  1. what if I don’t believe it, but I haven’t met such a person? Does that make me seem naive?
  2. Look at each position that was filled that Bienemmy (sp?) was passed over for: Giants- went with judge trying to avoid repeating the offensive guru mistakes they made back to back. Panthers- Rhule was the sexy college guy who everyone wanted. Redskins- minority on minority crime? Cowboys- Probably the best argument here, but Jones was never going to hire a first time HC. McCarthy made a ton of sense there. Browns- another good argument here, but my guess is it came down to style. Plus, they hired a black gm, so does their draft spot go up? Which one of these are clearly less qualified and a worse fit than EB? Someone enlighten me.
  3. Who Biscuit? Whose this dynamite minority coach getting passed over time and again? The KC coordinator who comes from the same spot as Doug Peterson (SB winner) and Matt Nagy (seemingly a flop)? Flip a coin about which one he’ll be. Everyone sucked in Cleveland and his re-hiring was because he had once again shown himself to be a top 5-10 offensive coordinator after the Cleveland gig. I’m not saying he was the right hire, but you can’t say that at the time he was the wrong one. That’s hindsight and revisionist.
  4. I agree. That’s getting glossed over in all this, but it’s a really good decision.
  5. Shurmur got hired because he’s a very well respected OC and some could argue his rep is better than KC’s guy (can’t ever spell his name) because he calls plays and doesn’t work for one of the best offensive minds in history. The real issue here is that hindsight is being used to evaluate things. Show me the clear example of a minority candidate who was objectively more qualified getting passed over for a white candidate.
  6. It sucks to lose out on an opportunity based on your skin color. No matter what color it is. Let’s talk about those who are, and deal with specifics. Cause the Lions are idiots and the NFL values BB castoffs. Why did Todd Bowels get so many years and Pat Shurmur only got two across town? I’m not gonna argue Patricia should still have a job, in fact you can likely find my posts stating the opposite. Are you gonna argue that Wilkes objectively deserved more than 1 year? Here’s A question: why did Josh Rosen get 1 year before being replaced by a black QB while Dwayne Haskins is getting a second year?
  7. I don’t think you’re trying to do this, but that smells slightly of trying to invalidate someone’s opinion based on their race, which is racist. I’m not a minority, but I don’t have to walk a mile in a minorities shoes to have a proper understanding of what is and what isn’t equality. That’s the standard that should be fought for. Equality. Show me inequality (causation, not correlation) and we can work together to find solutions to the issues. Even if I were to submit to the overarching idea that lack of minority NFL people is due to racism (which i don’t), this measure is just additional inequality and racism on the flip side. Okay, so it isn’t about the injustice of racism then, it’s about which race benefits from racism.
  8. So swinging the racist meter the opposite direction is a positive improvement? Also, by the same logic, shouldn’t teams get incentivized for drafting and signing white players and beating back that racial disparity? Give the Panthers an extra first for trotting out the only white starting RB.
  9. Let teams that care to win do what they need to be able to win. The Steelers hired a black guy and have been well rewarded for it. Same with the Ravens, same with the Colts. Meanwhile, the bills hired a black guy to run their team and he was a disaster. The broncos hired a black coach and he was awful. The jets rode with a black coach for about 3 years too long, and now he’s back in the spot he belongs and thriving. Meanwhile, the bills hired a bunch of garbage white guys for 20 years and constantly lost because of it. Winning is the only equalizer in this league. Look at the quality of the football mind, not the color. Deciding who to interview or hire based on race is the very definition of racism. Forcing equality is not equality. I’m fine with equal opportunity, that ain’t what this is. Furthermore, as I’ve debated this before (maybe with you?), you can’t assume causation because of correlation. You can’t say “there’s only x# of black coaches, therefore there’s a racist action against black coaches. That doesn’t work in a vacuum. You have to demonstrate the black (or any other minority, not just black) candidates that are getting passed over exclusively for their race.
  10. Is diversity required to point at an idiotic idea and ridicule it? I think you have an interesting perspective though, I just don’t see stuff like this as helping the overarching problems that are present.
  11. I wonder about him. I think he will as well, but defensive re-treads don’t seem to get as many shots as offensive re-treads.
  12. How stupid. Congratulations Mr. Black candidate, you’ve got the job and it definitely has nothing to do with us getting a bonus because of your melanin.
  13. I wouldn’t doubt it to be true, but why would we listen to someone as erratic as Harrison whose relationship ended very badly?
  14. I would imagine that there are a lot of good, honest people in the world (former military, police, etc) who would take 50k a year to keep guys like this out of stupid situations. If I was an agent I’d have a lot of “bodyguards” in my staff riding with my clients.
  15. What a bunch of idiots. How much could there possibly be in whatever place they were robbing to justify throwing away millions of dollars.
  16. Great point. Also, watching certain players. I watched a good bit of Kyler in the later games last year as they were usually on at 4pm. This year I'll probably watch a lot of the Broncos as I've adopted them as my team #2 this year.
  17. Last year i paid for the year and didn't use it much at all in December (though i did watch other games with it.) this year, I might pay month to month and drop December. I really enjoy using it to watch other teams that I haven't seen much of.
  18. Mcd: "Sammy, what do you think about the offensive playbook?" Watkins: "Man, I don't know Coach... Do you ever think we're just etherial movers on a plain of existence that none of us understand and we're actually all tree roots?" *takes hit* Mcd: *sigh* "son of a B word." Also, cue the "random" drug test in 3, 2, 1...
  19. Good for him for sorta turning his life around, but anyone who questions the Bills getting a second round pick for him, between on field and now knowing this, is an idiot.
  20. Definitely not easy, but doable. The problem is that that play is why Dukes roster spot exists. His ability to fight through contact and make that catch is what gives him value to us. Of course, one play doesn’t define him, and I am certain he’ll get a fair shake to prove his worth going forward, but I personally expect it to be hard for him to crack the roster given the improvements made to the WR room. As of now I expect it to be: Diggs Brown Beasley Davis Hodgins Roberts And if they keep a 7 I think McKenzie has the pole position at this point. Also, I don’t forget the Brown thing. That’s just as heartbreaking. But Brown has way more leash to play with when it comes to mistakes, for someone like Duke, who is a fringe roster player, he’s gotta make the most of the chances he gets- especially on that stage.
  21. Wrong. Duke has a clear shot at the ball well before the Back reaches in. The Pass interference is the arm bar across his thigh as the Ball arrives. Arm bars get called 50% of the time usually based on angle/the refs personal proclivities. Once Duke drops the ball, then tries to catch it again, the DB has the right to reach in and break up the pass (though the arm pull is probably illegal, but on a bobble it's not gonna get called) Did you watch the video? This is the drop, right here: He didn't catch the ball because he dropped it. He then didn't recover the ball at the second attempt because the DB pulls his arm.
  22. It was likely PI, but it was still a drop. I do see you didn't say it wasn't a drop, so I may have incorrectly lumped you in with the other "not a drop" people.
  23. Aside from the confusion with the name mixup, I don't wholly disagree about him showing up. I do disagree that he'll ever be considered a "Starter." As you say, RB starters don't exist past the "First on the field" tokenism. To answer the OP question, I think Bass has a decent shot to take the K job, I think Gilliam (not technically a draft pick) has a chance to get the FB role, and while I'm sure Epenesa will be rotational heavy early on, I can imagine him starting by mid-season ala Oliver last year.
  24. Found it! I had to sift through about 10 Duke threads from around the playoff game to find the right one, but here it is: If you want to preserve your sanity and avoid sifting through 12 pages of ridiculousness, here's the nail in the "it wasn't a drop" argument's coffin. you shall see the truth, and the truth shall set you free... @Don Otreply @Giuseppe Tognarelli @EmotionallyUnstable Now, that doesn't mean Duke can't be a good player, but I doubt he makes the team over the young blood brought in.
  25. Wasn’t there an entire thread on here showing that it was in fact a drop?
