  1. Neither do I and it is possible at least one of the big names could be dealt in a draft day deal to somebody who got caught napping. Who knows?
  2. They can cut or trade guys. Nobody there can command a no trade clause. If McCown and Bridgewater are there going into camp one gets traded if somebody else has a guy go down during camp. That might be the gamble the Jets are taking.
  3. I think that will turn out to be apples and oranges if Allen should happen. For starters if Allen is brought in to start opening day he would receive a lot more time with the coaches in OTA's and camp than a guy expected to be a backup going into the season.
  4. Could be. I think a scout is normally responsible for 10-12 college players per season. Give or take.
  5. Interesting. I still question scouting other than seeing the game unfold live as the camera may not capture everything a scout wants to see. Contract workers are all over the place in business so why could not Beane approach a guy, perhaps a retired scout who does not want to work a lot, to go to Allen's games and create a report.
  6. I never said that they did not but to say that some other team is going to look at the Bills' war chest and turn tail is naive. We can't say who will blink first in such a contest.
  7. I think that you sort of answered your own question. If Josh Allen is not seen as highly as the other bandied names then it will take less of a trade up to get him or maybe you have to go no further than 12. Though unlikely it would be an effective distraction to hire a scout on a "contract" basis versus using a guy who is salaried by the Bills to check Allen out. Maybe Tyrod let management know after the season that he was not going to go with the status quo and was for sure gone after the contract. In turn the Bills managed to extract some value in a draft pick from a player who had one foot out the door before this current NFL calendar year started.
  8. Their are 12 or so NFL teams that are important to the national sports media and past that they do not care. The Bills are one of those "I don't care about" teams. Bring back Empire Sports Network.
  9. The Jets can't trade both 2nd's, a 3rd and tap into their 2019 picks? Their number 6 pick is worth a heck of a lot more than our current 12. They have cap space to fill holes and their roster is far from a disaster. Saying that some other team will not go to the mat over one of the QB's is just living in denial. Cleveland would be wise to take Barkley at one and with Kizer gone secure their QB with a minimum of expense by trading pick 4 in a package to the Giants or Colts. That is if they see one of the QB's as superior to the others.
  10. The Jets will start cutting 2 or 3 of that 5 fairly soon.
  11. No reason for them not to get a guy. Their situation is not unlike ours with not having a definite franchise player at QB topping the list. Count on competition for the QB's.
  12. I don't know about that as last season it looked like he lost a step. Maybe for the right contract.
  13. Anything can happen and people need to get used to the idea that other teams will make moves based on their own interests. None of those teams are getting a long term solution and if they think that one of the QB's can be a 4,000 + yard, 30 TD + and down the line per season then they are going to make a move to get that guy. The guys that know Beane from the past are working for their own teams and are not obligated to make inferior deals to help Beane out. As a Bills fan I obviously want to work out for us but also understand about tempering any optimism with reality. I hope other Bills fan do the same.
  14. I think that he is saying there would have been a large possibility that there would have been guys here whining (ahead of that draft) that Locker, Gabbert, or Ponder was sure to be the savior of this franchise. Just because a guy gets a compliment from a draft magazine or blog does not mean he is going to transition into a several year All-Pro.
  15. It's one thing to need a franchise QB and it is completely another thing to know that one exists in this draft by the measures the pro's use. Beane will know how to approach draft day and he does not need to run everything by the board here like we are Terry Pegula. If Beane just sees the top prospects as just that versus being complete NFL ready QB's then we have to trust his judgement. In the end that will not matter as we all know there is anything but a consensus on any player so the whining will be there whether Beane moves up to get Darnold, Rosen, or waits for one QB to fall to 7,8 or where we currently sit at 12.
  16. I think that at this point Beane sits at 12 and watches things unfold hoping his guy does fall to 12. If the wind starts blowing in a way that makes waiting at 12 too big a risk then he will jump up to get his guy. I still think that he works with the mindset to conserve picks when possible.
  17. Yes, I would hate for facts to get in the way of someone's daydream. I'll wait until he actually puts his signature on that contract as likely as it may seem. People forget JIm Kelly being at OBD when the call was put through from the USFL. Today Cousins just has to answer his cell. Maybe Minny better get some CIA style signal jamming equipment going.
  18. At this point it is not practical to trade into the top 5 unless it is straight to one to avoid missing the guy you are targeting. Further, Beane is not in the know as to the intentions of the teams in those spots. If I were the Giants or Colts I would not worry about making a deal today but would wait to see what the best offer was out there like an auction setting. The auction does not heat up until draft day so fans need to get used to that idea. Who knows maybe the player that Beane is targeting may start to fall in the next few weeks. No sense of giving more than what is needed to get your guy.
  19. It still takes a threat from the opposite side so somebody such as Hughes can go in clean and that has not been the case for the last year or so. Bruce Smith did not hit his stride until we picked up Bennett to put on the other side.
  20. I'm not fond of giving up a lot of picks in a move up but am glad somebody else thinks that it is wise to hang on to number 22. We could get somebody who might have a major impact this year.
  21. I'm rooting for the Browns when it does not impact the Bills negatively.
  22. That's the problem with Suh. Detroit could not get the best out of him consistently nor get his game to grow. I'm afraid the next team that gets him will just wind up funding Suh's "last stop" retirement plan unless he can drum up another sucker 2 or 3 years down the road.
  23. It would a move to get salary off of the books primarily. If we find a gem in the 4th or 5th it is a bonus.
  24. But they "gotta, gotta, gotta" help out the Bills according to some here. These people will stomp in a corner and hold their breath until they pass out if somebody does not let the Bills cut into the Top 4.
  25. Sheesh. I did not say screw them over. I just was trying to say that there will be no best o' buddy discounts that are not in the interest of the team granting the favor.
