The Menace of Populist Authoritarianism

I just said that the Tea Party is in fact not its own party. Not sure what direction you are trying to go in responding to me. -

For Pete's sake follow the discussion if you can. Not one person said that there should 6 equally represented parties in Congress by law. The 6 parties is purely hypothetical in its existence never mind how it would be in operation. In THEORY with 270 electoral votes required would mean in a situation where there would be more than two parties viable on the Congressional level many voters would have to support a candidate outside of that party presumably a Democrat or Republican on the Presidential level. -

By the way the Tea Party is not its own party but a branch of the Republican Party so your example is not apt. The same with Bernie Bro's or whatever you want to call them. If a handful of third party reps get in and fail because they failed to work with the large blocks then they would be rightly voted out if their prior supporters so chose in the next election. Nobody is calling for any party to have a permanent seat at the table for the sake of doing so. -

You do know that in quite a few instances that a given state's constitution can be amended? And snuffing out the individualism once a rep hits DC is the problem. So if you are true to a certain set of beliefs and the major parties do not reflect them then why bother joining if none of your ideas have any chances of getting discussed on the floor of Congress? Might as well sit at home and send E-mails to publications that reflect your views. -

Who the F said states had to provide political support for small parties to exist? I surely have not said that or implied it. I will say that it will be up to contributors who have money and are fed up with what the D's and R's are doing. Now if a state has a law that says a congressional candidate has to have 25,000 signatures on a petition to be on a ballot then that should be changed. -

Still have not explained how having more parties will cause more gridlock than what we have today. Politicians still have to reach out to other politicians that are not lock-in-step with them on major issues to get things done. Nobody is talking about altering Constitutional provisions in regards to how Congress operates. Why should elections in a given district be re-written by the state? I have never implied or stated that a minor party should be given support by the state in order to survive. As I said at the beginning the support should come from major financial players playing within the campaign donation rules. As it stands today the major donors are firmly in the D or R camp. It's going to take younger money that is willing to wait 20-25 years for a minor party to produce serious political fruit. As it stands today most people do not achieve their wealth before their 50's and expect to be gone sometime in their 70's. This is why most do not support minor parties as they want to see any benefits from their money to happen within their expected lifetime. -

For the sake of maintaining a dialog I would ask you to cite examples. Given the US system of a House Representative having two years in office I don't see how 6 parties creates any more gridlock than the present 2. The Senate exists to keep legislation from coming to be that is flavor of the year in nature. -

The US is crippled now. There is always the possibility that three groups or more in coalition might get something done. When is the last time that the Democrats or Republicans produced a quality Presidential candidate? The system as it is now is broken. The average voter starts to need to see that the politicians in DC do not represent their interests. -

Don't worry about it as the big money in each party today will make sure that any upstarts will never get any traction. By the way I don't think that 6 parties would be a bad thing as more interests both left and right get represented. I'm a Republican but not the Republican Rush Limbaugh supports as he is pretty much for the country club set of the party. I might rethink the idea if organizations such as NAMBLA slip out of the shadows. -

Usually a halfwit will do a half-ass job. No thanks to Cheech and Chong doing any work around the home. -

The best thing for the people is more than two parties although I don't see it happening. Warren Buffett can out spend the hippies on the left side of the aisle and the Koch Bros can outspend the anti-abortion crowd on the right. In a "utopian" political US there would be at least 6 parties with three right of center and three left of center so there can be economic advancement balanced with social justice. -

I think that there will always be a two party system as people are quick to blame for failures. The party in power is thought to have screwed up then the voters turn out for that party's opposition. -

Used to come into a store where my friend worked back about 20 years ago. Kind of a douche back then. -
What Was the Primary Reason the Bills Lost (NYJ)?
RochesterRob replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Special teams by far. The defense was just playing vanilla which made me think that the season is now written off in favor of a better draft pick which is OK with me. Looking more and more like we will pick in the top 10 now. The offense is simply auditioning players to see if any will be contributors next year. I was pretty pissed off at 4:30 yesterday afternoon but I understand that there is a long term objective in this loss. -
A lot of the Arizona's super structure is still laying on Ford Island including one of the tri pod masts.

I don't think that they were playing to win. The Bills' offense was doing things then the Jets made an adjustment to contain Allen. I am not saying that Allen is far along in his growth process but it seems like McD was content to sit on the lead so the offense went into a shell. I always want wins but understand getting the best draft pick which I think the team is trying to do w/o openly saying it. If one could read Beane's mind a person would find he is still pissed at giving up so much to go up and get Allen. Not pissed at Allen but wanted to keep more picks.

One thought on the game, in a particular order

Keep losing games and Greedy Williams will be within reach. -
The refs through a fair amount of roughing penalties to discourage that today.

Week 14: Bills vs. Jets Postgame
RochesterRob replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My take on today is we were giving guys reps to see where their progress is in regards to next year's plans. The offense looked like it had more planning ahead of the game maybe to see how Allen would perform in certain situations. The defense looked very vanilla and I had to wonder if by and large if we were going into tank mode without coming right out and saying it. I always like to win and hopefully we can stick it to NE and Miami to close out the season. -
Glad to hear as I heard a similar assessment in that there was great doubt that the memorial would re-open.

Blacked out in Rochester and had some things to do so I could not head down to a cousin's in Syracuse to watch. Got the half time update via the radio and left the radio on for the 2nd half. Probably could have gone with a couple of guys I knew but money was really tight at that point. -

More bastard sons? After all, the Romans loved their orgies. Also, the world still hummed to a primitive nature regarding procreation then. I suppose as long as the bastard children did not come seeking an inheritance they had a chance to survive.
