What seldom works is starting the foundation with a QB such as Houston did with David Carr. It never works to let the QB get rattled around for a few years because he has no supporting cast. Then he wants out of town when contract time comes or says a few ugly words about the city so he becomes too toxic to retain. And yet quite a few here think that the Bills are moving into the top 4 with maybe 1/2 or 2/3 of what the Eagles paid to move up.

Like others have pointed out this year's class looks a lot like the one in 2006 which consisted of Leinart among others. A bunch of guys that look great on paper but real iffy in terms of reshaping an offense.

The Bills NEED to go all in on getting Saquan Barkley

Dorsey might be able to move up even cheaper than your projection but from his point of view it is correct to secure Barkley and his top rated QB. -
Trade Scenario Depending on the NY Giants

I don't hate you for passing it on. Just criticizing media clowns who claim to know more than the rest of us. -
Trade Scenario Depending on the NY Giants

A belief as opposed to a statement by the Jets organization. The same with the Giants. Talk is cheap when it comes to sports media personalities and their "beliefs." Most of their beliefs are designed to get simple minded folk to click onto articles without a grain of proof as to what is being said. Also, in a lot of instances it is hometown fanboys hoping to steer their preferred team. -
Trade Scenario Depending on the NY Giants

As implied before and I will make it clear somebody could do it as an "investment" and also as a hedge if Cousins or whomever suffered a career ending injury early into a contract. As said before a team under those circumstances will not have a great deal of need at other positions or at least identify other prospects on their board as clearly inferior. -
Does Move Up Plan include Big Free Agents

People do not realize this but there appears to be good prospects down into the third round depending on a team's needs. There have been more than a few drafts where the odds are not even 50-50 on a prospect when it gets to where we are picking at number 21. -

Signing Cousins or Bradford or whomever does not preclude a team from taking a QB in the first especially if they do not have a whole lot of need at other positions. Even if they did not intend to keep the prospect they could earn "interest" by getting the original draft capital back plus in a year where the draft is QB poor and a team figures that they are just a QB away from a deep playoff run. As others have said before do not overlook teams such as Cincy and Miami for making a move on a QB. Doubtful they would move up to the top 5 but less chance of a prospect falling far into the teens. If they did want to move up it would cost them less in terms of number of picks versus a team sitting in the 20's. -

Unless the collective bargaining agreement prohibits it the Bills should be able to do a weighted contract where most of the hit occurs in 2019 and 2020 when our other obligations are minimal. Yes, if we got Cousins it would be a part of a plan to use our picks to build up other positions so no top 10 QB draftee. -
The Bills NEED to go all in on getting Saquan Barkley

I don't see either the Colts or Giants going down further than my scenario. Indy could set a weak defense with Chubb and the Giants can start grooming Eli's replacement. All either wants from Cleveland is a promise to take the player discussed in a trade scenario. I don't think that at least the Giants will put themselves in a position where Denver or the Jets scoop a QB that the Giants were eyeing by going out of the top 4. -

Always a chance you could lose out on Barkley. I think a deal could be had where Indy or the Giants might be willing to drop back a spot so Cleveland could get its RB/QB combo at 1 and 2 or at worst 1 and 3. Cleveland's cost to move up one or two spots would be minimal. -

The Browns are due just like we were around 1987-88. This draft could make them for the next ten years. -

Yes, a team in the top 5 where the cost is one or two picks max. -

Picking in the top 3-5 is about taking the sure thing and not reaching which most board members here beef about just about any other year. -

Cleveland takes him number 1 and no they will not trade out of slot 1. -
You have to wonder the way some carry on about it. I still believe that QB should be near the conclusion of a rebuild or overhaul. I still think that the Bills are in secret leaning towards a weighted contract for Cousins that gets the bulk of the money done in 2019 and 2020.

The 2018 draft is deep in areas that the Bills have needs in. I'm willing to give the current FO the benefit of the doubt in terms of using them wisely. Imagine addressing OL, DL, LB, and RB and see our stats improve appreciably this fall.

Trade Scenario Depending on the NY Giants
RochesterRob replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would not surprise me to see the top 5 teams stay put and decline any trades no matter how beneficial they may be. Barkley and Chubb are the kind of players that would greatly help any of those teams. -
We are not paying a ransom so we are not moving up. Call it a gut feeling but depending on how any grievances play out (Cousins, McCarron) I feel we are going to get Cousins on a rich deal. I'm thinking that the Pegula's are ready to give Cousins a contract weighted very heavy for 2019 and 2020 before anybody else comes due. Incognito and Clay will be gone by then, too.

Agreed. The draft after the first 100 picks gets real sketchy and comp picks don't start normally until the end of the third round or pick 97. If the homework has been done on a FA there should be less risk in going that route than a draft prospect. I love draft picks but comps should be a function of no clear cut beneficial FA's.

This is wishful thinking. Teams such as the Jets and Broncos can get a QB with one pick if they so choose. It's never going to be cheaper in terms of number of picks required to get a highly rated prospect. If any of these QB's started to fall down the board it would tell me more about what the scouts of other teams thought about those QB's than what they thought about prospects from other positions. If these guys are as good as many here seem to think they are the top four will be gone in the first several picks. I still think Cleveland might move up to 2 to secure their QB after they get Barkley with the number 1 overall. -
Rumor: Shady on the Trade Block

I doubt that would get us into the top 10. McCoy is a great back but his odometer is reading around 175,000 miles which says he does not have long to go.
