Di Marco was a key player in ST last year in percentage of snaps played and one of McD preferred veterans. That said how much drop off will there really be? I have no comment on his effectiveness one way or the other, but I thought that Marino mentioning that Gilliam excels at blocking punts and was a core college ST player shows us that that is likely to be his path to the roster if he has one. With the cap going down and upcoming contracts as well as Star's deferred contract it's smart to look for young guys who can be cheap and do the job. For cap reasons and making the team younger give me Bass>Haushcka and Gilliam>Di Marco.

Didn't the Chargers just pick at the #5 position in the draft? Their personnel definitely should be doing better but it's a bit of a stretch to have them at #1 D.

Josh Norman Giving High Praise to the Bills
Seoulofstone replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd love to reread the thread where he was hired. Has it been archived? I tried the search facility but no dice. -
Odd that all of that top 5 lost a key run defender. Steelers-Hargrave, Bills-Lotulei, Ravens-Pierce, 49ers-Buckner. Vikings-Joseph. The Vikings lost a ton of guys, Xavier Rhodes, Trae Wayne's, Mackenzie Alexander were 3 starting CBs along with Joseph, Sendejo, Weatherley and very likely Griffin. Zimmer has been good but that's a big turnover on D.

Revisiting Clowney & a Look at Logan Ryan
Seoulofstone replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Clowney 'could' be a blue chip edge rusher. I don't feel like he's really developed and improved since he entered the league. He was second fiddle to Watt in Texas and Seattle wasn't a fit either. I would like to see him as a 4-3 DE under a really good defensive coach and DC. He would be an intriguing fit at Buffalo but my big issue with him is that he seems to have convinced himself that hes already a premier DE which he isn't. Myles Garrett got paid and the first thing he said is it's time to REALLY prove it. That man has drive. He knows he can be better than he's shown. Clowney just wants to be paid and that is why many fans don't want him. He will go somewhere like the jets and be misused again with occasional flashy games . I think Logan Ryan is really good. But slot corner is a position which the Bills cover adequately without spending. Second outside corner is much more desirable especially if you don't believe in Norman. So both of these guys are arguably unnecessary upgrades. -
What are the expectations of Mario Addison?
Seoulofstone replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he will get 10 sacks and be an important contributor. I trust McD, Frasier and Washington's judgement more than ScottLaw and Gunner's. -
More 5th year players contracts not picked up
Seoulofstone replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And Denver didn't pick up OT Garrett Bolles either. Actually there's quite a few. Solomon Thomas, Corey Davis, Reuben Foster, Gareon Conley all declined. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/fifth-year-option-tracker-nfl-2017-first-round-draft-picks/v40gaykwau6119wyjwqo9zoak -
Who Do You Want the Bills to Pick in Round 4?
Seoulofstone replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ben Bartch. Replacement strategy for Nsekhe. He won't last until the Bills pick though... -
What's a unique/hot draft take that you hold to?
Seoulofstone replied to whatdrought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's likely that all of the top 4 OTs are disappointments relative to their fanbases expectations and their draft positions. Despite this there will be wild rejoicing by those fanbases immediately after the draft and wild declarations of OL dominance for years to come. -
He got his contract @ Chicago off the Eagles Superbowl season but was never likely to live up to that contract. He's mediocre and as such wouldn't upgrade the Bills. Its interesting that Burton has fans but Howard who has shown quite a bit more is considered washed by some people. I can see the attraction of picking him up for free versus trading for Howard but I'm just not a fan of Burton.
