RIP Robert Conrad (Putting Orson Bean here, too)
RochesterRob replied to RochesterRob's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I did back in the day and do today. I do keep in mind that the composition of VMF 214 was seriously reconstructed for the series and Boyington's real flyers were highly regarded Marine aviators. I guess that NBC back then figured that such a series would not get off of the ground without a fair amount of fisticuffs. It should be noted that the portrayals of the television Boyington's superiors were a substantial degree to true especially with Col Lard (Col Smoak in real life). -

Kind of surprising with Conrad as there were few names that were bigger on television from 1960 to 1980. Chalk it up to both Conrad and Bean were a part of grandpa's entertainment and most likely were not woke personalities. Celebs under the age of 50 don't give a darn. ?????????? -

As a kid during the late 1960's/early 1970's he was on the game show To Tell The Truth. He seemed to be on the air along with Kitty Carlisle forever back then. -

Honest question. Would anybody want Hillary as their running mate? I only ask this after seeing heavy traffic in the past few days mentioning that Hillary will run as a VP candidate. -
Died Saturday Feb 8.. I always liked his shows even if they were a little over the top at times. The Wild Wild West. His Baa Baa Black Sheep was just dusted off for H & I starting last night. A guilty pleasure of mine watching BBBS. Battery spokesman who dared you to knock it off of his shoulder. Team captain for NBC on Battle of the Network Stars. A bright spot during my growing up years.

That Hillary pic reminds me of the character Baltar from the original Battlestar Galactica as he sat in his high chair scheming against the Colonial Fleet.

That's only the half of it. He has arranged with the grays (aliens) to submit to life extending treatments. Once that is done then they will transfer his brain into an android. -

The socialists would tell you all the education would come from the state at no cost. What they will mumble through their hat is these doctors will be expected to work at a subsistence salary for many years.

Scharfenberger to close Buffalo's Christ the King Seminary

Anybody is free to convert if you are willing to take the classes. My mother did so a long time ago and I don't recall the subject of payola coming up. Currently, there are two individuals that come who are considered RCI candidates. -

But I wonder how many were not filed because the expectation was there that an annulment would not be granted. I'd ask the parish priest but that might give him the wrong idea in regards to my wife. I just remember while I was growing up a few decades ago that annulments were hard to come by and that many left the Catholic Church because of it. What prompted a general change in attitude by the Church I'm not really sure about. Whether it was an adjustment in philosophy or other considerations (money). -

Lutherans go to the lawyer and then done and done. They don't need their church to sign off on it. That aside my understanding is that even in modern times less than 10 percent of annulments are granted by the Catholic Church. Even Henry VIII could not buy his way out of his marriages with the pope. Henry VIII wanted to stay with the Catholic Church pretty bad so if money would have greased the skids I'm sure Henry VIII would have sent the pope gold, silver, or some other form of wealth. -

I would not say it is all that different except for the very important fact that divorce is recognized by the Lutheran Church. -

Forced attendance was more an issue of the past but even today there are examples such as a kid is required to go with parents to church even if the kid has no desire to do so. I agree that the emphasis is uneven. A lot of the problem with the Catholic Church is that up until recently it had deep pockets at least in the US so at some point it was going to be a magnet for trial lawyers. -
I might have believed that until the composition of Shadow was revealed. Hopefully, it's true that Sanders sent his own workers out to verify results. Hopefully, Sanders does not receive a call wanting to know what it would take for him to accept a screwing in Iowa. Hopefully, Sanders does not consider accepting another vacation home.

I think part of it is the outrage that there is a higher level of trust involved with a priest. However, that is not the way I look at it. I use the same standard whether it be priest, coach, or troop leader. I don't use a lower standard and shrug my shoulders if I find out the basketball coach screwed up and diddled several boys over a few year period. Also, religion has more burden in terms of proving its purity as there is not the captive factor like there is with a school district. We live in a time where if we do not like going to church to be lectured about our lives we simply do not go. There is no such thing as forced attendance in this day and age. No such option exists for school unless you can home educate. Then there is the peer factor such as it is with scouting. If a kid's friends all belong to the scouts then the kid will be after the parents to let the kid join the same organization.
