Better team comp - early to mid 2000's Colts?
ngbills replied to bigfootindy's topic in The Stadium Wall
This stops at comparing those Indy OL to ours. Not even close. -
No Joe Bus, Burrow did not surpass Allen based on yesterday
ngbills replied to appoo's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am not ready to say this yet but... Allen is looking like a boom or bust QB. Does he need chaos? Broken plays? Backyard style football? Problem with that is a good scheme and disciplined team will not make as many mistakes. Allen still misses or throws bad passes on some of the simple stuff. The quick screen and the quick hitch etc. He has lapses in taking the check-downs than a traditional QB will take. I still wont trade him for everyone. But after many of the games this year some of these concerns are valid. -
Pretty much. Tough part is our coaching/front office either cannot evaluate talent or cannot adjust scheme to fit talent. They had all the opportunity in the world to bring in the guys they wanted and this is what happened. So many whiffs across the board. Quickest fix is upgrading the OL and WR positions. Even if that means ignoring the D. Come playoffs we are likely in shootouts anyway.

Saffold said guys were "exhausted" this week and "out of gas"

I will add that doesn't mean he needs to go. But his OC and DC better be guys that bring some energy and carry some weight. -

If true even more of indictment of this coaching staff and being soft. Yes they have been through a lot, but the there has been chatter of being soft for a few years. McD does not have the killer instinct or scheme needed to win it all. This is Allen ball or bust. -

Free Agents and Offseason Situation
ngbills replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Especially when your kicker can kick out of the end zone every time if you want. -
Probably a bad day to be doing this but...Who are the building blocks of this team? QB - Allen RB - Cook? Is the feature back? WR - Diggs and nobody. Davis is 100% a bust. Our other guys are time a dozen NFL players. TE - Knox? Paid big money but dont think he will ever be a real difference make. An above average TE. OL - Dawkins has been bad. Who else? Morse is close to retirement. DL - Miller - how many years does he have? When will he even be back. Oliver? He may be gone soon. Greg R may never be more than an avg player. No one else to speak of. LB - Milano. Edmunds may be gone. Nobody else. DB - Hyde is getting old. Poyer is gone. White is looking done. Johnson, Jackson, Elam and crew all look like average players. Kickers - Bass So we essentially have Allen, Milano and Bass as building blocks. Miller and Diggs are aging key players. Beyond that not much more than some above average, many average and some below average. The last few drafts have yielded no building blocks to speak of on rookie deals.

I think that is what is leading to a lot of the changes are needed posts. The team did not seem ready to play. It felt like they were not prepared for the game and that is on the coaches. It did feel like a preseason game. That was a game to bring out all the stops. Fake on a punt or field goal. Dial up some things that were not on tape. We ran our vanilla bend but dont break defense, throw in blitzing the house leaving a wr to make easy slant route catches. Our OL could not protect vs 3 man rushes? Our routes did not adjust to the Bengal's d or the weather. Heck, it seemed like we did not even prepare enough to wear cleats that work in the snow. Surprised the score was as close as it was.

Elephant is restructures and contracts you can get out of. Every other team does it so can we.

Yes and no. We are starting to look less like the team on the rise and more like the team on the decline. Many key players getting older with no replacements currently on the roster. This offseason will be huge to see what they can upgrade. Its no longer Allen will keep getting better or Gabe Davis, Greg R, Knox, pick a name is on the rise. Name one young player that is on the break out year list? Closest arguments would be guys like Cook and Elam. The last couple years the Bills should have pushed more chips in. This year especially feels like lost opportunities. I am tired of hearing how this team does not do it that way when it comes to not signing guys. Not true. Look at the defense. They just have not been the right moves and on O have gone dumpster diving. Everyone knew they needed help on O at the deadline. They ignore CMC, Hockenson, Toney, any OL and bring in Hines, Brown and Beasley. Not enough. SF, MIN and KC all got better while Bills did nothing. In the offseason there were some no brainers that everyone talked about. Remember Evan Engram? That was a no brainer move and we bring in OJ Howard. We continue to spend $10M+ on special teams guys. This O was doomed by the OL and lack of weapons.

Two or more were big contributors for cin today. Kc has karlaftis, Pacheco, Moore, mcduffie i could go on

People who are quick to criticize ask this question. Remove Allen and what have they done that is impressive? Is there a scheme? Is there winning when your qb is out? Unique capabilities? How often do we our coach other teams?
-
No Allen and they were likely gone a few years ago. Honestly not sure what to do here. Got to take a real hard look though. How much of the success is Allen vs the regime? Put Allen on previous regimes teams and how good are those teams?

How many games did our OL look decent this season?

OL via draft and free agency #2 WR #1/2 TE Replace Poyer DB depth replace Frazier and Dorsey See what resources are left for rb, dl, lb

Franchise in trouble- Josh Allen has regressed
ngbills replied to RoscoeParrish's topic in The Stadium Wall
Josh is a good athlete. He needs good coaching to bring out the best qb in him. Instead he has a college coach coaching playing him like a college qb. -
While other teams have plugged in a ton of rookies

We are dangerously close to being the 6-8 best team in the league. KC and CIN clearly better LAC, Jax are close if not as good Give Mia, ne, NYJ a QB and they are close.
