Coming from your # 1 WR - does the below sound like the Offense had a good solid plan? STEFON DIGGS: Yeah, I mean, at times, yes. Throughout this year, it was a crazy year, especially for us. I felt like it was a little weird dynamic because the first nine games, we had like a real formula and recipe on how we were winning. And then that last iteration towards the back end, we kind of were just figuring out ways to win, which wasn't bad for us but kind of got us away from what we were consistently doing. So for me, I feel like at times, yeah. And then other times, we kind of got away from it. So we carried that same team in the playoffs, know what I'm saying? So that playing left-handed or figuring out ways to win, it's not necessarily a bad spot, but you're not necessarily back to being who you built to be an identity throughout the season. So we definitely had success, a lot of success. I feel like there was more out there for us because-- especially with that last game and how it ended. We had a lot more football to play, but back to the drawing board, I guess.

Here is my issue with the OL / WR argument. I agree that is an issue and needs to be fixed. However, the job of the coaches is to adjust. Our staff not only fails way to often to adjust to other teams. The offense especially failed to adjust to itself. Good coaching can adjust to the strengths of the team. I dont think this staff knew how to do that. Its a stubbornness or ignorance to make even subtle adjustments. Instead they try to be overly creative with new stuff that rarely worked. Its not complicated - our OL cant block maybe throw in more short quick stuff. Utilize screens to keep the D honest. WR's cant get separation - use more crossing and pick routes. No we stick with up and go's or everyone run deep that not only requires wr to get open on their own but the OL to protect. Instead we use our TE and RB to block more which makes us easier to defend.

I think he needs a year off as a back up like Tribusky. Year in BUF with only snaps in pre-season and blowouts and he can sign a big deal the following year.

May not be the proper forum. But since we are talking coaches. With all the Bills success on both sides of the ball the past several years now do you find it odd we dont lose more coaches? Daboll is the only that has left for a head coach. We have lost very few assistants that receive bump in titles elsewhere. Could it be the NFL does not think highly of the Bills staff and system?

Daboll - Years with Belichick and was at Alabama the year prior.

Bill Musgrave...great. Now I feel much worse. Thanks

I am just saying not knowing much about the guy, but I would not call it a good resume. Usually you try to poach based on some success or working under a coach etc. Why you see the Andy Reid coaching line talk, etc. But hey, he could be amazing for all I know.

Its the hard part with really good but not great results. Much easier to identify that change is needed when the team sucks. My hope is that McD doesn't buy into the we could be doing worse mindset that a lot of people have. With him it can be hard to tell if he has the killer instinct and championship mentality. We have seen he is a good coach but is he willing to do whatever it takes to get to the top is a different story. And I will add the O is not his expertise so this is where he has the least to offer in terms of grooming a OC. You could argue that is why you hire a guy like Daboll that was ready for the job than someone green as Dorsey with not much support. So maybe they need to bring in somebody to help with that.

May be a good coach but not sure Denver is the breeding ground for good WR coaches. They have done nothing in his 5 years there. Jeudy has been a disappointment.

Partially agree. But when do you hear 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, etc before a guy is fired that that people dont like them or they suck? Not very often. Its always they are great, need time, people dont get it, dont see it, blah blah blah. Then woof, they are fired and everyone now says how terrible they were.

Bills need to hit on picks to have a chance
ngbills replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
Obvious answer - Josh Allen. Without him this staff and front office would not have survived. Mahomes goes down and we likely see chiefs still in playoffs with henne. If Allen goes down we are competing for a top 5 pick. Sadly not sure firing them fixes it either unless you have an adequate replacement. The hope is Allen and a little help can get us there. -

Maybe thinks he needs to prove himself without Reid to get a HC job.

If you could do only one thing to improve the team for next season
ngbills replied to Don Otreply's topic in The Stadium Wall
OL and WR. But it is hard to not criticize the O staff. Look what KC and Phi can do with guys like Pacheco, McKinnon, Gainwell. You dont need an all pro RB when you know who to scheme. -
Better play design and scheme can also help protect the QB. When the D knows what you are running or plays take 4+ seconds to develop its hard to protect no matter who is blocking.
-
Draft better and you can afford to let guys walk. The problem has been the drafting and player development. I will also add in smart in season moves. The Chiefs won the game because of guys like - Toney (trade deadline move the Bills could have made, Pacheco (rookie, 7th rounder), Skyy Moore (rookie, 2nd rounder), JuJu (FA sub $4m contract), and 6 rookies playing some significant snaps on defense (McDuffie, Watson, Williams, Karlaftis, Chenal, Cook).

Khalil Shakir / answer for WR 2 / Makes Sports Illustrated
ngbills replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
I tend to not buy the "he would have done zyz if only he had the chance". There is usually a reason and its not like he was sitting behind a ton of guys. We were so light at WR that we signed Brown and Beasley. Its more likely he is not good enough yet and may never be more than a jag. Could have a decent game here or there or could not be dressing for games. Very unlikely he is a #2 on a playoff team. -
We would likely have drafted Sam Darnold...

Would you resign Edmunds or a tackle?
ngbills replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Edmunds will always be at least a above average starting caliber LB. In the right system does reach star status? Maybe, but he at least has a very high floor which will make somebody pay. Free agent LB this year: Deion Jones Lavante David Devin Bush Anthony Walker Jr Rashaan Evans Alex Anzelone Kyle Van Noy Denzel Perryman TJ Edwards Kwon Alexander Dylan Cole Germaine Pratt Kyzier White Lots of replacements and that is just the start of the list. -
Free Agents; Bolder are positions a starter needs to be replaced. QB: Keenum - Need to replace with back up. RB: Singletary, Jones - Need starter. Cook can replace or look to upgrade in draft FA. WR: Crowder, Beas, Brown, Kumerow - Need starter and depth. Not on roster, sorry McK, Shakir. TE: Sweeney - Could upgrade TE2/3. OL: Murray, Quessenberry, Saffold, Hart, Ike B, Van Roten - Need starters and depth. Not on roster. A lot of work needed. DL: Phillips, Lawson - Need depth at DE and DT. LB: Edmunds, Dodson, Klein, Mata - Need starter and depth. Not on roster, no Bernard, Spector are not starters. DB: Poyer, Johnson, Marlowe, Jackson, Lewis - Need starter and depth. Not SS starter is not on roster. P: Martin - Need starter. Not on roster.

We are in trouble if we try the same approach at WR. Diggs and Davis, Shakir, McK just wont cut it or we are fighting to just make the playoffs.

Bills now no longer have 2 fifths but one fifth and one sixth
ngbills replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Remember last year when many said it is great to be at a point the draft does not really matter? That did not last long.
