I think he’s telling the truth and lying at the same time. I think he desperately wants to trade up and grab a marquise QB but doesn’t want to tip his hand, and he is also truthful when he says he doesn’t know what he’s going to do because until the draft starts, and the picks are made and phone calls start flying back and forth, he has no idea what he will do.

Ingram and Kamara make less combined than Hyde does with his new contract. It just seems like a big contract for Hyde to be a change of pace back.

I just checked RB salaries and with Hyde’s new contract he is the 11th highest paid back in the league. I don’t see that as a change of pace contract.

A 3 year, $15 million change of pace back? I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on RB salaries but that seems pretty steep.

I don’t see the Giants taking Nelson if Barkley is there. The Giants O-line is a mess and Nelson is the best guard in the draft, but I don’t know if you would use the #2 overall pick on a guard. If you’re right and the Giants do take Nelson at 2, I think you can forget about the Colts trading out of the 3 spot. They will snatch up Barkley in a hot second to pair with and take the heat off Luck.

The original point of my post was that the Browns signing Hyde makes it less likely they go Barkley at 1. They gave Hyde $15 million over three years. That’s not “change of pace” RB money.

I see it differently. If the Browns go QB at 1, I think their pick at 4 is in play. I don’t see the Giants trading out of the 2 spot. They either grab Barkley, or they snag the #1 QB on their board to slide in behind an aging Eli. Then Gettleman will have his franchise QB for the next ten years.

If the Browns go Barkley at 1, they’re going qb at 4. Giants grab Barkley at 2 and that only leaves Colts at 3 to trade with. If Browns go QB at 1, then the Giants grab Barkley at 2. That leaves possibility of Colts at 3 to trade with and Browns at 4 to trade with. Better for us if Browns go QB at 1.

I would think the Bills will have a 1a and 1b on their board when it comes to qb. There is always a risk someone takes your guy, but the bigger risk is not getting into the top four to pick at all.

I agree having two solid RBs is important in today’s game. The Browns now have three. With backfields it’s usually a Thunder and Lightning arrangement. Hyde is Thunder and Duke Johnson is Lightning. Barkley is an electrical storm all by himself. It just seems redundant to have a third back when they have so many other holes to fill on their 0-16 roster.

The Browns have a lot of cap space but they have a lot of holes to fill too. Barkley can do it all, run, pass protect, and catch passes. The only time he’s coming off the field is for a quick breather now and then. I just don’t think they need Duke Johnson and Carlos Hyde to split the handful of snaps a game he’s not on the field.

The Browns wouldn’t have signed Carlos Hyde if they were going to draft Barkley. It makes no sense to have Barkley, Hyde, and Duke Johnson all on the roster. This is great news for the Bills! I think Beane wants to trade up, and he has the ammo, but they need to find a dance partner. We need to get one of the first four picks because I think the Broncos and Jets are both going qb and and there is no guarantee our qb will be there after that. (I don’t think the Jets would deal with us anyways). If the Browns take Barkley with the 1st pick, they will use the 4th pick to snag their qb, so picks 1 and 4 are gone. Do the Giants pass on the best qb on their board with an aging Eli? Dicey at best. That leaves only one pick left to try and trade up for, the Colts at 3. If the Browns take a qb with the 1st pick, I don’t think the Giants can pass on Barkley at 2. That leaves the Colts at 3 again and the Browns at 4. I think the Browns would be more likely to deal that pick with their qb already in the fold and Barkley gone.
