  1. 3 is the tradition. Would Buffalo have made it to 4 SB in a row without QB3 Gale Gilbert? No you say? The Chargers, yes the lowly Chargers, the Bills of the West, made it to the very next SB with Stan freaking Humphires at QB and Gale Gilbert at QB3 after he left Buffalo. Peterman is our Gilbert, or Alex Van Pelt. A guy with the brains to be an NFL QB, but not the physical ability to be an NFL QB. I always wondered what Gilbert, AVP or Edwards could contribute to a QB room if they don't have the skills to be an NFL QB, but have the brains to be an NFL QB, and aren't asked to be the starter. Poor AVP had to be the starter... At best Allen is Kelly, AJ is Frank Reich, and Peterman is Glibert. At best. But yes you carry 3 QB.
  2. hi all, I now have 4 tickets to practice tomorrow at New Era Field. I will be at Darien Lake Amusement Park in Darien, NY (between Buffalo and Rochester) tomorrow around 1-2 pm. Visit Darien Lake during the day, ride roller coasters, then see the roller coaster ride at QB at night! I can meet anyone in the park, or at parking if needed as long as it's before 5 pm. I also wanted to note that the Mt Read Tops in Greece NY (a suburb of Rochester) still has some tickets. (585) 663-4400. It's just off I390, take first exit to I390 from I90, then take Vintage Road Exit, head south on Mt Read, then on the right about 1/2 mile after Wegmans. PM me, I got them for Sven, but he seems hooked up now. They are yours for free if you are willing to go to Darien.
  3. I'm in Rochester, and heading to Darien Lake tomorrow. if I could get them at Mount Read I would have helped out. I'm sorry....
  4. I'm happy we have a healthy debate here. I respect your opinions. I know my opinion is pie in the sky. But this is the time to do a move like this. The money works out, the draft picks are there, the need is real, and the player likes Buffalo. Name the last time a superstar NFL player on the ascendancy held out in Buffalo?? Happened to be what we need? Mentioned another player stole his roster spot in Buffalo? I'll wait. The good karma will only last so long. Opposed to your thought, I think McBeane showed big balls in their 1 yr tenure. Cap wise they were strapped for FA this year. Bad contracts, trades, payouts, and cutting players hamstrung this team in FA this off season. People seem to forget the Dareus contract, Watkins, Taylor etc... Look at last season. Matthews went down. The FO knew a WR was needed, and they knew Benjamin was available. Maybe KB wasn't the answer but they made the move to address an issue mid-season to get a starting #1 or #2 in the NFL. That is not a timid FO. Look at the draft. Did McBean go for the safe option in the other Josh? No. They went up for the big armed kid who would like to play here. Will JA be a stud? I'll wait and see. But they went up for who they wanted in the face of the pundits. That is moxy. When Edmunds fell, did they sit on their hands? No, they moved up aggressively and got Edmunds. Not one, but two aggressive moves in the first round, in year one of the McBeane draft marriage. They were bankrupt as far as FA goes and still got Ivory, Davis, Star and Murphy. Maybe only one or two players produce, but not bad for a limited budget. Then with the little cash they had they pivoted and addressed OC and OT with Bodine and Newhouse. Miller was sitting all the while in the garage to help at OG. Who was playing C when the Bengals beat the Ravens and put Buffalo into the playoffs? That would be Bodine. No one seems to remember that Bodine was the C for the team that helped put Buffalo into the playoffs. He also was the C for a very possible day 1 starting QB in McCarron. That is a strategic move. If Groy beats him out, aok, but if that happens Bodine may be the best backup C in the league, not a bad way to pivot with no $$$ and address an unpredictable retirement at OC. The team was aggressive in trades last year during the season, did what they could with almost no cap space bringing in legitimate NFL players, and were very aggressive in the draft. I have to disagree with you in principle. I don't think this FO is gun shy at all. But I still agree it is a long shot. IMO it is worth taking. Hell if it takes bringing Whaley in for one day to snake charm his way into getting Mack, then do it. I think he is still being paid.
  5. old and slow... not too worried. Who stretches the field for New England? I know TB is not a deep ball gambler, but really, facing a team with any speed on defense, who gets chunk plays? I think this led to NE losing the SB last year. I don't see much chunk play ability outside of Gronk and maybe White. Maybe Sony Michael helps as an RB threat, but his knees are a legitimate concern is relied on too heavily. Then again NE plays a platoon at RB.
  6. I agree Dupre was underwhelming in college, but name a good or even great LSU QB? Not exactly an offensive powerhouse. I'm an admitted fanboy of Dupre. I see on the depth chart he has fewer opportunities than others to prove his worth. Even fewer than Proehl. I just have a gut feeling like I did with Hogan and Goodwin than he can be a contributor. I'm not talking a 70-1000-6, but a respectable 45-700-4 type line with Big Ben, Rogers or Rivers. A 'move' receiver who has some height and some speed. I also have a gut feeling he is one of the very few WRs on this team that can and will catch Allen's heat on full display. I think Allen is dialing it back mentally. Allen will need a guy that can and will corral anything. I see a lot of soft pass WRs on this team, who will go out and catch the Allen bullet? Green Bay would probably like to still have him in camp. The Bills did well swooping in and grabbing him when they did. I just like him, I hope he shows out in pre-season games. Maybe he is the next Da'rick Rogers, but I think he needs a decent QB with a live arm and some opportunity. I want to see him and Allen together in the pre-season. I think they compliment each other. I could be totally wrong.
  7. I disagree. Your two most likely starting QBs are on a rookie deal and a friendly late 2 year F/A deal. White, Edmunds, Phillips and Milano (yes I think Edmunds and Phillips will be studs) are also all on rookie contracts. Hyde and Poyer aren't backbreaking deals. Look at how good the secondary did without a pass rush, and a gimpy but effective EJ Gaines. Generating regular pressure on the QB makes all of the above on defense better. Do you want to wait until you have an 80-100 million deal on a QB to try to bring in a Mack? Draft and hope to get lucky? Nope. Dare to dream big. Make the defense a nightmare to face. Take pressure off a new OC and scheme, and 2-3 QBs fighting to be relevant starters. Tell me Shady won't fight to the last to play hard for a team that did him right contractually, kept quiet this off season, and has the Bills within 7 points in any game..... strike now, the iron is hot. Dare to go big.
  8. I'd trade next year's first and the 2nd in 2020, or next years 2nd and 1st in 2020 for a chance to trade for Mack. If the Raiders want Hughes, Murphy or Lawson do it. If you are the Raiders you get a 1st, 2nd, player x to start at DE, potential cap relief and avoid an ugly hold out/ cap situation. You save face and can rebuild the D with the picks. If you are the Bills you get a premier pass rusher before his prime and before he hits F/A, who loves Buffalo, while you are flush with cash. Both teams win. If the Raiders don't bite, keep your cap fluid next year, roll over as much money as possible and give Mack an 'offer he can't refuse'. He is worth every penny. Mack knows and loves Buffalo. No cultural shift that many other super star players experience coming to Buffalo. Heck Mack is here during his hold out. Mack is on the upswing to the prime of his career, unlike Mario who had peaked and was going into decline, or even Reggie White going to Green Bay. This is a once in a 'Blue Moon' opportunity. Also there is absolutely no effort issues with Mack. Would Mack like to play with ascending stars like Edmunds, Hyde and White, for a defensive minded head coach who led Keuchly and Davis? I'm guessing yes. Mack is an ELITE pass rusher, something the Bills woefully need, and could push this defense into amazing places. Buffalo will be top 5-10 in cap space next year, allowing them to back up a dump truck of cash to make him happy long term on an extension with up front money and lessen his cap hit over terms of his contract. Has there ever been a contract where the signing bonus was worth as much or more than the contract? Players want guaranteed money, do it. Shady didn't want to be in Buffalo, but the Bills did him right with a generous package to keep him happy, and he has been terrific. Imagine doing that for an ascending super star who wants to be here? A LB corps of Mack, Edmunds and Milano looks terrific for the next 5 years. All young, all with their prime ahead of them, playing for a HC that loves his LBs. Not to mention Edmunds and Milano are on their rookie contracts.... When Mack's contract expires, Edmunds will only be @25 and in HIS prime. Change gears dump the money on Edmunds, rinse and repeat to draft the best Edge player again within those 5 years. To me it is a non-issue. You make it happen. "I woke up this morning, with a blue moon in my eyes"
  9. Is Nick O'Leary a world beater? No. Is he a good depth player for a 6th round pick? Yes. He is sneaky in route running, below par on straight line blocking and mediocre on 'move' blocking as a TE. His swim move is exellent, and he has shown some very good catching ability on or near the boundaries, which many TEs struggle with. He is solid depth at TE, on a team that has struggled to complete traditional middle of the field passes to anyone (WR/TE/RB) He has made some important catches for this team, and has blown some blocking assignments. I'd like to see Buffalo address the TE position in the next 1-2 years, as it's an important safety valve for young QBs. Clay and O'Leary are no world beaters, but we and the league have seen worse. IMO O'Leary has been a better TE value than Lonnie Johnson who was a 2nd round pick and played with superior QB play and OC planning.
  10. Keep your eyes on the young guys. Phillips, Dupre and Foster have all had some nice plays
  11. I saw that too, seems a bit early for that ruling.... He did have the 1st or 2nd most uncatchable targets last year per PFF. Who exactly did Tyrod make look good in his time here?
  12. Was thinking this would be an ok signing, but feel like we kind of got the same player in Jeremy Kerley , and Kerley is younger and shiftier. I also was banging the drum for Dupre, Reilly and Foster (not to mention McCloud and Proehl) to develop some chemistry with our new QBs, so going on a soap box to sign Lafell would be a bit hypocritical. Who knows what is going on with Zay Jones? If an injury to WR happens during TC, or Zay is going to battle his offseason injuries longer than we think then yeah I could see it. He makes a nice #2-#3 but I really, truly think some of the answers to WR are already on the roster, we just don't know it yet.
  13. The third and 22 in Super Bowl XXV is to me the seminal play. Bruce, Biscuit, Talley and Smith allowed that to happen, not Andre Reed. It was a back breaker for a potential football empire. That play alone sums up the 90's Bills.
  14. Phil Hansen and Aaron Schobel are all time Bills greats. Buffalo has always had good RBs and good DL, you would think that would win you some games. Discounting the obvious greats (Bruce, Williams), and forgotten 1960-80s players, Imagine a D-line of Phil Hansen (DE), Kyle Williams (DT) and Aaron Schobel (DE) in a 3-4. If you add in a Sam Adams, Pat Willliams or Fred Smerlas at DT that 3-4 becomes a brutal 4-3. I'll take that trio or quatro for an all time great team, and they are our 'B' or 'C' squad. (Bruce, Mario Williams, Sestak, McDole etc.) I hope that Phillips, Washington, and Lawson can step up this year to continue the tradition.
  15. I just want 'Poyer the Destroyer's' head on straight for the football season!
  16. I have a Boog Powell Magnet from a Rochester Red Wings giveaway. He is in his minor league Rochester Red Wings uniform. It's in really nice shape. PM me and I'll send it to you. We played lot's of backyard football growing up since my high school team didn't have football until my sophomore year. Anything from 5 on 5 to 15 on 15. It was madness. I was called 'Brew' for Larry Kinnebrew. At 5'9 240 pounds I had nice hands, wasn't fast, but was very hard to tackle. Whatever FB Buffalo had was my nickname du jour. Mueller, Gardner and Brew, but 'Brew' stuck. It apparently was kizmit since I now have a Tom Brady beer belly.
  17. I was at that Sunday night Raider game with my dad (who is from Oakland). That was the game where Nate Odomes mugged Willie Gault on the sideline and raced in for 40+ yards. Everyone thought Gault had a huge play and first down on a drive that could have tied the game late. We were all confused to see Odomes running to the endzone by himself, and the fandemonium in the stands after the ref signaled TD was incredible, like 70,000 plus exhaling at the same time. It's one play i saw live that will always stick with me.
  18. "It's true, there is a good Applebees in Buffalo."
  19. excellent player, a respected divisional rival. I think Stevie Johnson may have he best per game career stats against him. Those were fun match-ups to watch.
  20. so they were about 12 pages weak of this thread and all the 'evidence' and 'charges' some people here came up with.
  21. Who was making this a TT thread? When did I mention TT or even elude to him? My whole post was about Rosen... I'm happy they are moving on from TT and didn't take Rosen for the reasons alluded to in the OP.
  22. If serious, don't be the guy who argues semantics and grammar I was involved in an online political debate the other day and when exhausted of facts and points my opponent stated: "you misused a non-defining relative clause, dummy. try again" Who the Fu#k knows what that is other than some over educated, good for nothing dumb @ss? I had to look up what a 'non-defining relative clause' was. I found it between 'micro-aggression' and 'trigger warning' in the @ss hat dictionary. The proper insult would have been: 'You misused a non-defining relative clause dummy. Try again.' His punctuation was terrible for such an educated lad. Moral of the story: don't be 'that guy'.
  23. Right? It keeps happening. I guess after 159 pages all of the original material is exhausted...
  24. Neither the Bills or Sabres are winning a Championship this year. Both teams are rebuilding. This is an easy bet. No. It sucks, but is the truth. $200 goes a long way on Lundy's Lane.
