Preston Brown "There's some weird stuff going on up there."
RochesterRob replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that we would have kept Glenn if he had proven consistently available health-wise. The Bengals' offer was too good to turn down when facing the reality of Glenn's history. -

Not much you could do about the trajectory post-2017. Preston Brown had limitations, Richie malfunctioned, Wood career ending health issues, and down the list. Anybody being honest with themselves knew in all likelihood that we were taking a step backwards this year. -

Players are no different than the rest of us. For some it is about getting paid and if they believe in an honest days' work for an honest days' wage then we have little to worry about. -

I would imagine that a fair amount of situations are weird and it is easier to put up with when a team is winning. As many former Pats players have said you go to NE to win a ring and not much else. When NE finally settles into the mud I can imagine all kinds of juicy stories about Bill B. Let's not worry about what others have to say especially when they have no emotional bond to WNY. -
Max Kellerman is a total jerk

ESPN has been off my programming selection for a few years now. I suggest that you do the same. You're never going to get most of the ESPN personalities to like us. You are never going to get a majority of fans from other NFL cities to like us. Even Patriots fans understand those concepts and ESPN NFL coverage will shift when their streak of dominance ends and more media personalities dump on them. Viewership of NFL related programming will drop accordingly in NE. -
Not a big college watcher but do check out ND and might look at a couple SU games with them being 3-0. I did look at Bosa Saturday night but that really does not relate to the topic. I was just wondering who might be the top OL prospects for 2019 now that we have a few games in the books? I might make a point of catching a few of their games if I can.

The Chargers have little reason to feel good about that game. If McDermott had been proactive about the defense earlier and the Bills had sustained more drives along with Allen not turning the ball over in Chargers territory with a FG instead it was very possible that the Chargers lose. It does not mean that the Bills were on the verge of greatness but that the Chargers were not the measuring stick some thought that they might be as to the state of the Bills.

Got what I expected from Allen yesterday. A rookie who has a lot of work to do but the work can be done. Had he been allowed to sit for a while he probably would have looked more polished but it is what it is. Some people want Manning, Montana, or Marino out of the gate and that just was not going to happen given Allen's state of development.

Did Vontae Davis retire at halftime? Yes, yes he did!

Start Wyatt Teller Thread .. Who's with me?

I would also guess that he is not showing enough during the week to have him suit up on Sunday. -

Cue The Simpson's character Lionel Hutz climbing out the Simpson's bathroom to be heard driving away complete with screeching tires type exit. -
Bring in Reid Ferguson on obvious passing downs
RochesterRob replied to snafu's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The defense no doubt will make it a match of us having to put in 2 or 3 non linemen to block defensive players which I doubt we can do. If we start putting additional linemen at the LOS that pretty well tips our hand. -

The defense would adjust to the long snapper coming in very easily. Have a couple DB's slant in on both edges. A DL comes out and is replaced by a LB for coverage. I have my fingers crossed that either a TE or WR is ready to emerge for us to pry the defense loose. -
2018 Bills free agents not good
RochesterRob replied to remembersthegoodtime's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be fair we had a lot of holes and not a lot of cap room to plug them with any degree of quality. The end of 2019 will give us a much better idea of how good current management is. Hopefully, a lot of this draft class will stick and they can take the next step with the 2019 draft class allowing us to use our FA dollars on fewer but higher quality FA's. -
Hopefully, this is a sign that maybe they think that the TE's are ready to assume a larger role as well as addressing the deficiency of DT. I know we are not used to productive pass catching TE's here but things change. Croom strikes me as the type of guy as he grows he is capable of operating 15-20 yards down from the LOS.

Been many years since I was at the Moosewood and that was because my date wanted to go there. That aside there used to be other alternative menu restaurants in Ithaca with a better selection than the Moosewood but it has been many years since I have stopped to eat in Ithaca. One girl I went out with had a thing for Manno's diner down on 13 South.

While 30,000 young persons at the lots by the stadium is one measure it is far from the only measure. It's been on the news recently that many high school football programs are seeing less participants currently than what was previous not many years back and not all of it is due to debilitating injury concerns. I am around kids of all ages and I hear less NFL and college football talk among 25 year olds on down than when my oldest nephews and nieces were in their early twenties a decade ago and even that is less than when I was that age a few decades back. There are approximately 3 million people in in the WNY and Central NY areas and most likely there are nearly a million people age 35 or less. 30,000 "young" people are not even 10 percent of the entire group.

Football is far from fine. I know lots of young people who have no interest in the NFL or college football. The impact is not felt because these people are not yet big spenders but when they hit their stride in terms of career their money will be spent elsewhere. Not on game tickets or merchandise such as 400 dollar team coats. The NFL is maintaining due to its older fans. You will see more dorky commercials by the NFL on how grandma is a Bears fan, sonny who moved to Milwaukee for work is a Packers fan, and his daughter who moved to LA for career is a Rams fan. The NFL is saying we don't care if you follow tradition we just want your damn money.

WR Will be Toughest Position to Fix
RochesterRob replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Three or four positions will be fixed via free agency this next offseason and WR will be one of those. I don't like blow out losses but bottoming out this season may be the best thing long term. We are not talented enough currently to go far in the playoffs if we make it that far which I doubt. -
I don't know about the early 1980's teams being complete. They could have used upgrades at WR, DE, and LB to go along with guys like Jerry Butler, etc.
-
The fans would have been in open revolt over not taking a QB early if it did not happen. I don't think that NFL front offices bend to the wishes of the fans to any degree of frequency but I do think that happened in this instance with Allen. I myself would have preferred doing what you said with building the rest of the team for this past offseason and maybe that might have made a difference with someone like McCarron. A guy who can't carry the team on his shoulders but with enough supporting cast can put out a reasonable performance week after week. Yes, your best chance of finding starters in the same year you draft them is in the first two rounds but players can be found that can develop in the lower rounds. At the same time even though we had a number of picks in the first three rounds it is never a 100 percent success rate in terms of all picks hitting. Most likely at least two of those post Glenn trade 6 picks in the first three rounds would have busted so I doubt the job would have been completed with this draft.

The Bills have had a fair number of championship windows but Ralph was too tight with money to finish the building process. The reason that Saban (the second time) and Knox got fed up and left. The mid-1970's teams and the early 1980's teams could have been SB contenders with just a few more pieces added. Ralph never quite got the hang of the salary cap era. I was watching almost everybody but Edmunds yesterday but it has been said he is progressing and for that I am thankful.
