  1. I don't see the next Manning, Bledsoe, Elway, Kelly, etc. in this year's class which says put those guys down as NFL ready as of today. They may pan out fine or they may bust. I just don't see a guy there to throw a few number one picks at to move up.
  2. I don't think McBeane will burn much more than an additional pick as opposed to a few first round choices to move up to the mid-teens. As a matter of fact I don't think he is going up at all and if I could read his mind I would say anything he grabs will be at the 21 spot on down. Put me down as one of those who believe that 2018 could be a mini rebuild year but then we are set for a while. I'll take a little pain this year if something good can be expected down the road.
  3. So from Washington's standpoint what is the reason to do this now versus seeing if anybody offers better? Cousins is in stasis until March unless he sign's with a Euro league or the XFL
  4. A first round pick on a rookie deal is cheap insurance for a team such as the Giants barring the other needs they may have. But then who said teams have to be logical in regards to the draft. I still think that McBeane will not bite on a trade unless somebody falls to the mid-teens but that just got a tiny bit more likely if this trade is for real.
  5. I don't think it is that simple. Going through the transition tag would mean higher compensation due Washington which the Redskins may not feel is achievable. Also, the bidding process gets moved into the open so Elway loses control. This is the reason I think this is being done now (if this deal can be confirmed). Otherwise, what is the hurry as Washington could pent up demand for Cousins as time moves forward. This is my best estimate short of mind-melding with Elway and Dan Snyder.
  6. The intention would never be to hold Cousins that long but rather see what the Redskins could extort without going through a transition process and in this case it may yield Talib. Elway might be agreeable to that versus letting Cousins hit the open market in March. Maybe the Redskins have heard whispers leading them to this move?
  7. Maybe the Redskins threatened to tag him and gave him the Denver avenue as a way out.
  8. Being Washington's property until March means a trade scenario exists and in this case apparently a player for player deal. As others have said Washington must have given permission for Denver and Cousins to talk to know if the Bronco's can work a deal long term and if not just walk away.
  9. That's what I thought and the purpose being giving the old team a chance to work out a deal if possible with the player.
  10. I thought that since Cousins was under contract last season that in turn means he is not able to negotiate until March. I thought working trades at this point was against the spirit of the rules. Oh well, I might learn something new today.
  11. Skipper!!!!! The city of Denver was named for one of Bob "Gilligan" Denver's ancestors. I think my hunch of Bradford if healthy to the Bills may be more and more likely.
  12. In regards to the Pegula's I don't think that they will be too impulsive as to pulling the plug on the current staff. I think they learned a lot when they watched Marrone go and Ryan come and go. Missing the playoffs this fall will not be a reason to pull the plug. I still think McD and Co get 4 years barring some self imposed disaster. Remember that the Pegula's will be around for a while and have to be aware that any good will in learning the ropes as NFL owners will fade if they replicate the 3 years or less formula we had back in the 00's as far as the next batch of potential hires go. At a minimum they must surely see the waste that comes with players jettisoned after a regime change.
  13. I could see Bradford come here if his physical checks out. This would mean keeping Glenn, draft an interior OL, and draft at least one offensive skill player. This would make many here unhappy but as has been said here in the last day perhaps the expectations this fall should not be ultra high.
  14. I don't think that an elite prospect exists at all at least to this point and don't expect that to change going into the draft. I just see 4 guys who have a lot of potential and will have a lot to prove on the pro level. I don't think any of the 4 are 100 percent pro ready as of today. As Wayne Arnold suggested I think the most realistic move may be up to the mid-teens if a guy that our FO had highly rated falls.
  15. This could very well happen especially once we know what we have with our comp picks. Obviously we can't trade the comps but it would allow flexibility with our other picks. Of course if we make a big signing such as Cousins then that skews what happens with the comps.
  16. It probably will get addressed at some point.
  17. I would say that if anything close to that were done then we are not moving up in the draft which will make quite a few here mad. We would need all those picks plus trade down to gain picks. If it is truly about the process and finding guys who will buy in/fit in through FA will be difficult. If it looks and smells like a full rebuild then it probably makes it less likely that Cousins will want to come here unless he is truly a fan of the process and clean living.
  18. The chart is only a guide for a layperson. The market is much more dynamic the few days before and on the day the draft opens then it is supply and demand at its most basic. I think that you would have to sweeten your proposal at the top 5 and have a provision that if your guy is not there then the deal is off. Further, teams do the unexpected so don't be surprised that if the QB's are as highly prized as you maintain then teams will see the same thing and may think the opportunity is too much to pass up. I don't believe despite how much "Bills wishing" that goes on here that we can believe that Cleveland or the Giants have utterly no interest in a QB. One single pick is darn cheap insurance whether you have Cousins or Manning on the roster. By the way I believe it when I see it in terms of Cousins signing with Cleveland.
  19. I feel the same way about the long term aspect. Were not a lot of guys here wanting a long term deal for a big name QB just lambasting the Bills over Eric Wood just hours ago? And not even for what one of Cousins' annual paychecks look like never mind 90 million guaranteed. Unless Cousins is made out of titanium he has the same chance of a career ending injury as any other NFL player. It would be our luck that Dareus would come crashing down on Cousins giving Cousins the Theismann retirement plan.
  20. Cousins is not some hobo off of the street. He and Elway would no doubt have a sitdown in regards to the coach and what happens if the coach is fired. What Elway's ideas are on a replacement. Sure there is always the chance the two do not come together but for now I would not bet against it. Further, I think that Elway makes room in terms of cap if he wants Cousins. No sitting around and scratching his head over it.
  21. If he goes to the Jets then upgrading out defense is as important as anything else we do. DL and LB early on in the draft. We don't want to go 1-5 against our AFCE foes never mind whoever else we face this fall.
  22. I think Elway will make a serious run at Cousins as I suspect that Elway is more than a little embarrassed about last year. Then the Jets.
  23. Whaht???!!! Our experts figured either Andy Reid would just waive Smith out of desperation or settle for less than one first round pick. I guess I'll pick my own numbers now for Powerball tomorrow night.
  24. Taking stock of the current O-Line situation might tell us to spend at least one draft pick and maybe one more which might help a QB remain upright in the heat of a game. Also, we lacked depth at RB which did not help Taylor and will not help anybody coming for this fall.
  25. I agree with your Jags statement. You don't pass up what your board tells you are superior prospects at other positions for a QB you are not sure about year after year. Quite similar to us around 1987 although it was signing Kelly versus a drafted QB in 86/87. We did the right thing by taking Bruce Smith, Will Wolford, etc. in the years prior when our front office saw them as the superior value versus any QB in the same draft positions. Sometimes the QB gets figured out early in a new regime and sometimes he can be one of the last pieces in place for a serious run.
