NFL on CBS broadcasting crews
RochesterRob replied to DBilz2500's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course not every NBC personality was the paragon of perfection. But on average I would say that the NBC guys were better and for me a large part was that they did not look down at the AFC Conference. Many lose their ability over time both then and now. Agree 100 percent CBS is better than FOX. Dick Stockton is another guy who was pretty good when the NFC was on CBS but has lost it for quite a while now. -

Gumbel was pretty good the first few years he was on but he makes a number of mistakes in each game he calls anymore. CBS to this point has never been as good as when NBC had the AFC assignment. Even when we were not good enough to have Enberg or we were not the number 1 match up for the week it was pretty good to have Don Criqui (Buffalo native) or Marv Albert. Even Charlie Jones paired with Todd Christiansen was pretty good for The Comeback Game although Todd had lost a little from a few years prior. Tom Hammond who went on to do the PGA and Notre Dame was good as a D team play by play caller. Now some of the color guys left something to be desired with Reggie Rucker being the first that I remember with his Buffalo "Beels". -
If he is cut then he has to negotiate a new deal with a new team which would probably be less than his original rookie deal. No? Going with us would guarantee his salary. Maybe he had his agent put out feelers and they were all coming back negative.

Why Do the Bills Need a New Stadium ??

It has been opined that the necessary eminent domain, highway modifications, etc. could run in the range of 100M to make Pegulaville ready to accommodate an NFL stadium and the related traffic. That is more than chump change and would make for a nicer modification in OP or if they do like in the Meadowlands and build new next door to NEF its a nice contribution to a new facility. -

Yeah, so far it is running at about 25MPH even though the highway is allowing for 75MPH. I suppose there is only so much you can do that is new. They teased time travel as something they will do this season so we will see how that goes. Sometimes it takes a few episodes for a show to hit its stride. I suspect that in my case it will be hard to recapture the magic given my age when the original ran. I was in my teens then and had a hunger for many of the topics done on the original. It was the only show of its kind then at least to my knowledge and channel selections. Just like anything that happens when you are that young it is just harder to get up for it as a person ages. Sorry for rambling on. -

The intentions of Kraft and Jones are one thing but the actions of the Pegula's can be another. The ultimate fate of the Bills has not been decided. If the NFL gave the Vikings nearly 15 years to come up with a solution then I don't think the Bills are at the gallows quite yet. It would be nice to have this all sorted out by the beginning of the work week which is tomorrow but I think that everybody knows this is going to take at least some time. -
At the very least non-white pot dealers who run things in a bland and non-flamboyant manner are probably more successful. They probably learn just like any other business person not all customers are good customers and worth keeping. A guy lighting up just outside the drug dealer's home is more trouble than he is worth even if he spends heavily.

JMO but going into the future I think the tarp plan that the Raiders and Jags used will come into wider and more complex play. Which means seating will be determined by individual game in terms of the attractiveness of the match up along with factors such as weather. If Pegula saw primary seats sit empty in favor of secondary seats he could limit the amount of secondary seats available for a given game in the following season to put pressure on buyers to buy primary seats. Obviously, he could not get away with playing games on seating during the couple weeks leading up to a given game but would have to determine a plan ahead of the season most likely when seasons go on sale. That way a purchaser has the full plan in front of him when seasons go on sale so he is not angry a cheaper seat became available after he made his purchase. Ideally, this team is headed for prolonged success where selling primary seating is not an issue. Why all the fuss for maybe a few thousand more seats? Even a few million extra dollars per season is enough to keep a Pegula family member in the lifestyle that they are accustomed to. Especially if you can get somebody else such as the state, county, or city to pick up the cost of building that. -

I think that smaller capacity was more important in the strict black out days than it is today and going into the future. Subdividing seating will be the key to getting premium seating sold. Make the money off of the drunks but put them in their own section(s). -

It won't happen at present but for the future it is not inconceivable. Enough dust needs to fall on the legacy of Lombardi, Favre, Rodgers, etc. for the NFL to build up the nerve but they will smell weakness in GB the way a shark picks up blood in the ocean. Without sifting through a bunch a data that will not tell the full story I don't think GB-Milwaukee is anymore affluent than Buffalo, Rochester, and the surrounding region. If it is fair to throw Madison and Wausua into the customer base out there then it is fair to throw in Syracuse and Binghamton here. IMO opinion in NYS the mentality was prior to organized sports every city was its own little kingdom and therefore a rival of sorts to the other cities. Organized sports came much sooner to Wisconsin so the barriers whatever there were came down sooner with the Packers splitting games between GB and Milwaukee being an example. -

I don't know what Boatdrinks has in mind but I doubt suites will be done in a one size fits all manner. Kraft and Jones can dictate to the market but Pegula will need to solicit ideas based on who is out there and what they may be willing to pay. I would not be surprised if there are upwards of 6 choices for boxes in a new facility. -

I was not going to say anything but it is my feeling that higher priced bars bring in wealthier jackasses who are still looking for trouble. Further, the well-to-do 40-60 year olds I know bring kids and grandkids so a drinking venue is not on their places to go list. So a bar district is not the end-all many make it out to be. -

I can't speak for anybody else but there would be a variety of accommodations designed to meet various price points in a new facility. The Pegula's have to be doing a bunch of research to see what is out there versus taking blind shots or build it and they will come approach. Guys like me struggle to buy basic seats so I don't doubt I will be priced out but at least there will be a team with a regional identity I can bond with. I can only hope with the black out rule fading away that it will get worked out to build the facility on the large side to maybe 68 or 70 thousand seats so I could have a chance at a game. As alluded to in my last post I typically don't have a lot to spend on a game so I hope some cheap seats remain in a new stadium. I gave public drunkenness up decades ago at the conclusion of college so all I care about is good food and talking with my in-laws. All right, in warm weather I don't turn my eye away from an attractive scantily clad female. -

Been thinking about 77 and 20A but I should do a test run when I have business over that way to see how it works. The wife has been going less lately so I meet up with the nephew in Rochester or BIL in Batavia and then they drive. Their vehicle their rules. Makes a big difference if going to a private lot versus the stadium lot. -

I am not a big fan of driving apps but unless you know the area and the traffic then you may not have much choice unless you have time to spare. A lot of times I get off I-90 at Pembroke and then pick up 20 going west. Seems to be less of a bottle neck versus getting off at Lockport or going all the way to exit 56. Now my wife hates side roads and would sit an hour plus off of exit 56 waiting to go the last several miles to New Era. -

And this is going to be the rub for the Buffalo natives and out-of-towners. The assumption by the locals is that everybody is going to want to drink for many hours before and after and what is no better than a walk through bar/ club district. The out-of-towners may very well have a different idea of what their visit to a game will be like including easy access to I-90. They may very well want to make a three day weekend that includes destinations such as Letchworth, Niagara Falls, Strong Museum, Finger Lakes and Chautaugua grape countries to name a few. Me thinks the big money of the out-of-town luxury box holder gets the nod in terms of location and design. I think one of the newer definitions of WNY by the gov't has WNY extending all the way down to Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes. 716'rs please bond with your 585, 315, and 607 brothers. -

Different than what the Bills are already doing or open to doing? No, it is not. My point is many people from Buffalo and Erie County do not like the outside influx even though it has kept the team in Buffalo for the last 25 years in reality. This attitude was extremely apparent on the old BBMB. -

That is getting to be close to 20 years ago with a fair amount of the old guard owners around that did not have Bond villain type aspirations. -

The trouble is we do not know what Pegula had to sign when he bought the Bills. We are used to the old days when the NFL was an informal club versus being a cash grabbing monster that it is today. San Antonio, Portland, OR, and now perhaps San Diego would welcome a franchise and no doubt the NFL has higher aspirations with London, Berlin, Mexico City, and the most cost efficient for the league Toronto. -
Other than the most extreme cases I doubt that white people lag behind. White people most likely infrequently have to buy pot from gangster types who get watched heavily by the law. I have people that try to sell me pot even though I don't use it. Not one looks or conducts themselves like a gangster.

If people hate the idea of regionalization now then they are going to outright despise it when they realize what is needed to keep the team here when things get pushy by the NFL. If you can't see past what some people's idea of WNY is which is Erie, Niagara, Chautaugua , and Cattaragus Counties then it really is hopeless as their is not enough big money in those counties to do what the NFL wants done. I know that thought is painful to some but it is the honest reality. -

As much as I think Pegula is hesitant to spend big on a stadium I think that he is giving WNY a chance to breath as far as what has happened with Ralph being gone a few years now. As stated in my previous post on this thread there is quite a parochial attitude as far as those who live in Erie County versus those who live outside. A winning product on the field will do a lot to accept the change that needs to come in terms of increasing revenue. I don't think Erie County will progress to the point needed for the new stadium to be solely about Erie County as some desire when the heat is really on the Pegula's by the NFL. This will probably be in the next 5-8 years with the present day being a grace period in terms of getting NYS politicians to step up with state money. This is why there has been relatively little pondering in public by the NFL in terms of the Bills' future here. To bring the Bills up to NFL standards Pegula is going to have to court money that is far outside of Erie County. As far east as Utica, as far south as Meadville, PA, and well up into Ontario Province. -
People can be quite self-unaware. Most who think that they should be allowed to vote while others are herded off to labor camps are often the ones themselves who would be shipped off by the people who usually wind up in power. Far greater chance that any individual will be viewed as inferior or as a threat than enlightened or capable.

Yes, regionalization has been going on since the SB years and probably would have happened even earlier if the product had been competitive. While Erie County is turning a corner economically it is not at the level it was during the mid-1960's when the Bills were AFL Champs and a fair number of people are in denial about that. It's been a long time since the Bills were a team pretty much supported by Erie County. -

You are raising a very ugly word for many (not including me) which is regionalization. Even if the new stadium is downtown (and that is not guaranteed) it will mean bringing in people from Rochester (and points east of Rochester) as well as Ontario Province. Raising the median ticket price will have the effect of closing out a greater number of Erie County patrons. Studies done on a new location may or may not show downtown is the best place to go. Back on BBMB many swore that their allegiance to the Bills would be sorely tested if a downtown location did not happen.
