Why Do the Bills Need a New Stadium ??
RochesterRob replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of the new stadiums are not expected to be around in several decades in the future especially DC's. They will be doing the new stadium process if they are lucky after the debt on the current place is paid off. PSL's are bearable for the well to do if the team wins on a regular basis. The problem is in any given season a certain percentage of teams will have losing seasons. As long as their is integrity in the game a team has a much of a chance to win or lose in a decades old facility as the Cowboys who play in Jerry World or the Rams in LA. The unthinkable happened back in the 1980's with the Yankee's in terms or racking up numerous back to back poor seasons and the odds most likely favor at some point successful to today teams undergoing a prolonged slump. -
Why Do the Bills Need a New Stadium ??

I get the idea of a new stadium perhaps tapping upscale customers who normally would eschew going to OP but beyond that I don't see the reasoning cited. 1- If a new stadium is built in the city it would be built to the south end. Not really escaping the snow belt. 2- Fan foul ups have had the potential to happen already and crafty lawyers will find a way even if the location has changed. The bar business has changed greatly in the last 10-15 years as old time owners gave up fighting lawsuits among other things. Drive around WNY and see how many places are permanently closed that used to be a name in the business. 3- I don't know that downtown makes you more flexible along with a change in structure type. The 1980's are gone in terms of big acts touring midsized cities. 4- Buffalo might be starting a revitalization but has a long ways to go. I don't think that we are at the point of "build it and they will come." Buffalo is not a destination for many outside of WNY. -

Why don't we just get rid of George Washington too? If anybody could be around 100 years from now they would be flabbergasted as to what would be taught for American History. I guarantee there will be little said in regards to being a founding father and the emphasis will be on Washington being an extender of slavery. For anybody that went through NYS schools they would remember a wide variety of material including but not limited to European studies. The future for social studies will be grade 9 European Studies with the rise of Marxism/ Communism. Grade 10 will be Great Society (1960's) Studies. Grade 11 will be the Clinton's with old texts thrown out in favor of Chelsea's "contributions." Grade 12 will be optional in terms of social studies but an AP Obama course will be offered for all high schools in New York and will be weighted for honors consideration such as valedictorian, etc.. -
I don't think that she is even that deep. She comes across as a paid DNC personality and a Hillary-bot when the election was still going on. She is not very bright and cannot understand that the US can't spend like Canada on social causes because we have to maintain the largest military in the free world. She can begin to lecture others when her home country of Canada starts spending serious dollars on fighter planes and aircraft carriers to name a few items along with maintaining Canadian social programs.

Obviously, not full on straight ahead but enough side curve to know she has one. Seems to me she did not have much of any butt back in the 1980's. Sort of like the high school female band geek whose uniform draped down straight versus following any curves.

Without hesitation. If I remember right she looked like she needed to eat a sandwich or two back in the 1980's and she finally got them as she has a little bit of butt going by the picture.

Clinton Political Dynasty
RochesterRob replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Anybody know how many dollars the Clinton Foundation is sitting on these days? No doubt they had to make a few refunds in Dec 2016 but some of that was gotten with an eye on the future. -
Buffalo (WNY) vs. "Fair Weather" Areas
RochesterRob replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Retail is already being chopped including grocery stores. Last Friday was the first time in 2 months I used the cashier at Tops versus self checkout because she had nobody in line. The casino in the Finger Lakes was supposed to be the ticket out of retail hell for Tom Wilmot as properties such as Marketplace Mall are dying and he is leaning the hard way that there is only so much money going into the region's casino's. -

It's not that simple but I agree taxes are not always the reason. Most of the people I describe live out in the rural towns and also in a lot of cases want elbow room so their WNY home sits on a few acres. Homes on average would be worth considerably less than the 75-100 thousand dollars many bring if it were not for outside money. The average Joe and Betty working retail 30 hours a week each could not afford a 100,000 dollar property and they are the typical residents of many small rural towns. There are not enough 20 year teachers, administrators, and other high end school employees in any given district to bouy home values. Most manufacturing and small businesses have disappeared so there are fewer significantly above minimum wage jobs to make mortgage payments with. -

Depends on what your objectives are. I know of retired people in the region from NYC, Boston, Philly. They are done with the square footage race and are only interested in what they can maintain with a minimum of outside help. While taxes here are tough they were writing larger property tax checks in the nicer burbs of the cities I previously mentioned. They can cash in the 2,500 sq ft two story house sitting on 1.75 acres for north of half or three quarters of a million dollars and still have plenty left after paying capital gains plus buying a decent property here for around 100K dollars. Their goal is to make their liquid assets last versus and are not interested in the Sun Belt. Obviously, they are not bothered by the cold months or figure the utilities are a wash in terms of running the AC or the heating system -
Some feel that titty talk and drinking beer is not far removed from being raped. Not me but I would imagine a considerable number of the me too movement. Just trying to figure out the mental gymnastics they use to move a guy that they considered offensive over to the "at least he serves our purpose" column.

For me late night died when Carson retired. As said previously he as well as Leno were not afraid to make fun of both parties and their members. To me today's crop of late night host seem as though they check their daily e-mail from DNC headquarters to know who needs to be attacked that day. Even today there are good and bad in both parties. Let's not pretend otherwise.

Buffalo (WNY) vs. "Fair Weather" Areas

Winters are not that bad in WNY. I would have to think back to the 1970's to think of a winter that held on like the one of 2017-18. The years I lived in Ithaca during the 1980's the worst driving conditions were going up or down Rte 96 or Rte 13. There was one white knuckle drive from Syracuse back home back in 2007. -
Bills/Oilers playoff game..The other one

I remember the 10-5 loss well. I was at a retirement party in Fairport for a family member and the whole club house (country club) was groaning during the game. -
Bills stadium plans remain unclear

I don't know about that. Cities like Indy and Cleveland I think more absorbed the new stadium cost with some pain versus actually being able to afford it. Last time I was through Indiana I would say the road system had room for improvement. Not I 86 by Salamanca bad but but needing some work here and there. -

I appreciate the breakdown and the enthusiasm but I think the real world is a bit more harsh on all this. The NFL loan will have to be repaid over time so that means the Pegula's themselves or through the team will have to shoulder 400 million which they have made no public gesture saying that they want to do that. In addition they are probably under pressure by other NFL owners to milk the government so as not to undermine any future efforts by the NFL to get government money. The state we can only guess about but I have my doubts about. Erie County and the City of Buffalo I have the greatest doubt about even though they would be in theory coming up with a small chunk of the money. There might be 250K residents in the city but quite a few are probably not breadwinners. Let's say factoring in children and retirees that there only 50K wage earners in Buffalo with a considerable number pulling in minimum wage so that tax per wage earner who pays the property tax means an additional 200 dollars per taxpayer per year. Similar story across Erie County when the contribution is figured by wage earner who pays the property tax bill. It might be more fair to say the city/ county together versus the city alone would contribute 100 million over 10 years but will the two pull together or will one push for the other to shoulder the larger part of the bill? -

130 million is a long ways from a Heinz Field type half billion dollar project never mind something more elaborate. 130 million is not enough to get NYC area politicians up in arms over or that 130 million would have been much harder to come by if not at all. Let's not pretend that legit expenditures in WNY are of great importance to the politicians in Albany. Paulie (Cicero) never had a phone in his house but one day wound up in the slammer. The more elaborate and far reaching the web of corruption the greater the chance of something damning getting caught in it. -

What's that got to do with a stadium? The Buffalo Billion only happened because of everyone connected to it. Terry and Kim Pegula are among the important players for a new stadium that have no such connection. Especially with Pegula now having a construction and steel company that in theory could go a long ways towards building a stadium which is less grift for others to glom onto or as a favorite quote from Casino implies "nothing further down the trough." -

I feel the same way pretty much. Further, be careful of what you wish for because you might not get it the way you want it. Downtown and open air are far from certainties. -

Once again I would say nobody wants to pay for it or we would be past the preplanning stage now. Word is Pegula has been quietly working on his end by acquiring a few businesses that would be associated with such a project but no doubt waiting for the county and the state with neither stepping up and very doubtful that they will. -

We're not hearing much about a new stadium because any of the key players involved don't want to pay for it. When was the last time a Governor with a strong Buffalo connection sat in Albany?
