Also in the “you can’t be serious” category: Sabres pushing trips at $4000+ to go to Germany to see a couple games that includes a preseason game??? -
2024 New York Yankees..........on to the World Series for 41st time
US Egg replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in Off the Wall
Losing all 3 series to O's, Braves and Dodgers....a bit of an ouch. The near record of quality starts have been carrying them imo. Stay around .600 for the duration and all is well. -
What did Spartacus say when the lion ate his wife? He was gladiator.

MLB to integrate Negr0 League statistics into official MLB stats
US Egg replied to Roundybout's topic in Off the Wall
It was not a myth or exaggeration that he assaulted African Americans on more than one occasion. He had charges filed against him and fled town to avoid arrest on one occasion. In that case a civil lawsuit was filed. Cobb agreed to settle out of court in order to receive a lesser charge. There was a road rage incident involving an African American in which he was arrested for. There was another incident in 1924 where he violently assaulted a ticket taker. Call it what you will….. -

It was great how they made the game a backdrop, or secondary, and the stories, interviews and honors were at the forefront throughout the broadcast. I agree that baseball is in a better place now. The influx of global talent is great, and needed. Ohtani has reinvigorated fans all around the world. He just hit a home run as I typed this ! The rule changes made were all home runs imo, though a few might need a tweak or two. -

I watched the He was on the game tonight honoring the ***** leagues. What an uplifting individual. There were a lot of moving moments throughout the broadcast, it was a great tribute. This game should be an annual event. But, needless to say, it can never be enough. On a side note, it didn’t dawn on me who Josh Gibson topped as the all time batting average leader until they said it during the broadcast. In a sad case of irony, Gibson passed the immortalized Ty Cobb, whose past is abhorrent, to say the least, regarding racist behavior. -
Gotta have the song: …..it was one of those songs I liked, but, as a sophomore or Jr. in high school, I wouldn’t dare admit to it.

It’s not a stretch to say Mays would have hit 700 home runs were it not for that time lost. Same could also be said of Ted Williams, he missed almost 5 seasons due to the service. While I still watch the game, for me the HR hitters of today don’t have the allure, and lore, of the greats of the past. …..except Ohtani.
-
Just to put his greatness in perspective, Mays came in the same year as Mantle, 1951. He matched Mantle’s stats when Mantle retired in ‘68. Then hit another 100 home runs.

How would Buffalo perform with Kirk Cousins?

Now that’s a thread that has been done. -
Few can make a case as the greatest. Willie Mays can.
