  1. damned straight. Von Miller + Chubb
  2. Fox said the Bills are trying to hold on to 22
  3. Where did I hear that the Browns would take Mayfield #1 over all? yeah, that's right. I said it, a month ago.
  4. I think you might be working under a misunderstanding. These aren't the days where the first pick in the draft needed to be negotiated; the GM isn't asking three guys who wants to take what in terms of contracts and then the first pick is essentially signed days in advance. Rooks are slotted. So the top picks have remarkable flexibility. I don't think there has been a single trade like the Jets made since 2011.
  5. Let's hope that AJM gives the rookie the space to grow. I just hope our OC/QB coach have the ability to help them grow into the NFL. Not everyone is gets shot out of the cannon like Russell Wilson or Matt Ryan.
  6. If you told me the Bills couldn't draft Mayfield or Rosen, but they'd get Derwin James as a consolation prize and keep their remaining picks I'd be pretty damned pleased. It would almost certainly mean that some idiot put Josh Allen in the first 5 and probably, overdrafted Sam Darnold as well.
  7. First ... as I've always said: Baker Mayfield, #1 overall ... for literally a month or more. Second ... there is and has always been too much smoke around this choice. Baker is physically similar to the incumbent and plays, despite what you think, a remarkably similar game. The GM has said that this was the player he personally scouted five times before he was even named GM. Their team is most aligned with statistical analysis and Baker Mayfield isn't just the best QB statistically this year, he's among the best over the last 20 years. Finally, he has played protective ball his entire life and this is a team that just took on the most protective NFL QB. There's this: he's the second best QB in this draft and the Browns long ago took Josh Rosen off their board. Finally, the Buffalo Bills suddenly decided to go to the West Coast in mid-April to see Sam Darnold. The only thing that changes the mock board significantly is if Baker Mayfield goes #1. It changes the Jets from Mayfield to Rosen and leaves Darnold open to being taken at 4 or below - a price/value ratio that Beane can swallow. (People have said here that the Bills were rumored to have loved Darnold all along. Maybe - but they never were going to be in the market to get to #1 and probably, #2.)
  8. Of course, Nick Chubb also has injury issues. What a backfield ... possible that neither of them get to play extensively in the NFL.
  9. Geez, I know a certain team that's drafted a QB in the first round twice this decade; expand it to first to third round, they've drafted 5 QBs in the last 7 years. They've drafted a QB first overall in their history. I think their last "franchise QB" was ... who? Norm Snead? Otto Graham? Sure as heck longer than us. Point is, it's not always about taking chances on QBs. It's about drafting the right players, generally. Then you can take a chance on a little scrambling guy from Wisconsin in the 3rd round because you've already built a TEAM.
  10. If my team had a 1 and 4 I'd be pissed and I'd be even more pissed if they were trading one of those picks away
  11. would it be panicking if he took Josh Allen at 12, when an immediate impact, All-Pro player was available? Call that guy Nelson, or Ward, or Edmunds. I don't care.
  12. The Huddle Report ranks these guys as among the top draftniks out there. I know, I know, it's like one more bite of turkey and stuffing at Thanksgiving. But i hadn't seen it posted much, so here you go. [edit: posted just the top 32; notable about Ward to me. It's not unusual for a DB picked that high, Ward is nearly universally thought of as "that good" but almost never mocked about 8 if not 10. http://draftboardguru.com/top100/ 1 Josh Allen QB Wyoming rJR 1 2 Saquon Barkley RB Penn State jr 1 3 Bradley Chubb Edge N.C. 13. The idea of the Patriots moving up to somewhere just south of 7 isn't wrong. I just don't see the dance partner as the team looking to replace Reuben Foster. (In fact, I don't see Chicago moving either, for the same reason.) If you were talking the Packers, the Ravens ... maybe so. They might easily find Josh Allen waiting for them in the middle 10 spots.
  14. My mock has 7. Buffalo, Sam Darnold QB (TB gets 12, 53, 65; Bills also get a later round pick) 16. Buffalo, Rashaad Evans, LB (Balt gets 22, 96 and the later round pick from TB) 56. Austin Corbett, G potentially Tyrell Crosby who I think goes at the top of R2. Preference here would have been Ragnow or Price, if available, at 56 I have the top 6 picks as Mayfield/Barkley/Rosen/Chubb/Nelson/Edmunds (Edmunds to the 49ers on a trade/Indy picks 9th). FWIW, Josh Allen, 13th, to the NEP.
  15. First of all, there is only a top 3. Not a top 4 (sorry Bandit). And only two QBs actually deserve to be picked anywhere near the top 10 and I am being incredibly generous. Let's say 4 QBs go before 8. This means the 4th best positional player is available at 8,9,10 and you simply have a mass of drafting capital. There are worse things in the world, believe me. Like using 3 draft picks to maneuver to take Josh Allen. Among your possibilities: it's possible that the best interior lineman in 25 years is waiting. You could have a shot at Derwin James, who isn't just "some cornerback". Do you have any use for a guy that is nearly 6-6", weighing 255, that runs nearly a sub 4-five with wingspan like Antonio Gates playing LBer (by the way, he hasn't finished growing yet!). I'm betting that between those three guys alone you have a better shot at altering the future angle of your organization than you do even picking my favorite player, Baker Mayfield or Josh Rosen. And oh yeah. It's not like there are NO quarterbacks left. Chances are pretty good the most explosive, game changing athlete in the draft at QB will be waiting at 22.
  16. Never seen a pass completed from the Injured Reserve. Josh Rosen has a perfect record: He's never seen a season he's completed without injury. Real life GMs, they take that into consideration in a BIG way. Last guy this "pro-ready" with such an injury record? Some guy named Sam Bradford. You put that kid, behind our offensive line, as constituted, and you have a massacre. At the end of the day, in my mock I'd still move up to take him - but not beyond 5 or possibly, 7. You better have some picks to fill out that offensive line (not to mention, a QB for the defense).
  17. If we hadn't pursued this path, based on at least one mock draft the 21st and 22 picks would have been McGlinchey and Daniels. Later picks in that mock included Hernandez and Wynn. Both reasonable at those picks. Hence a starting lineup of ... RT McGlinchey OR Dawkins RG Dawkins AND Isaiah Wynn C Daniels LG Groy/Miller/ LT Glenn Nearly all of that offensive line is under 26; very underpaid, with annual savings likely to exceed $30,000,000 or much, much more. I think it's a top 10 offensive line, maybe better. Yes, you'd still have Tyrod and that's sub-optimal. But you'd have the second round to address the QB position. Having a line that goes Dawkins, Wynn and Daniels would probably be really, really special. Feh. Let's not play what if, but yeah. there's a lot of pressure in my mind. They need to get this right.
  18. True enough. He certainly was pretty dismissive of OC/coaches - I just felt like he was tossing some massive shade Daboll's way. Was I overreacting? Maybe but I don't think so and I thought he was taking the stance of making an informed statement.
  19. No doubt. I don't think 40 time has anything to do with it. Mayfield simply doesn't run. He's quick enough to tuck, duck and move for 5-20 yards. He is committed to the downfield pass. Eventually a good OC will train that out of him or he will fail miserably in the NFL.
  20. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they contacted the Bucs. That is a sensible and I think their pick is the pivotal one between 6 an 10. They could easily move down, get a great running back and help to fill out the roster plus it wouldn't cost the Bills #22 to get there. As to whether or not they are interested in Mayfield ... I think I'd have a hard time believing Brandon Beane would be so foolish as to let on to another GM a specific name he might be interested in - especially so early in the game. I mean, he might say something, but it strikes me as disinformation. Thanks for sharing.
  21. Well, um ... yeah. That's his calling card. Accuracy. I'm not worried terribly about anybody's 40 yard time; it's about their 5 yard time, ability to reset his feet and make a throw and keep his head downfield. Point of the matter is, Mayfield was at his best under pressure. Brees' college numbers, for reference. 22. First, the Niners are NOT going to pass on a LBer. That just isn't going to happen with Foster about 20 seconds from being let go - and them needing a LB anyways. Second, that they'd go from 9th to the bottom third of the draft - especially when 3 of the 8 picks up until that point were QBs? And we are supposed to be moving up to 5 to take Allen and NOT Rosen? This is some joke of a mock draft retro-fitting moves to fit a solution he had pre-programmed into his brain. Total BS.
  23. How much do you discount not being able to complete one full season out of three tries? Last QB I remember coming into the NFL so notably well-equipped to play the game but with such an injury past was ... Sam Bradford. I've never seen a pass completed from the Injured Reserve.
