When I heard a Libertarian candidate speak they seemed so incoherent. The party seemed like a catch hole for ideas rejected by the R's or D's rather than having a core philosophy.

It all goes back to Hillary and the Democrats know it. Bernie should have never been allowed to run in the Democratic Party. Hillary needed a straw man opponent so Sanders was allowed to run in their party. Bernie did not crash the doors in but had the door held open for him. The fact that Hillary has not been outright banished including being told that she is not some sort of party spokesperson is very telling of her power in the Democratic Party as of today.

Lots of money was dumped into farming back during the 1950's-1990's as a tax loss type operation. WNY was no different than any other area in the US in this respect. Then the Feds clamped down on that. No coincidence in my mind that is when a lot of agribusinesses tanked when the tax write off money stopped coming in.

You and Marx failed to reach one utmost conclusion about the nature of man and politics. Man is inevitably corruptible and the more autocratic the political system the lesser the chance is of overriding it into a more benign state.

And for many decades they were pretty much getting a free ride in terms of defense expenditures. If the US had somebody else footing the defense bill we could spend all kinds of money on social programs if we so chose. Not saying that we should but just saying it would be possible.

We all do and the posturing over who is the best example of WNY is needless. If some guy from Cattaraugus County wants to identify as both being a Southern Tier person and WNY'r then more power to him. If some guy from Livonia, NY wants to identify as being a WNY'r and from the Genesee Region then more power to him. Now if some guy from Syracuse wants to identify as a WNY'r then I have a problem as there is nothing there to support that notion. Like I said before my roommate from college had a somewhat narrow view as to being a WNY'r so maybe we need to find him to look down the nose of those who would not be from Chautaugua, Erie, or Niagara Counties who consider themselves WNY'rs such as those from Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, etc. Counties. Again, for me it is all good as long as it is within some kind of accepted reason.

Once in a while an indication of the conditions got by the censors. One time something was written about not being able to keep weight on. Had the two individuals never known each other personally the statement about weight would only be taken as an observation about the person. But having grown up together as sisters the US relative knew it would be very uncharacteristic of the other to comment about her weight without it meaning more.

Voters under 40 are that way because the Cold War and what came before it barely gets a mention in school. When it does get mentioned it is in the context of the failings of capitalism. The worst part is the people that had to live behind the Iron Curtain at its most repressive time are no longer around to give first hand testimony. I recall letters sent to a relative here in NY from her sister in E Germany when I was very young. Three pages of text reduced to an opening, brief mention of the weather, and a closing. Everything else was blackened out to the point of being not readable in the least. The NY relative had lived in the aftermath of WWI in Central Europe and was well acquainted with the concept of not drawing attention to one's self. I wish those letters were still around but I don't know whatever happened to them after the relative passed.

A lot of people have been told that they make enough money and do not get raises. Go out into the various towns of WNY and ask people who work ordinary jobs what they get paid. A lot of them will tell you that they have not received a raise in very long time and I would bet that back 20 years ago they were getting considerably above minimum wage. The only problem is minimum wage is approaching or has approached what they were making back around the year 2000.

Actually, people from Ontario, Yates, Seneca, and Schuyler Counties first identify as being from the Finger Lakes Region. Some people from Stueben County could do the same as part of Keuka Lake runs through that county. The remainder along with people from Allegany and Chemung Counties would first identify as being Southern Tier. My first roommate from college who was from Chautaugua County always considered WNY as any county that physically touched Lake Erie or the Niagara River and nobody else. He would even pick fights over it. Again, for me its all good.
