  1. that's what he implied association football. RUG and SOC in the papers. So in a way the Americans are keeping an old English tradition alive by calling it soccer. So the Football field goal is the relative of the traditional soccer goal, or kick in rugby. And the touchdown is the relative of the try in rugby. The difference being how the ball crosses the goal line (carried or kicked). Rugby and football have two planes, a ground level one and an elevated one. So in terms of evolution it would be SOC, RUG, Football SOC - no hand touching, must kick the ball over the opponents goal, kicks to advance the ball /no pass, goal is ground level, free flow RUG - hand touching allowed, may kick or carry the ball over the opponents goal, kicks or laterals may advance the ball, goal is ground level and elevated, free flow Football - hand touching is prioritized, may kick or carry the ball over the opponents goal, laterals and forward passes used (I think a kick still can), goal is ground level and elevated, down and distance mechanism replaces free flow this ended up being an interesting post after all
  2. The Dakota added punch to your joke since it was discontinued 9 years ago! ? 9 winters is hard on any vehicle in WNY! Good posts here overall, had a good chuckle to both. Go see my last post in the draft needs thread so we can start disagreeing again. This feels weird agreeing with you!
  3. I agree with most of the assessments in the OP post. OL is still a work in progress IMO. 1-2 improvements could and should be made. I think Buffalo has one good T, G and C. 1 OT and 1 OG are still needed for improvement. An athletic OG that can help with the screen game and who could pull for a counter would be a big help in the offense. Spain and Feliciano are not pulling guards. I like Feliciano for what he is and he provides a valuable backup at C. Buffalo has the third most FA $ in the league. Spend on one side of the ball and draft the other. With Josh Allen entering his third year, this is the year to spend close to the cap. Since the Defense was a top 5 unit, and McDermott is a a defensive coach I think Defensive FA's may be easier to sign than Offensive FA's. Go with your strengths. I would spend for proven studs on Defense and keep that unit in the top 5, and maybe improve upon it. It will help reduce the pressure on the offense while they continue to develop the draftees around Josh. I'd let Shaq Lawson go, and put a non-exclusive franchise tag on DT Phillips. DT is one of the 4-5 cheapest positions in the league to tag and that includes K and P. if a team wants to give Buffalo 2 1st round picks for Jordan Phillips then great! It also prevents a valuable producer from walking away for nothing. DT is a smaller cap hit versus other tags that could be placed, and keeps the DTs together with Harry coming back. As for OLB I really like Bud Dupree (26) and Matt Judon (27) as instant impact starters to replace Lorax. Remember Lorax was a terrific pass rusher his first couple of years here. It will be expensive, but at 90 million under the cap it not only fills, but improves a hole in the roster and makes it younger. Dupree/Judon, Edmunds and Milano is a very nice LB corps, that allow all sorts of mixes in 2 and 3 LB looks. At DE I make Yannick Ngakoue (24) an offer he can't refuse. I mentioned him a year ago as my #1 FA for 2020. He had 41 tackles, 8 sacks, 4 Forced Fumbles, and an INT in a down year. Jacksonville is in cap hell (currently over the cap) and Jacksonville is a mess. Having a natural pass rusher opposite Jerry Hughes will help both out. Jerry was at his best when Mario Williams was on the other side, and Jerry still gets pressure. I'd keep Murphy too. He was really coming on with disruptive plays at the end of the season, and would be a very good rotational/ backup. With the draft I go best WR/OL/RB and even double down on any of those positions as my top 4 picks. Cherry pick talent after that. Why? No need to blow a load on Derrick Henry or Kareem Hunt. Gordon (27) was worse than his backup. Hyde (28) has 1-2 good years left, maybe if the price was right. The other top RB FA's are over 30. Draft another RB in the 3rd or 4th round to compliment Singletary. The best FA WRs are mostly old: Green (31), Sanders (33), Cobb (30), Amendola (34), D Thomas (32). Why would you pair a 23 yr old QB with a high priced WR that may or may not have 1-2 years left? Among the younger FA WRs we have Perriman (26) who has a catch percentage barely above Zay Jones. Do Devin Funchess (26) or Robby Anderson (27) excite anyone? Draft one or many WRs. Amari Cooper is the only WR I would roll the dice on, and that will probably get very very expensive. The best FA this year are on the Defensive side of the ball. A bunch of very good producers in or entering their peak years. Buffalo is becoming known for Defense again, has some holes there and money to spend with a QB in yr 3 of his rookie contract. Being in the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years must mean something to a FA. I'm happy 2 Bills starters on Defense made it to the Pro Bowl, it should make attracting defensive FA easier. This is the year to spend a bunch of the cap and ride the next 3 years out with our best foot forward.
  4. I disagree with almost everything you post, but I got a good and hearty chuckle out of this. Cheers! Now you've done it.... why are you making fun of me? And it's a Dakota thank you very much...
  5. tragically close to the Bills history.... 0-4 in Super Bowl and 10 AFC East titles.....
  6. Some real gem replies from the peanut gallery in here regarding the SB being played on Saturday.
  7. Hard to gauge, and I was no fan of Rosen pre draft. Kyler Murray (and Kingberry) made Arizona at least competitive. Fitzpatrick took the land of misift toys and did what Allen and McDermott can't do (win in New England) Rosen may actually benefit from having to sit in a few different schemes. Check the attitude, learn and absorb. Some guys have bounced around a bit and had good careers. Rich Gannon comes to mind. Heck even Favre and Steve Young had to get shipped off and sit before they became successful. Yeah AZ and Miami were not ideal, but was Buffalo ideal in season 1? How about the Jets? Plenty of good QBs land in bad situations, that is where god college QBs often go. Some survive and thrive, others don't. To early to write the book on any of the QBs from that class yet.
  8. Yep, didn't the Titans beat the Chiefs once this year in a close high scoring game? But a SBI rematch up seems all too fitting. I see the Bills much more on the path of the 49ers and Titans. Strong Defenses, run game and a QB that does just enough.
  9. Backup to the right Josh is aok with me.
  10. Man I love Mongo. Was amped about the signing, said he would be one of the best lower FA signings. Can play G or C at an above average level with a torn rotator cuff injury? What a beast. I like this dude and want him to retire a Bill. Get well Mongo! I may also owe Ford a bit of an apolology, and the surgery to Oliver helps explain the up and down year. I hope all three come back stronger and better than ever. The fact these three dudes bought in in their first year in the Red White and Blue and played through gives me chills and hope! Go Bills!
  11. Correct, bring in another OG and OT to complete with the starters. May the best 5 shake out. Allen was running for his life multiple times in the second half, or had no chance. The OL improved, but it is not a finished product by any means. IMO the results were one year ahead of the roster rebuild which is a good thing.
  12. I'm all for a team with championship aspirations to look to improve anywhere possible. Yes Barkley was done no favors by the O-line (dreadful), and most skill positions not named Sweeney or Duke, but he looked more like the Barkley the rest of the league knows than the one that wowed Bills fans in New York last year. I'm very interested in an improvement.
  13. Click the Youtube link, and you can see it on Youtube. The message is Youtube blocking content from being streamed by other sites. This game is forgotten. In 1988 the Bills were also a Defense first team, with a rookie RB, and a young strong armed QB who was figuring it out in the NFL. It was after this game against the Houston Run and Shoot, and the loss to Cincinnati who befuddled a very good Bills Defense with the no huddle, that Buffalo turned to the No Huddle offense, and a run was started.
  14. Word just came in that he is old and injury prone...... There is no cure
  15. He had 10 carries with 1 fumble with the Bills, I know small sample size. I believe he also had 2 fumbles at least in the preseason on however many touches he had. He may have a normal NFL avg fumble history, but the coaching stuff has seen a high fumble guy since coming to OBD.
  16. I like the line of thinking, but his catch to target ratio is on par with Zay Jones, So I would pass. But I like the line of thinking.
  17. Phillips is a FA but I want him here IMO I aso think Liguet may only be a 1 yr deal
  18. There is a reason he has been an NFL flop after a very good collegiate career. His best game of his his career was last year vs the Jets.
  19. If your starters Dawkins and Ford are sitting, and then you all want Ty sitting, then just who do you play at OT?? This isn't an expanded pre-season roster, please geniuses share your wisdom Derp, Derp, Derp
  20. Yep, Bates has been beaten badly multiple times. Have also seen Long in too
