  1. As a HC he shot himself in the foot with bad DCs. I always felt bad for him from that perspective. Wanny and George Edwards really let him down. That and he tied himself to Fitz when he clearly was not a long term answer.
  2. Ryan Seacrest is an NFL coach now!? How much **** does he suck to get these gigs?
  3. Call me crazy, but I didn’t really mind Dennison when he was here.
  4. I hope their organization thinks that way, maybe we could get AB for a 2.
  5. Much of playing receiver in today’s NFL is finding the soft spots in a zone defense. He can sure as heck fight for the ball. I could see him being really effective in the slot, where he could also be a dominant run blocker out of passing formations. The lack of speed would keep me from playing him outside.
  6. Tre White has made more game changing plays in 2 seasons than Gilmore has made in his career.
  7. Can’t believe people turning on Brown so quickly. There is clearly more to the story than we are being told.
  8. Quick google proves you wrong: Jeffery pulled down a diving catch in the second quarter that Foles threaded between safety Patrick Chung and Gilmore, the Patriots’ corner who played three seasons with Jeffery with the Gamecocks after coming to Columbia as part of a program-changing recruiting class under Steve Spurrier. Yeah, I’m sure it wasn’t Gilmore’s fault Eagles ran at 6.1 yards a clip either. He’s the same player he was in Buffalo, except they ignore his defensive holding in New England. He is a hack in coverage, blames everyone else when he gets burned, and is putrid against the run.
  9. I still think Gilmore sucks. He’s lucky to play against scrub receivers 6 times a year in the AFC East. Shredded by Foles in the Super Bowl.
  10. I completely disagree. By other metrics that have been posted on TBD, our receivers are creating the least amount of separation in the NFL. That would in turn suggest that Josh is forced to throw the ball away at the highest rate in the NFL AND gives the defense the best opportunity to successfully defend his passes since they are closer to the receiver when the ball is released than they are against all other teams. This is negatively skewing his completion % considerably in comparison to the average of the rest of the NFL. Get him some receivers that can separate and catch and his completion percentage will dramatically improve. For a while I thought O-Line upgrades would help the most, but as this season played out I’ve come to see that the receiver situation is our biggest handicap. Josh’s pocket awareness and mobility mitigates much of the line weakness, we need open receivers.
  11. I would venture a guess that it has to do with overall improved parity in the league this year. Many teams were in the hunt down the stretch. It wasn’t just non-stop coverage of the Patriots this year. Last year it felt like there were only a few contenders. Even the bad teams were interesting to watch because of the rookie QBs, Saquon Barkley and Gruden. Fitzmagic was back for a few weeks. It was an entertaining year in football. Most of last season wasn’t interesting. KC and LA (the season long favorites in each conference) were two must watch teams as well.
  12. I give Beane a lot of credit, it takes balls to blow the whole thing up. I give Sean McDermott even more credit for turning chicken **** into chicken salad. If McDermott failed to be competitive with the crap roster, then they both would have likely been fired yesterday. Very ballsy, if not totally idiotic, risk to take, but it has now paid off in spades. Think about it, the most likely outcome of blowing it up was that our team would have sucked for 2 years, they would “lose the locker room”, and the next coach and GM would be the ones to get to start from scratch from Beane’s picks and cap space. Sean has built a tremendous culture here in Buffalo. It wouldn’t have been possible with the old roster. The fact that he has mostly been able to clean up the run defense with scheme in years one and two blows me away. I think they nailed the Allen pick, which was another huge risk based on his draft profile. In fact, Allen’s play has impressed me even more than McDermott and Beane. He was handed the keys to one of the worst offenses I have ever seen and has made it work. If he came in and failed, like they set him up to do, then the three of them may have been gone. The most challenging seasons for Beane, McDermott and Allen are now behind us. There’s not much left to purge, they just have to sign and draft their people to start filling out the holes on this roster.
  13. IIRC Emanuel Sanders dissed Ben on the way out and Santonio Holmes may have as well. I’m giving AB the benefit of the doubt. He would be an ideal receiver for Josh Allen btw. I’ve never seen anything from AB on the field that would make me question his character.
  14. I just did some quick math based on taking his stats post injury and projecting them to a 16 game season. 3300 yards passing 1200 yards rushing 35 TDs (rushing and passing combined) Pretty impressive play from Josh...
  15. Anyone remember how long it took to announce the firing of Dennison? Might be a similar time frame.
  16. If he started all 16 games he would have been on pace for ~25 TDs (rushing + passing) for the year as a rookie, not too shabby. It’s interesting, even in the highlights video you can see the growth and development that happened in year one.
  17. Seems like there is no critical thinking here, people have wanted to pile on Cousins before he played a down in Minnesota. I’d say the biggest difference from last year is that their division got a whole lot better. Chicago went from being a garbage team last year to a Super Bowl contender this year. Green Bay didn’t have Aaron Rodgers for the bulk of last year. The Lions were terrible and the coach got fired. This adds up to Minnesota basically winning the division by default a year ago. Last year was a lucky fluke for them and Cousins still outplayed Case Keenum this year. All that said, it was Cousins who made the mistake of choosing Minnesota, not Minnesota making the mistake of choosing Cousins.
  18. Do they do anything to detract from the QBs who have better receivers that catch less accurate passes? I think as long as the receiver catches the pass these stats credit the QB as having thrown an accurate pass. If said QB threw the same pass on the Bills, it would fall incomplete and count against the QB. Even with the effort you speak of, the dreadful receiver situation in Buffalo drastically skew Josh’s numbers negatively. I regularly see our receivers not even get their hands on passes that receivers on other teams like Antonio Brown adjust to and pull in with ease.
  19. I’m sorry, but I don’t trust the subjectivity involved in such an analysis. As others have pointed out in past weeks, other QBs frequently have receivers make tough catches. I doubt they take those completions from other QBs and account for the fact that the same pass in terms of catch radius would be incomplete to our receivers. It’s like the Detroit game where they gave Stafford a far better QBR than Allen. Well guess what, Allen was the better QB and the Bills won. Stafford got lucky on a couple 50/50 balls against Tre White. I trust what I see over what I’m told.
  20. His completion percentage will go up when we have guys who can get open and he doesn’t have to throw the ball away. The fact that he can routinely scramble for 4-5 seconds and still have nobody open is a glaring indictment of the receivers. I’ve seen plenty of QBs I would call inaccurate, Josh is not one of them. Sucks that the narrative continues based solely on stats. If I had to rank the root causes of his incompletions it would go something like this: 1. Pass intentionally thrown away 2. Receiver failed to make a play 3. Pass defended 4. Pass misfired 5. Miscommunication
  21. Disagree on the last part. With EJ it was EJ holding back the other 10 guys on offense. Right now, the other 10 guys are holding Josh back. EJ didn’t give guys good opportunities to make plays. Josh is giving out great downfield opportunities left and right and our current crew can’t finish.
  22. That’s my biggest hope too. Get him some consistent downfield threats. From a player perspective, in the physical mold of an AJ Green or Martavis Bryant. Allen would unleash Hell on the opponent with those tall, fast receivers.
  23. I remember EJ hanging all his receivers out to dry. He had real accuracy issues. Telegraphed his throws. No pocket presence. Surprisingly weak arm. Couldn’t keep the deep ball in bounds. Didn’t see defenders in the area he would throw to. Checked down all the time on third down. Could not complete passes to wide open receivers. I remember Whaley basically saying they drafted him because he physically looked like a quarterback. For people comparing him to Josh, I’d be real interested to see the comparison of air yards per attempt. It’s like people don’t realize it is a lot harder to complete 20 yard throws in stride than 2 yard throws to stationary targets. It’s easy to see the difference in Josh Allen to past QBs just by the way the other team plays. Defenses are finally not crowding the line of scrimmage to stuff runs and short passes. So long offenses of Trent, EJ, Tyrod, and Fitz.
  24. Biggest frustration for me is that the guys around Josh on offense came out flat. Other teams play the Pats or a hated division rival and they come out with extra fire and grit. These guys on offense looked like they were going through the motions. Very disappointing. Poor effort.
