Where did Your Ancestors Originate?
RochesterRob replied to bilzfancy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Specifically, Italy was being hit by invasions of barbarians as the Western Roman Empire was going into decline. My nephew had a similar test result which does show his mom's (my SIL) DNA clearly but less than 5 percent Italian for his dad. If you are from Wales that is the best chance of being "pure bred." Anything else and a good chance eastern barbarians or Vikings factor in. My paternal grandmother was supposed to have gone back to Germany to collect an inheritance worth considerable money in 1939. Word came back from family over there that the Nazi's had no intentions of letting her leave with that money so she never went. -

A lot of Scots emigrated to Ireland several centuries ago. My maternal grandfather's family is one example. They had been in Ireland for at least a dozen generations before coming to the US and figured any Scot blood was pretty well diluted at that point. They were from Ulster. Maternal grandmother traces back to County Cork. -

You are referring to the Sudetenland where my paternal grandmother came from. The area she specifically came from is a part of Poland now and we wondered if she was not a little bit Polish even if she was not aware of being so. She was a teenager when WWI was lost for Germany and her family became dislocated until she came to the US in the 1920's. She was always tight lipped about the time right after WWI over there which was due to the chaos from different factions vying for power on a local basis. -
Billslime from a family of educators? That's unpossible (Simpson's joke).

Where did Your Ancestors Originate?

There was a Japanese girl at college that I had a romantic interest in but it was never realized. The guy from China had a really interesting story in that he came to Cornell via the PRC. Not sure how all that came to be given it was the 1980's and just talking to him you could tell that he was anything but anxious to go back. To my knowledge he never went back and the FBI was sent to campus to determine his whereabouts after his due date to go back came and went. I knew a couple of Korean gentlemen from a business that I worked for that they patronized. Japanese American girl in my high school whose father was in contract with a Rochester, NY company as an analyst. -

So why does it bother you now if this is old hat so to speak for you? Not a white "thing" as I have had Asian friends while in college that includes people from India, China, and Japan among the countries that make up Asia who were interested in the background of others. Have you asked your Asian friends about their backgrounds? -
Daycare/ child care is important but these parents need a job to go back to. Yes, the government is taking care of them at the moment but the longer some businesses stay closed the less likely they are to reopen. Dairy farming is important and with the shutdown the demand for milk byproducts such as cheese has fallen off greatly. The government for the moment is propping them up but the day is coming where no support is coming. Dairy farming is very important for many communities in WNY. I am happy for the comebacks that have happened to this point but worry a fair number of them will only be temporary.

As said in other recent threads primarily Irish and German. A little English blood married in to my mother's family that flows through my body and lived in CNY since coming to North America. They even have a road named after them as did many early comers to the area and WNY. The wife has a similar mix with a little Polish mixed in. One of her ancestors was an original Massachusetts Bay Colony member/ prominent citizen. One of her Irish Ancestors who came over after the Potato Famine fought on behalf of the Union at Gettysburg. -
Each side is playing for undecided votes which are out there in key battleground states such as PA, MI, and WI. Each hoping to hit that tender spot which will make that voter turn one way or the other. I remember more than a few college instructors who were keyed up on the subject of academic cheating. One who was not afraid to roam around a lecture hall during finals and tear up exams.

Not at all and you know that. A stalker would be someone who follows another person away from a common setting such as this board. I don't do that. You want to stand on the moral high ground of guilt shaming others about their family history relative to benefitting directly or indirectly from slavery. I think for you to try to make that stand you should disclose your family history in terms of when primary factions came to North America and where they lived. Once again I will reiterate that my mother's family came from Ireland after the potato famine and settled in the Northeast. My father's family were Germans who came to the US in the 1880's and settled in the Western US. A direct ancestor came to WNY during the 20th Century and stayed permanently. See how painless that was. Your turn.

Trial for Golden State Killer begins
RochesterRob replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I blame it on the decline of the family unit among other things. Divorces were becoming more common place which put stress on the kids who will grow into unbalanced adults in many situations. This can go on for many years and I suspect in a few suicides that I am personally aware of that a divorce while the kids were young definitely was a factor. Also, on the other side of the equation more people were staying single later into life with one drawback being a lack of a social network to protect individuals from rape and murder. I suspect serial killers such as Jeffrey Dahmer were keenly aware of things such as this. -

I'm surprised that you had a free hand to type while you were in your circle jerk with the other lefties. -
At the very LEAST the mods need to pull down all his posts that have swastikas in them. I know that it will never happen but Billslime needs some time off for reflection.

At least he was able to get his Escalade out of its parking space without hitting other vehicles. Years ago I came out of a Tops to find a crease in the rear right corner of my car and the operator of the vehicle who did it had to know. No note or anything from that person. Until my health dictates otherwise I park away from the entrance of a store or the cart corral area. I also park facing out where I can see if anybody is pulling into that area at 45 MPH without looking for vehicles pulling out.

If Trump loses and refuses to leave

He knows that but his leftist masters want him to stir the pot on sites like this to inflame gullible morons who may not know what you and I know. -

You are the Washington General(s) of PPP. You obviously enjoy getting your head smacked and losing. Seriously, do you believe there is a line on a 1040 form for bribes and graft? I don't care if Soros is paying him 10 cents per post but to me there has to be a better way to make a living. Would it be so bad if Kemp became a squeegee man?
