The 3 Kincaid catches- we have another elite weapon on o
ngbills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I could have made those plays. So yes any TE on the Bills roster could have as well. It is nothing against the guy just that these are normal plays. Just watch any of the 3 guys highlights and you will see plenty of catches that show they are capable of beating a LB for a quick slant. Dawson Knox Quentin Morris Jace Sternberger -

I like they pick. I think he can be a solid player. I am just not one to say wow, look he caught the ball and looked like no human ever on the planet. The dude has played like an NFL player should. He caught a few easy passes and ran until he was tackled. We are not even talking about him jumping over two guys, doing multiple flips and scoring. He literally caught quick slants vs a LB playing off in man coverage. Any TE on the Bills roster would have looked similar or they should be cut. -
Well the Lance pick is all Allen's fault. Everyone fell in love with him because they saw the Josh similarities. I am not sold on Purdy but if he turns out to be a franchise guy I guess its a wash but for a lot cheaper. I dont see it though. In fairness to SF - 2017 Niners and Bills both missed the Mahomes pick. 2018 - 3 QB's taken before they picked. They passed on Rosen which turned out to be right. 2019 - Bosa over Jones is the right call. Was a weak QB class. 2020 - 3 QB's taken before they picked, they weren't drafting Love. Had no shot at Burrow, Tua, Herbert. 2021 - Lance...

It is very important which is why its impressive the success SF has had without it. My point is dont overvalue luck or the one pick. I would be the Bills right now over the niners. But I think the SF front office and coaches are better. I would take them on this Bills roster if that was an option. Its not the question but if JA retired tomorrow how much faith do you have in the Bills going forward? Can this regime get that pick right again?

TRADE: Arizona ships Simmons to Giants for a 7th

Even more this is exactly the type of LB McD seems to be looking for. The LB/DB combo player. -

I would do this trade anyday. See what they guy has. He is a superior athlete and maybe the floor is he becomes a ST/back up that you get for a 7th. -
Josh Allen and starters will play against the Bears

One 8 play, 75 yard drive for a TD. Josh with some quick decisive passes as we march down the field. Then get some rest. -
The 49ers have built an all around better team. You can harp on them for missing on picking Josh, but that is over-rewarding getting one pick right. We are lucky Mayfield and Darnold didnt drop in the draft or the story would be that we passed on Mahomes in 2017 and took one of those guys in 2018...ouch.

Just trying to keep it real. I think Kincaid will be a solid TE. He is never going to be the complete block and catch TE but will be more of Engram TE. But many are talking like he was Lebron James. Reality is he started focusing on football late. He went to University of San Diego (not SD State) because he was not recruited and only played in one game as a Freshman. Sophomore year he played in 4 games. This was at a really small school. He then transferred to Utah which was a big upgrade. As a Junior he played in 5 games and had one catch. Then in his Senior year played 14 games with 36 catches. That was his first legit good year. Based on this he stuck around for a 5th year senior season and exploded which is what got him drafted. The hype is mostly based on this one big season, not years of him being the next Kelce. All this said he has potential to be a good TE. I like the pick. I have wanted a legit TE receiving threat for years. But lets slow down the talk of him being a sure thing, his 3 easy preseason catches show is all world unique game altering skills, etc. -

Yep. When he gets jammed and how he looks vs zone or switching coverages. We have seen him beat LB in man coverage which he can clearly do, but lest see what we have in store when the real deal starts. -

He has looked good so far. But what he has done thus far I would expect from most NFL prospects. Catching passes 1-1 vs a LB is expected, not unique. Hoping and expect to see more as the season progress that shows he is an elite pass catching TE. -
I find it interesting that there is always a thought of "we will just scheme" are way out of a weakness. It reminds me of no free lunch. Yes, you can scheme around weaknesses. But it does not come with out a cost. Either you are doing something and accepting you are now more vulnerable to xyz. Or you are doing something that now limits what you can do. For example, if we are weak over the middle maybe we need our edge to bump the TE rather than go straight for the QB. or you need the edge to take more holding the edge responsibilities. Will our DT need to run more two gap? So now your pass rush has limitations. Its like we saw last year to cover up for OL play we took the TE or RB out of the passing game. Nothing is free. Cant just say we will scheme this thing up and it wont have an impact.

Maybe plan A was Jack Campbell. Didn’t work out and we are where we are.
-
You mean the one that gave up the 4th fewest rushing yards in the league?
-
Wagner, David and others could have been had for ~$5M. We are not talking some amount that would mean not having guys on O. We gave this money to Klein, Dodson, Mata, etc. We gave Floyd $7M. We could have easily found the $5M for an upgrade from Klein and co.
-
And Bengals replaced them with the 2022 1st round draft pick and a free agent that started and played every snap the season before.
-
How about we have two undersized young players, one that is currently injured, that have shown no ability to play in an NFL game. A career back up that likely should not be on an NFL roster. And an UDFA that has been essentially a practice squad talent that is the current starter, yet was playing with 3rd/4th stringers last preseason game. Oh and we just signed some random USFL guy that weighs a buck 25. Does that make you feel better? Good news is Rashaan Evans and Javon Brown are still unsigned, bad news is we likely dont make a move.
-
Slim pickings but I would take a flyer on a Rashaan Evans. Jayon Brown is out there. Nothing to lose Beanester except them being better than our current stable.
-
People always say this but then we wind up with Klein, Brown, Beasley, Marlowe, Lawson and the Carolina retreads. I see more signing guys he knows than leaving every rock unturned. The these issues are not due to surprises or injuries. Any average Bills fans has talked about MLB, WR, OL for several years now. Beane and McD get to run the show and are making the decisions. As fans we get to discuss what they are doing. Unfortunately the reality is the decision made at these positions has hurt the team the past few years and could be worse this year. Hopefully not.
-
Well I guess that is part of the point. He drafted Bernard and Williams to replace Edmunds? Using thirds on both. Did many people really think either was the answer at MLB? With free agent $ he resigned Dodson and Klein. Did anyone think that was the answer? Maybe McD thinks they can just plug anyone in that position or he thinks he/Beane think Bernard or Williams are the answer because he drafted him. I would rather have at least one ILB that can get the job done while those guys develop - Wagner, David, Long, Perryman, Bush, Alexander all signed deals that were manageable but we decided to bring back Dodson, Klein, Matakevich. Heck we spent another $7M on Floyd. We could have done that and still not impacted the money to spend on the O.
