Clearly from a back injury, or COVID
-
Not a huge Tua fan. I hate the Dolphins more than the Pats. But I hate seeing any young athlete hurt like this. He should not have been allowed back into the game last week, and should have been evaluated this week. The 'Dr.' allowing Tua to return last week should lose his/her license. I honestly wish Tua the best. At the end of the day this is a sport, and entertainment. I don't want to see guys rushed back into service for a sport.

Kirk Cousins enters the chat?

I understand the OP. The national media was overboard on the Bills. I like the team being doubted now. Let Miami have the accolades for now. Injuries included I see 10-7 or 11-6. If we can't have home field wrapped up, let the Bills be the wildcard team your team has to deal with. No one wants that. Be the wildcard nightmare getting healthy at the wrong time for your team. As long as we win enough to get in, and start to get healthy at the right time. This may be the path this year. Embrace it. KC is the only team that scares me.

Who Do The Bills Sign At Cornerback?

That is fine. And I agree. What is the Dane Jackson situation, now? Things have changed a bit. -
Nope, a horror show... No one can find a TE, just like Buffalo inside the 20.

Who Do The Bills Sign At Cornerback?

There has been nothing but silence about Jackson or White. It concerns me since the Defense is lacking in the secondary. Yes, I want more info. What exactly is Dane Jackson's injury? How long is he expected out? Dane Jackson has proven to be a good CB in this defense. He is a capable sub for Levi Wallace. When is Tre White due to return? He is an All Pro, and the secondary is playing scraps. Is it fair to ask when Tre White will suit up again? It has been 9 months, the average for an ACL. -
I would be happy to have you prove me wrong. What do you mean by 'pass rush win rate'? Where do I find that? What does it mean? I know Jerry had 18 actual sacks over 4 seasons a a Bill. 4-5 sacks a season. Those are facts. Hughes and Addison both had problems taking QBs down. Hughes had an issue with the referees that used to be obvious. Again, I like Hughes, but he is not a game changer on this team.

Poor coaching by McDermott is becoming a theme
RocCityRoller replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
People trash @ScottLaw and others like me for his takes, but some are coming around. No sense having a Bugatti engine behind a Ford Focus transmission and chassis. 5 years in and we have scrap heap parts at 3-4 OL positions. Dawkins is the only stud on OL. The lack of any running game should be an obvious sign to having a crap OL. Allen is amazing, but even he can not do it alone. Give the man some damned help. -
Hey New Era, I feel the same about you. You make good posts, personal attacks would be silly. The simple fact is that Jerry was not winning in any way, shape or form over replacement value for the Bills the past couple of years. The DE (Hughes and Addison) got plenty of rushes and hits, but none of them effected any games. I know it hurts to hear that. Please show me any stats, any, that show Jerry was a (+) DE the last 3 or so seasons. He wasn't, not in Buffalo. Addison was the better DE, and no one misses Addison. I'm happy for Hughes in Houston. He is getting a new start there. He is playing well. Jerry Hughes is no longer Super Bowl caliber unless he is DE 4 or worse. The Bills made the right choice going young and with Von Miller.

You have to look at the PS. There are good players on every team's PS. The Giants stole McCloud off of PS. If an injury riddled team is willing to add a PS player to it's game day roster, they can steal them. There have to be a few Nick McCloud's available. I was hoping we kept McCloud. -

what is the situation with Dane Jackson? He and Kaiir Elam will have to man the corners until Tre White is available. What is the situation with White? At some point Tre White needs to get healthy. We are now 9 months into recovery. -
McDermott is a master of keeping the lid on. Love it or hate it. Dorsey was not out there in 95+ heat and 100+ heat index. The game plan did not work. The players were exhausted. That is on Dorsey. He ***** up. Learn from it. The Ravens are waiting.

See, this is a smart idea. In know Miami/ Jacksonville etc have to gave some home games early. Why not schedule the game at 4 pm. The sun will crest and start setting by 4 pm. Showcase the Dolphins/ Jags in divisional games at 4 pm. It would be better for players and fans. I like it. +2 to you.

Let's have a moment of clarity off of a bad loss. Jerry Hughes was a trade steal. A real steal, we won that trade 10/10. I like Jerry Hughes a lot as a fan, but he was never a guy who could elevate a DL on his own. He is an exceptional role player on a good unit. Also real, once Jerry called out the refs (and he had a solid point) he never got a call for holding against since. He could have been decapitated rushing the passer and not gotten a call again. If his head was cut off by a LT like a chicken, and his spasmodic corpse would have hit a QB he would have been hit with a 'roughing the passer' penalty. Decapitated and all. Neither he or Addison could close on the pass rush by 2021. They created hurries etc, but those don't amount to anything against the best QBs in the league. Kyler Murray was 'hurried' on the Hail Murray. Jerry Hughes was never going to get a call in his favor, ever, in a Bills uniform. He and Addison could not close anymore, and the refs were not going to rule in his favor. Now that Jerry is in 'NFL Siberia' he is getting to play again. The Bills should have traded him earlier for more value. We should be looking at Rousseau, who has 3.5 sacks in 3 games. The Bills should have gone the 'Rousseau' path earlier. I am convinced Rousseau and Miller/ Basham make 20+ sacks throughout the season. I think Rousseau gets 10-12 alone. Hughes and Addison could not get 10 between them. I don't hate Jerry, but he ran his course here. His stats the past few years were Chris Kelsay like, no one loves Chris Kelsay. Chis Kelsay 2009-2012 = 46 games, 15.5 sacks, 18 TFL, 28 QB hits, 4 FF, 1 safety Jerry Hughes 2018-2021 = 63 games, 18sacks, 24 TFL, 37 QB hits, 7 FF, 0 safety Kelsay missed 12 games in his last season. If you do a per game breakdown, Jerry Hughes = Chris Kelsay the last 4 years. I'll take my chances with Rousseau. Happy Jerry is getting some much needed love in Houston. He is a solid pro.

Gen X here, you aren't an official man without 2 or 3. One by being a dumb guy, 2 in football by 12th grade. So 3 by the end of High School. Fortunately I am now too dumb to know when I have another.

Hey Dwight, the soft tissue injuries through three weeks around the league this season seem pretty bad. A lot of teams are very banged up, not just our Bills, though we seem to be the poster child of injuries this year. The Chargers and Titans have been very injury prone too. We don't talk about the Titan injuries much, but they were in rough shape by game end with Buffalo. By the end of the Titans game Bills fans were thrilled and pointed out a big win, while Titan fans were noting their large amount of injuries. A week later Dolphin fans are thrilled with a win over Buffalo, while Bills fans point out the injuries. I think the NFLPA felt they got a 'win' for their constituents by reducing training camp and pre-season games/ contact. I'm not sure that was such a victory. The short week to prepare for an extreme heat/humidity situation in Miami did not help. We can look at trainers etc, but they had a short week to prepare. The product on the field yesterday was not a good look for the NFL. I don't say that as a Bills homer. Clearly Buffalo suffered worse from the elements coming from a cooler climate and off of a short week, but plenty of Dolphin players were struggling by game end too. The game got sloppy and attritional. I think this last game is a statistical anomaly, we are seeing bad injuries around the league, but every year there are teams that suffer badly. We saw this last year with the Ravens and Giants too. Anyone who follows statistics and large data sets is aware of the mean (average) and regression to the mean. In short, over enough data inputs for a relatively closed system, the results will almost always trend back to the average. Buffalo has been very lucky with injuries the past few years. The Bills are 'catching up' to the average injuries, but are doing it all at once, and in two or three units (DB/ OL/ WR).

Time for Beane to "break glass in case of emergency"?
RocCityRoller replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's about having competent blockers in front of your multi-year quarter billion dollar franchise star. Right now we have a Bugatti W16 engine behind a Ford Focus offensive line. It is not sustainable. The Bills have not invested properly in the OL, nor have they figured out an effective run game in 5 years. That is a problem. Even the Packers have realized they need a complimentary run game to get the most out of Rodgers. That is how they won in week 1. As amazing as the W16 is, you cant run it at maximum RPMs all the time, or pair it to a crap transmission. Allen throwing 50-60 times a game behind a leaky OL and no run game is a recipe for disaster. Why is this such a difficult concept to understand? -
Emergency glass meet hammer Unit 4077 - OGs will get it

Was the Hail Murray on Josh? Was 0:13 seconds on Josh? In both games Allen had the Bills with the lead when he walked off the field for the last time.

I feel like the 'All in' move was getting Von Miller, with the added benefit of 'adding a Pro Bowl level CB' at some point in the season in Tre White. -
Count me in in the take a Safety on purpose crowd. The score was 21-17. Nothing good was going to happen (for Miami) punting from the 1 yard line. There is a reason most coaches will do three runs into a cloud of dust for even 5 yards when pinned within the 5 yard line. Have seen plenty of well respected coaches just snap the ball out of the endzone there for the Safety. Miami was quite lucky the punt was not recovered for a TD. It was a healthy debate where I was watching with good points on both sides.

Is the Bills approach to injuries too conservative?
RocCityRoller replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
For those arguing Buffalo is being too conservative, Gabe Davis was out there trying to tough it out, and he was not effective. Buffalo has been very fortunate to be relatively healthy the past 3 or so seasons. Per Football Outsiders in 2020 Buffalo only missed 43.1 games due to non COVID related precautions. That was 4th fewest in the league. Even taking in COVID related missed games it was 63.1 which was 9th fewest. We are seeing a regression to the mean. In plain speak the law of averages is catching up with Buffalo, unfortunately all at once. Baltimore who had also been fortunate with injuries went through the injury bug last season. Maybe Buffalo is a bit conservative with injuries. They aren't the only team to do so if true. Green Bay is very conservative with injuries in general. It means they want guys to play when they are 100% or close to it. This is the opposite of the Jets who had a mini scandal prior to Saleh and the current staff. The Jets were pushing injured guys to play. The way teams deal with players who are injured has to be a factor in how free agents rate teams they want to sign with. Established teams with a culture of winning find new ways to win and stay competitive. Green Bay won with a running game in week 1, and defense yesterday. Baltimore stayed competitive all season last year and almost made the playoffs. Injuries are piling up all over the league. The Chargers just lost their starting LT (torn biceps) on top of Herbert breaking rib cartilage. This is shaping up to be a season of NFL attrition. Maybe there is too little pre-season, maybe the open style of play is leading to more injuries. Hard to tell. It is going to be a bumpy ride this season. Let's see how Buffalo manages the adversity. It will show strengths or weaknesses in coaching and the front office. Go Bills! -
Yep, I believe it is called regression to the mean. Buffalo has been very lucky with injuries the past 2-3 seasons. Really just J Brown 2 seasons ago and Tre least year. Have to strike when the iron is hot, that is why the past 2 season endings have hurt so much.
